Emergency assistance
-Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com
partment

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described below step-by-step and in exactly that
order.
1. Remove the decorative wheel cover*. For
more details see also
c:> page 284, Decora
tive wheel covers
or c:> page 285, Wheels
with wheel bolt caps.
2 . Loosen the wheel bolts c:> page 285 .
3. Locate the proper mounting point for the
jack and align the jack below that point
c:> page 286 .
4. Raise the car with the jack c:> page 286 .
5. Remove the wheel with the flat tire and then
install
the spare c:>page 287.
6. Tighten all wheel bolts lightly.
7 .
Lower the vehicle with the jack.
8. Use the wheel bolt wrench and firmly tighten
all wheel bolts

9. Replace the decorative wheel cover* .

After changing a wheel
A wheel change is not complete without the do
ing the following .
.,. Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack* and
the replaced tir e in the luggage compartment

mediate ly after mounting it .
.,. As soon as possible, have the
tightening tor
ques
on all wheel bolts checked with a torque
wrench. The correct tightening torque is 90 ft
lb
(120 Nm).

- If
you notice that the wheel bolts are cor
roded and difficult to turn while changing a
tire, they shou ld be replaced before you
check the tightening torque .
- Drive at reduced speed until you have the
tightening torques checked.
- After chang ing a wheel, the tire pressure in
all four tires must be checked/corrected and
the tire pressure monitoring indicator m ust
be stored in the MMI

Decorative wheel covers

The decorative wheel covers must be removed
first to access the wheel bolts .

-The wheel bolts should be clean and easy to
turn . C heck for di rt and cor ros ion on t he
mating surfaces o f both the wheel and the
h ub. Remove all dirt from these surfaces be
fo re remo unting the wheel.
Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern pointed in the
right direction.
Using a spare tire with a tread pattern
intended for use in a specific direction
When us ing a spare tire with a tread pattern in
tended for use in a spec ific d irection, p lease note
the following:
- The direct ion o f rotat ion is marked by an a rrow
o n the side of the tire.
- If the spare tire has to be installed in the incor
rect d irection, use the spare tire only tempora
rily s ince the tire w ill not be ab le to achieve its
o ptimum performance charac ter istics wi th re
gar d to a quaplaning, noise and wea r.
- We recommend t hat you pay particular atten
tion to this fac t during wet weathe r and t hat
yo u ad just yo ur speed to match road condi
tio ns.
- Replace the f lat t ire with a new one and have i t
i ns ta lled on yo ur ve hicl e as soon as possibl e to
r esto re th e han dling adv antages of a unidi re c
tio nal ti re.
Notes on wheel changing
Plea se read the info rmation ¢ page 2 60 if you
are go ing to use a spare tire which is different
from the tires on your vehicle.
Af te r yo u change a tir e:
- Check the tire pressure on the spare immedi
ately after installation.
- Have the wheel bolt tightening torque
checked with a torque wrench as soon as pos -

sible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified service station.
- With steel and alloy wheel rims, the wheel
bolts are correctly tightened at a torque of
90 ft lb (120 Nm ).
- If you notice that the wheel bolts are corroded
and difficult to turn while changing a tire,
they should be replaced before you check the
t ightening torque.
- Replace the flat tire with a new one and have
it installed on your vehicle as soon as possi
ble. Remount the wheel cover .
Until then , drive with extra care and at reduced
speeds.

- If you are going to equip yo ur vehicle with
tires or r ims which diffe r from those which
were facto ry insta lled, then be sure to read

The spare tire ¢ fig. 221 is intended for sho rt
term use only . Have the damaged tire checked
and replaced if necessary by an authorized Aud i
dealer or authori zed Audi Service Facility as soon
as possible .
There are some restrictions on the use of the compact spare tire . The compact spare tire has
been designed specif ica lly for your type of vehi
cle . Do not replace it with the spare tire from an
other type of vehicle.

Snow chains
For technical reasons, the use of snow chains on
the compact spare tire is not permitted.
If you have to drive with snow chains and a front
tire fails, mount the spare wheel in p lace of a
rear tire . Install the snow chains on the rear tire
that you removed , and install that in place of the
front t ire that fai led .

-After installing a spare tire, the t ire pres-
sure must be checked as soon as possible .

- If the spa re ti re is mo re t han 6 years old,
use it only in an emergency and with ex
treme ca ution and careful driving.
- The spare tire is intended only fo r tempora
ry a nd short-term use.
It should be replaced
as soon as poss ible with the normal whee l
and tire .
- After moun ting the compact spare tire, the
tire pressure must be checked as soon as possible. The tire press ure of the compact
spare tire must be 61 ps i (420 kPA); other
wise, you risk having an accident .
- Do not drive faster than 50 mph (80 km/h).
