ers.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immediately
to have the malfunction corrected.

If the r.:I indicator light turns on, a bulb has
failed. The message indicates the location of the
bulb.
- If the Im indicator light also turns on, then a
fog light has failed. The position of the indica­
tor light corresponds with the location on the
v eh icl e.
- If the II indicator light also turns on, then a
rear fog* light has failed. The position of the in­
dicator light corresponds with the location on
th e vehicle.
This warning can also occur if the light switch is
in an unengaged position between two symbols.
Vehicle lights: System fault!
If the me ssage appears, there is a malfunction in
the headlights or light switch .
Drive to your authori zed Audi dealer immediately
to have the malfunction cor rected.
Instruments and indicator lights
A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode while they are being changed causing
serious personal injury .

voltage section of gas discharge (xenon)
lights* . Failure to do so could result in death
or serious injury.

appears , there is a malfunction in the adaptive
light system. The headlights still function.
Go to an authorized dealership to have the head ­
lights or the control unit for the adaptive light re­
paired.

If the indicator light turns on and this message
appears , the light/rain sensor is not functioning
correctly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned on
permanently with the switch in

ing the light switch . You can still control a ll func­
tions that are independent of the rain sensor
through the w indshield wiper lever.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to have the problem corrected.

Sport differential: Overhe ating
The transmission tempe rature has increased s ig­
n ificant ly due to the sporty driv ing manne r. D rive
i n a less sporty manner until the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indicator light
switches of.
A WARNING
Contact your authorized A udi dealer or quali­
fied workshop if the sport differential is faulty
or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir must be per­
formed by trained personnel us ing the correct
oil in order to ensure safety .
~ Ignition lock
II Ignition lock defective
There is a malfunction in the electronic ignition
lock . Please go to an authorized Audi dea ler or
other qualified workshop to have the malfu nction
repaired .

Q Turn
signals
Wheneve r yo u use the left B or the right Ill
turn s ignal , the ind ic a tor light blinks. When you
u se the emergency flashe rs, both indicator ligh ts
f lash.
If one of the tu rn signa l ligh t bulbs bu rn out, the
turn s ignal will b link t wice as fast as no rmal.
Caref ully drive to yo ur a uth o rized Aud i dea ler im­
mediate ly to have the malfunction corrected.

Checking and Filling
-If you get batt ery acid in your eyes or on
your skin, immediately rinse with cold wa ­
ter for several minutes and get medical at­
tention .
- If you should ingest any battery acid, seek
medical attention immediately.
- Do not expose the battery to an open flame, electric sparks or an open light .
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and nega-
tive cables.
- When working on the battery, be sure not to short-circuit the terminals with tools or oth­
er metal objects. This would cause the bat ­
tery to heat up very quickly, which could lead to damage or explosion and personal
injury.
- When a battery is charged, it produces hy­
drogen gas which is explosive and could
cause personal injury.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the nega tive ground cable .
- Before performing any work on the electri­ cal system, switch off the engine and igni­
tion as well as any electrical equipment. The negative cable on the battery must be dis­
connected. If you are just going to replace a
light bulb, then it is enough to switch off
the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, sw itch off
the anti-theft alarm system! Otherwise you
will set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, first dis­
connect the negative cable and then the
positive cable.
- Before reconnecting the battery, make sure
all electrical consumers are switched off.
Reconnect the positive cable first and then
the negative cable. Never interchange the
cabl es - this could start a fire!
- Never charge a frozen or a thawed-out bat­
tery . It could explode! If a battery has fro­
zen, then it must be replaced. A discharged
battery can freeze over at 32°F (0°C).
- Make sure the vent hose is always attached
to the opening on the side of the battery.

- Never use batteries which are damaged .
There is the danger of an explosion! Always
replace a damaged battery.
A WARNING
California Proposition 65 Warning:
- Battery posts, terminals and related acces­
sories contain lead and lead compounds,
chemicals known to the State of California
to cause cancer and reproductive problems.
Wash hands after handling .
(D Note
- Do not disconnect the vehicle battery when
the ignition is switched on or when the en­
gine is running, otherwise, you will damage
electronic components in the electrical sys­
tem .
-If your vehicle is going to stand for a long
period of time without being driven, protect
the battery from "freezing" , otherwise it
will be damaged and will then have to be re­
placed.
Battery charging
Starting the engine requires a well charged bat­ tery .

Replacing a fuse
A fuse that hast blown will have metal strips
that have burned through .

The fuses are located at the front left and right
of the cockpit and behind the trim on the right
side of the luggage compartment.
• Switch the ignition and all electr ical equipment
off.
• Check the following table to see which fuse be­
longs to the equipment.
• Remove the appropriate cover.
• Remove the colored plastic clip from the fuse
panel, if necessary¢

• Remove the clamp from the rear side of the
cover ¢

• Remove the fuse using the clamp.
• Replace the blown fuse only with an identical
new one.
• Install the cover.

A WARNING
Do not repair fuses and never replace a blown
fuse with one that has a higher amp rating.
This can cause damage to the e lectrica l sys­
tem and a fire.
