Opening the hood
The hood is released from the interior.

A WARNING
Hot engine coolant can burn you.
- To reduce the risk of be ing burned, never
open t he hood if you see or hear steam or
coolant escaping from the eng ine compart­
me nt. Wait unt il no steam or coolant can be
seen o r he ard before caref ully opening the
hood.
Checking and Filling
Closing the engine hood
., Pull the hood down until the press ure from the
s tr uts is red uced .
.,. Le t the hood
drop down and lat ch in p lace . Do
not try to push it shut;
it may fail to engage

A WARNING
A hood that is not completely latched co uld
fly up and block your view while driv ing.
- When you close the engine hood, check it to
make sure the safety catch has prope rly en­
gaged. The hood should be flush with th e
sur rounding veh icle body parts.
- If you notice while driv ing that the hood is
not secured prope rly, stop at once and close
it .
Working in the engine compartment
Be especially careful whenever you work in the
engine compartment.

Whenever you must pe rform any work in the
eng ine compartment , for e xample check ing and
filling diff erent fluids, there is a ris k of injury,
burns and accidents. To prevent personal injury
always ob serv e the following WARNINGS . Th e
engine compartment of any veh icle is a hazard­
ou s area

A WARNING
To he lp avoid injury, before yo u check any ­
t hing under the hoo d:
- Turn off the engi ne .
- Remove the ign ition key.
- Apply the park ing brake .
- Move selector lever of automatic transmis-
sion to "P" (Park).
- Always let the engine cool down. Hot com­
ponents w ill bur n skin on contact.

Battery charging

tery.

Battery charging (Maximum charging rate of
30 amps /14 .8 V olt)
When charging at /ow voltages (e.g. w ith a t ric k­
le charge r),
the battery cables do not have to be
disco nnected f irst . The battery caps should
not
be opened when charging a battery .
It is not necessa ry to remove the battery from
the luggage compartment.
Fa st charging the batt ery (cha rging rate
above 14 .8 Volt s)
For technical reasons do not use a battery charg­
er that uses vo ltage greater than 14.8 Volts to
charge your veh icle's battery .
A WARNING

Charging a battery can be dange rous.
- Always follow the operating instructions
provided by t he battery cha rge r manufactur­
er when charging yo ur battery .
- Never charge a frozen battery. It may ex­
p lode because of gas trapped in the ice. Al­
low a froze n battery to thaw out first .
- Do not reuse batteries which were frozen .
The batte ry hous ing may have c racked and
weakened when the battery froze .
- Charge the battery in a well ve ntilated area .
Keep away from open flame or electrical
spa rk. Do not smoke . Hydrogen gas generat­
ed by the batte ry is explos ive.
- To reduce the danger of exp losion, never
connect or d isconnect charge r cables while
t he charger is ope ra ting.
- F ast charg ing a battery is d ange rous and
should only be at tempted by a competen t
technici an with the prope r equipmen t.
- Ba ttery a cid that may spill duri ng cha rging
should be washe d off w it h a so lution of
warm water and baking soda to neutra lize
the acid.

Replacing fuses
A fuse that has blown will have metal strips that
have burned through .

The fuses are located in the driver's side footwell
beh ind th e storage compartment and in the en­
gin e compartment .
Preparations
.. Switch the ign ition and all electr ical equipment
off.
.. Check the following table to see which fuse be-
longs to the equipment .

.. Open the storage compartment .
.. Press the left and right retainers inward and
fold the compartm ent all the way down

Fuses and bulbs
.. To release the fuse panel cover, slide both slid­
in g reta iners at the left and right forward

.. Remove the fuse panel cover.
Replacing fuses
The clamp is located below the fuses behind the
storage compartm ent (driver's side) .
.. Fold th is compartment all the way down and
remove the clamp from the holder .
.. Remove the colored plastic clip from the fuse
panel, if necessary . You can dispose of the plas­
tic clip .
.. Remove the fuse using the clamp .
.. Replace the blown fuse only with an identical
new one .
.. Insta ll the cover.

A WARNING
Do not repair fuses and never replace a blown
fuse with one that has a higher amp rat ing .
This can cause damage to the electr ical sys­
tem and a fire.

have installed it, have the electrical system
checked as soon as poss ible by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili­
ty .
