§0 Adaptive Light
Applies to: vehicles with Adaptive Light
m;J Audi adaptive light : system fault
If the indicator light turns on and th is message
appears, there is a malfunction in the adaptive
light system . The head lights st ill function .
Go to an authorized dea lership to have the head­
lights or the control unit for the Adaptive Light
repaired .
~D Light /rain sensor
!;I Automatic headlights /automatic wipers:

If the ind icator lig ht t urns on and th is message
appears, the light/ra in sensor is no t funct ioning
correct ly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned on
permanently with the switch in
AUTO . However,
you can continue to turn the lights on and off us­
i n g the light swi tch. You can still con trol a ll func­
tions th at are in dependen t of t he rain senso r
through t he w indshie ld w iper lever.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soo n as
possible to have the prob le m corrected.
I-: Sport differential
1,11 Sport differential : sy stem fault
There is a malfunc tion wi th t he sport differential.
Drive to yo ur authori zed Aud i dea le r i mmediately
to have the malfunct ion corrected.
1,11 Sport differential: overheating
T he t ransm iss ion tempe rature h as increased s ig­
n ificant ly due to the spor ty driv in g manne r. Dr ive
in a less sporty ma nner un til the tem perature re ­
turns to the normal range and the indicator light
sw itches o f.
A WARNING
Contact your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop if the sport differentia l is
faulty or malfunctioning . The repair m ust be

performed by t rained personnel using the cor­
rect oil in order to ensure safety .
¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Wheneve r yo u use the left II or the r ight B
turn s ignal, the indicator light blinks . When you
u se the emergency flashers, both indicator lights
flash.
I f one of the turn sign al light bulb s bu rn o ut, the
turn s ignal will b link twice as fast as no rma l.
Caref ully drive to yo ur authorized Aud i dea le r im ­
med iate ly to have the malfunction corrected. The
i ndicato r light does not indicate a ma lfunction if
a turn signal on the trailer or on the vehicle fails i n trailer towing mode.

Seats and storage

A WARNING
-The ski sack is intended only for the trans­
portation of skis and other light objects . To
reduce the risk of serious personal injury,
never transport heavy or pointed objects in
the ski sack.
- When braking rapidly or during an accident,
the load could be displaced and cause injury
to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protection. Always fasten the belt tight­
ly around the sack and its contents.
- For safety reasons, do not transport more
than two pairs of skis in the ski sack.
- You must secure the ski sack with the strap
after loading.
- Make sure all objects that you are transport­
ing in the pass-through are secured. Other­
wise they could slide around during sudden
braking maneuvers and cause injury.
@ Tips
- Never stow the ski sack away when it is still
wet or damp (for example, snow melting
from skis). Allow it to dry completely before stowing it away.
- Position skis in the ski sack with the pointed
ends facing the front and ski poles with the pointed ends facing the rear.

Description and mounting locations
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof lug­
gage rack.

.. Always read and follow the instructions provid­
ed by the roof rack manufacturer when instal­
ling the roof rack system.
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof,
you must observe the following :
- To enhance the vehicle 's streamlined design,
rain gutters have been molded into the roof .
It
is not possible to use normal roof racks. Only
install a roof rack specifically designed for your
model AB. Contact the nearest Audi dealer for
information on approved modular roof racks for
your vehicle .
- Only use roof racks approved for your vehicle .
These approved roof racks are the basis for a
complete roof rack system. Additional attach­
ments or carrier systems are needed to trans­
port luggage and sports equipment . We recom­
mend using roof racks from the Audi original
accessories program.
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is
only mounted on the designated locations on
the roof ~
fig. 77.
- We rec om mend that you keep the installation
instructions for your roof rack system together
with your Owner's literature in the vehicle.
When should the roof rack be removed?
-Before going through an automatic car wash (it
is best to ask the car wash operator for advice)

Based on the symbols in the display, you can de­
termine if the system is ma inta ining a distance to
the vehicle ahead and what that distance is.
No vehicle -No vehicle ahead was detected.
White vehicle -A vehicle ahead was detected.
Red vehicle -Prompt for the driver to take action

Both arrows on the scale © indicate the distance
to the vehicle ahead. No arrow appears when the
vehicle is on an open road and there is no object
ahead . If an object is detected ahead, the arrow
moves on the scale .
The green zone on the scale shows the stored dis­
tance . For information on chang ing the stored
distance, refer to
c::> page 94. If the distance se-lected is too
close or may soon become too close,
the arrows move into the red zone on the scale .
A WARNING
Improper use of the adaptive cruise control
can cause collisions, other accidents and seri­
ous personal injuries.
- Pressing the
ISETI button when driving at
speeds below 20 mph (30 km/h), will auto­ matically accelerate the ve hicle to 20 mph
(30 km/h), which is the minimum speed
that can be set.
(D Tips
-If you switch the ignit ion or the adaptive
cruise control off, the set speed is erased
from the system memory .
- You cannot switch the Electronic Stabiliza­
tion Control (ESC) to the SPORT mode when
adaptive cruise control is switched on .

Driving settings
Introduction
Aud i drive select makes it possib le to experience
d ifferent types of veh icle sett ings in one veh icle.
The driver ca n select three
Comf ort, Aut o and
Dyn am ic modes in the MMI to switch between a
sporty and a comfortable driving mode.
You can a lso adjust the setting accord ing to your
p references in the
indi vidual mode. For example,
you can combine settings such as a sporty engine tuning with comfortable steering.
A WARNING
Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other accidents and serious
personal injury.
Description
-
The follow ing systems are affected by drive se­
lect:
Engine and t ransm is sion
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
transmission respond quicker or in a more ba l­
anced manner to accelerator pedal movements.
In the sporty dynamic mode, the transmission
shifts at h igher RPMs.
Air suspe nsion
The adaptive air suspension/adaptive air suspen­
sion sport*
(Air suspension in the MMI) is an
electronically controlled air suspens ion and
damping system . They are adjusted depending
on the se lected dr iving mode, the driver's steer­
ing, b raking and acceleration input and the road
surface, vehicle speed and load. A spo rty setting
is gene rally used in veh icles with adaptive air sus­
pens ion sport*.
The vehicle clearance va ries depending on these­
lected mode and the speed .
The highway setting is activated automatically
when yo u drive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for
mo re than 30 seconds in the
au to or dynamic

mode. The ground clea rance is increased auto ­
matically if the speed drops below 44 mph (70
km/h) for more than 120 seconds.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering rat ios. Indirect stee ring that moves
easily, like the steering in com fort mode, is best
suited to long drives on a highway. In contrast,
dynamic mode provides sporty, direct steering .
The following app lies to veh icles with dynamic
steering*: the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum
steering effort for the dr iver at a ll times . This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle con­
trol. At reduced speeds, however, steering is more d irect in order to keep t he steering effort as
min imal as possible whe n the dr iver is maneuve r­
i ng the vehicle. A t low and ave rage speeds, dy­
namic steeri ng addit ionally prov ides more re ­
spons ive steering performance.
Sport differential*
As a component of the all whee l dr ive sys tem
(quattro)
~ page 195, the Sport differe ntia l*
dist ributes t he d riving powe r to the rear axle de ­
pend ing on the s ituation. The distr ib ution of
power va ries depending on the selected mode,
from ba lanced (comfort) to agile (dynamic). The
goal is a high level of agility and ability to accel­
erate on curves. The vehicle is very responsive to
steering.
Cur ve light *
The curve light adapts to driving on curves . The
pivoting action and the lighting are also adapted
to the mode.
Adapt ive cruise control*
The behavio r whe n accelerating ca n be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise contro l also
responds to the driving behavior of the vehicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner . ..,_

Engine sound *
The sou nd of the engine is adapted to the select­
ed mode and ranges from subt le to sporty.
(D Note
- Make sure there is enough cle arance above
and below t he vehicle when parking. The
height of the vehicle can change once it is
parked due to temperature f luctuations,
changes to the load conditions and changes
to the driving modes, which can affect clear­
ance.
- When transporting the vehicle on a car car­
rier, tra in, ship or by other means, only t ie
the vehicle down at the running surface of
the tires, which is the outer circumference.
Securing the vehicle at the axle compo­
nents, suspe ns ion struts or towing eyes is
not permitted be cause the press ure in the
air suspension struts can change dur ing
transport . The vehicle may not be secured
sufficiently if this happens .

activate the trailer operation mode

- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the
auto and
dynamic modes.
- Se lecting the
d ynami c mode resu lts i n spor­
ty shifting characteristics. The S gear posi­
tion engages a utomatically.
- In vehicles that have dynamic steering*, op ­
erating noise is heard when starting or stop­ ping the engine. This does not indicate a
problem.
Audi driv e se lect
- In vehicles w ith sport differential*, the dy­
namic mode is deactivated when towing a
trailer .
Selecting the driving mode
You con choose between Comfort, Auto , Dynamic
and Individual .

You can change the driv ing mode when the vehi­
cle is stationary or while driving . If traff ic per­
mits, afte r changing modes, briefly take your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recently
selected mode is also activated for the engine.

setup and is suited for long drives on h ighways.
auto -provides an overall comfortable yet dy­
nam ic dr iving feel and is suited for every day use.
dynamic -gives the driver a sporty driving fee l
and is suited to a sporty driving style.

Introduction
Your vehicle is equipped with an electron ically
controlled 8-speed automatic transmission.
Upshifting and downshifting occurs automatical­ ly and is controlled electronically. The driving
style continuously influences the select ion of the
driving program.
When a
moderate driving style is used, the
transmission selects the most economical driving
mode.
It will then change up early and delay the
downshifts to give better fuel economy.
The transmission switches to a sporty mode after a kick-down or when the driver uses a
sporty
driving style
characterized by quick accelerator
pedal movements, heavy acceleration, frequent
changes in speed and traveling at the maximum
speed.
If desired, the dr iver can also select the gears
manually (tiptronic mode) ~ page 115.
