cannot switch the ignition on or start the engine
once yo u stop it. Yo u also ca nnot lock the vehicle
from the outside.

normal

- Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver­
tently when the veh icle is stationary and the
engine is running and a gear is selected.
Otherwise t he vehicle w ill start to move im­
med iate ly and could result in a c rash.
- If the power supply fa ils, the released park­
ing bra ke can no longe r engage. In th is
case, pa rk the veh icle on leve l ground and
sec ure it by placing the selector lever in the
P position. See an author ized Audi dealer or
authorized Aud i Service Faci lity for assis ­
tance .

-If the parking b rake is set while the ignition
i s sw itched off, the. indicator light in the
b utton and -(USA models) /. (Cana­
da models) will turn off after a certain
amount of time.
- Occasiona l noises when the parking brake is
set and re leased are normal and are not a
cause for concern.
- When the vehicle is parked, the parking
brake goes thro ugh a self-test cycle at reg u­
l ar intervals. Any no ises assoc iated with this
are normal.
- If there is a power fa ilure, the parking brake
will not set if it is re leased, and it will not
release if it is set¢,&. See an authorized

- Always take the veh icle key with yo u when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies part icularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise chil­
dren could start the engine, release the
parking brake or operate electrical equip­
ment such as power w indows, which in­
creases the risk of an accident.
-
- No one should remain in the veh icle w hen it
is locked, especially ch ild ren. Locked doors
make it more difficult for emergency work­
ers to get into the veh icle, wh ich puts lives
at risk.
Starting from a stop
The start assist function ensures that the park­
ing broke is released automatically upon start­
ing.
Stopping and setting the parking brake

Starting and automat ically r elea sing the
parking brake
.. When you press the acce lerator pedal, the
parking brake is automat ica lly re leased and
your vehicle beg ins to move .
When stopping at a traffic signa l or stopping in
c ity traff ic, the parking brake can be applied . The
vehicle does not have to be held with the brake pedal. The park ing brake elim inates the tendency
to c reep when a se lector lever position is engag-
ed. As soon as yo u press t he accelerator pedal,

-For reasons of safety, cruise control should
not be used in the city, in stop-and-go traf­
fic, on winding roads and when road condi­
t ions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel,
heavy ra in and hydroplaning) -you could
have an acc ident.
- Switch the cruise control off temporar ily
when driving in turning lanes, h ighway exits
o r in construction zones.
(D Tips
-The cruise control system is ideal for
stretches w ith speed limits. The driver is re­
spons ible for adhering to the correct speed.
- The cruise control remains active when
sh ifting gears.
Changing speed

You can also press the accelerator pedal down to
increase your speed, for example i f you want to
pass someone. The speed you saved earlier will
resume as soon as you re lease the accelerator
pedal.
However, if you exceed your saved speed by 5
mph (10 km/h) for longer than 5 minutes, the
cruise control system turns off temporari ly. The
tij ;(i)~i~ (USA models)/ . (Canada models) ind ica­
tor light in the instrument cluster turns off and
the stored speed is retained.
Preselecting the speed

- If the position and the installation angle of
the rearview camera was changed, for ex­ ample, after a collision, do not continue to
use the system for safety reasons. Have it
checked by your authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility .
- Only use the rearview camera to assist you if
it shows a good, clear picture. For example,
the image may be affected by the sun shin­
ing into the lens, dirt on the lens or if there
is a defect.
- Use the rearview camera only if the luggage
compartment lid is completely closed. Make
sure any objects you may have mounted on
the luggage compartment lid do not block
the rearview camera.
- The camera lens enlarges and distorts the
field of vision. The object appears both al­
tered and inaccurate on the screen.
- In certain situations, people or objects in
the display appear closer or farther away:
- For objects that do not touch the ground,
such as the bumper of a parked vehicle, a
trailer hitch or the rear of a truck . Do not
use the help lines in this case.
- If driven from a level surface onto an in­
cline, or a downward slope.
- If driven toward protruding objects.
- If the vehicle is carrying too much load in
the rear .

Even though your vehicle is equipped with an Ad­
vanced Airbag System, make certain that all chil­
dren, especially those 12 years and younger, al­
ways ride in the back seat proper ly restrained for
their age and size. The airbag on the passenger
side makes the front seat a potentially dangerous place for a child to ride. The front seat is not the
safest place for a child in a forward-facing child
safety seat . It can be a very dangerous place for
an infant or a child in a rearward-fac ing seat.
The Advanced Airbag System in your veh icle has
been cert ified to comply with the requirements
of United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard (FMVSS) 208, as well as Canada Motor
Veh icle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 as applica­
b le at the time your vehicle was manufactured.
According to requirements, the front Advanced
Airbag System on the passenger side has been
certified for "suppression" for infants of about
12 month old and younger and for "low risk de­
ployment" for children aged 3 to 6 years o ld (as
defined in the standard) .
The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light in the instru­
ment panel tells you when the front Advanced
Airbag on the passenger side has been turned off by the electronic control unit.
Each time you switch on the ignition, the
PAS­
SENGER AIR BAG OFF
light will come on for a
few seconds and:
- will stay on if the front passenger seat is not
occupied,
-will stay on if there is a small chi ld or child re­
straint on the front passenger seat,
- will go off if the front passenger seat is occu­
pied by an adult as registered by the weight­
sensing mat

The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
when the control unit detects a tota l we ight on
the front passenger seat that requires the front
airbag to be turned off.
If the total weight on the front passenger seat is
more than that of a typical 1 year-old child but

less than the weight of a sma ll adult, the front
airbag on the passenger side can dep loy (the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come
on). If the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does
not come on, the front airbag on the passenger
s ide has not been turned off by the electron ic
control unit and can deploy if the control unit
senses an impact that meets the conditions stor­
ed in its memory.
For example, the airbag may deploy if:
-a small ch ild that is heav ier than a typica l 1
year-old child is on the front passenger seat (regardless of whether the child is in one of the
child safety seats listed
c:> page 134), o r
- a child who has outgrown ch ild restraints is on
the front passenger seat.
If the front passenger airbag is turned off, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on in the
i nstrument cluster and stays on.
The front airbag on the passenger side may
not
deploy (the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does
not illuminate and stay lit) even if a small adult
or teenager, or a passenger who is not sitting up­
right with their back against a non-reclined back­
rest with the ir feet on the vehicle floor in front of
the seat is on the front passenger seat

If the front passenger a irbag deploys, the Feder­
al Standard requires the airbag to meet the "low
risk" deployment criteria to reduce the r isk of in­
jury through interact ion w ith the airbag. "Low
risk" deployment occurs in those crashes that
take place a t lower decelerations as defined in
the e lectronic control unit

Always remember, a child safety seat or infant
carrier installed on the front seat may be struck
and knocked out of position by the rapidly inflat­
i ng passenger's airbag in a frontal collision . The
airbag could greatly reduce the effectiveness of
the child restraint and even seriously injure the
ch ild during inflation.
For this reason, and because the back seat is the
safest place for children -when proper ly restrain­
ed according to their age and size -we strongly

could even be killed if you are up aga inst the
airbag or too close to it when it inflates -
even with an Advanced Airbag

A WARNING
A child in a rearward-facing chi ld safety seat
installed on the front passenger seat wi ll be
ser iously injured and can be killed if the front
airbag inflates - even w ith an Advanced Airbag
System.
- Although the Advanced A irbag System in
your vehicle is designed to turn off the front
airbag when a rearward-facing child re­
straint has been installed on the front pas­
senger seat, nobody can absolutely g uaran­
tee that deployment is impossible in all con­
ceivable s ituations that may happen during
the useful life of your vehicle .
- The inflating a irbag w il l hit the child safety
seat or infant c arrier with great force and

w ill smash the child safety seat and child
aga inst the back rest, center armrest, door,
or roof.
- Always install rearward-facing child re­
straints in the back seat.
- If you must install a rearward facing child
safety seat on the front passenger seat be­
cause of exceptional circumstances and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not
come on and stay on, immediately install
the rea r-facing child safety seat in a rear
seating posi tion and have the ai rbag system
inspected by your au thori zed Au di dealer.
A WARNING
If, in exceptional ci rcums tances, you must in­
stall a forward-facing child res traint on the
front passenger's seat:
- Always make sure the forward-fa cing sea t
has been des igned and certified by its man ­
ufacturer for use on a front seat with a pas­
senger front and side airbag.
- Never put the fo rward -facing child restraint
up against or very nea r the instrument pan ·
el.
-Always move the passenge r seat into its
rearmost position in the seat's fo re and aft
ad justment range, as far away from the a ir­
bag as poss ible, before install ing the for­
ward-facing chi ld restraint. The backrest
m ust be adjusted to an upr ight position.
- Make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
li ght comes on and stays on all t he time
wheneve r the ign it ion is switched on.
Advanced Airbag System components
The fro nt passenge r seat i n your veh icle has a lot
of ve ry important parts of the Advanced A irbag
System i n it. These parts incl ude t he weight­
sens ing mat, senso rs, wir ing, bracke ts, and
more . The f unction o f the system in the front
passenger seat is checked by the electro nic con­
tro l unit when the ignition is on . The control unit
monitors the Advanced Airbag System and turns
the airbag ind icator light on when a malfunction
i n the system components is detected. The func-
tion of the a irbag ind icator light is described in .,_

Airbag syste m
-Never place or attach accessories or other
objects (such as cupholders, telephone
brackets, large, heavy or bulky objects) on
the doors, over or near the area marked "AIRBAG" on the steering wheel, instru­
ment panel, seat backrests or between
those areas and yourself. These objects
could cause injury in a crash, especially
when the airbags inflate.
- Never recline the front passenger's seat to
transport objec ts. Items can also move into
the area of the side airbag or the front a ir­
bag dur ing braking or in a sudden maneu­
ver. Objects near the airbags can become projectiles and cause injury, particularly
when the seat is reclined.
A WARNING
The f ine dust created when airbags deploy can
cause breath ing problems for people w ith a
history of asthma or other breathing condi­
t ions.
- To reduce the risk of breathing problems,
those w ith asthma or other respiratory con­
ditions should get fresh air right away by
gett ing out of the vehicle o r opening w in­
dows or doors.
- If you are in a collision in which airbags de­
ploy, wash your hands and fa ce with mild
soap and water befo re eat ing.
- Be careful not to get the dust into your eyes,
o r into any cu ts or sc ratches.
- If the resid ue should get into yo ur eyes,
flush them with water.
Monitoring the
Advanced Airbag System
!f Airbag monitoring indicator light
Two separate indicators monitor the function of
the Advanced Airbag System: the airbag moni­
toring indicator light and the
PA SSENGER AIR
BAG OFF
light.
The Advanced Airbag System as well as the side airbags and side curtain airbags with eject ion
mit igat ion features ( including the electronic con­
trol unit, sensors and system wiring) are all

monitored continuous ly to make sure that they
are functioning properly whenever the ignition is
on . Each time you turn on the ignit ion, the airbag
monitoring indicator light
m will come on for a
few seconds (se lf diagnostics) .
The system mu st be inspected wh en th e
indicat or light
E,I:
- does not come on when the ignition is switched
on,
- does not go out a few seconds after you have
switched on the ignit ion, or
- comes on while driving.
If an airbag system malfunc tion is detec ted, the
indicator light will first start flashing to catch the
driver's attention and then stay on continuously
to serve as a constant rem inder to have the sys­
tem inspected immediately.
If a malfunction occurs that turns the front air ­
bag on the passenger side off, the
PASSENGER
AIR BAG O FF
light will come on and stay on
whenever the ignition is on.
A WARNING
An airbag system that is not functioning prop­
erly cannot provide supplemental protect ion
in a frontal crash .
- If the airbag ind icator light

comes when the veh icle is being used, have
the system inspected immediately by your
author ized Audi dealer. It is possib le that
the airbag will i nfla te when i t is no t sup­
posed to, or wi ll not inf late when it sho uld.
