System (O BD II).

Requirement: the ignition must be switched on.
Move the windshield wipe r lever to the corre­
spond ing position:
@ - Front w ipers off
@ -interval mode. To increase/decrease the wip­
er intervals, move the sw itch @ to the left/right .
In vehicles with a light/rain sensor*, the w ipers
turn on when it is raining, when the vehicle is sta­
tionary and the lever is tapped in the ® position ,
or once the vehicle speed exceeds approximately
2 mph (4 km/h). The h igher the sensitivity of the
rain sensor is set (switch @ to the right), the ear­
lier the windshield wipers react to moisture on
the w indshield .
Lights and V ision
@ -slow wiping
@ -fast wiping
@ -single wipe . If you hold the lever in this posi­
t ion longer, the wipers switch from slow wip ing
to fast wiping .
® -clean the windshield . To e liminate water
droplets after switching the windshield wipers
off while dr iv ing, they w ill operate one more time
severa l seconds afte r switching them off if the
temperature is above approx imately 39 °F (4 °C) .
You can switch this funct ion off by moving the
lever to posi tion ® withi n 10 seconds of the af­
terw ipe. The afterwipe function is reactivated the
next time you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-
-The rain sensor is on ly intended to assist the
driver. The driver is still respons ible for
manually switching the wipers on according
to the visibility cond itions .
- The windsh ield may not be treated w ith wa­
ter-repelling w indshield coating agents. Un­
favorable condit ions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, o r when the sun is low, can cause a
strong glare which increases the risk of an
accident. Wiper blade chatter is also possi­
b le.
- Properly functioning windshield wiper

-If there is frost, make sure the windshield
w iper blades are not frozen to the wind­
shield. Switching on the windshie ld w ipers
when the blades are frozen to the wind­
shield can damage the w iper blades.
- Prior to using a car wash, the windshield
w iper system must be switched off (lever in
position @). This prevents unintentional
switching on and damage to the windsh ield
wiper system .

- Do not use the windshield wipers to clear ice
off the windshield. If you switch the wind­
sh ield wipers on when the w indshield is icy,
the w iper blades w ill be damaged .
@ Tips
-The windshield wipers switch off when the
i gnition is turned off . You can activate the
windsh ield wipers after the ign ition is
switched back on by moving the windsh ield
wiper lever to any pos it ion.
- Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades result
i n streak ing. This can affect the ra in sensor
funct ion . Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles in the w indshield
washer system are heated* at low tempera­
tures when the ignition is on .
- When stopp ing tempora rily, such as at a
traffic light, the speed of the windshie ld
wipers automat ically reduces by one leve l.
- In vehicles with an MMI, you can switc h the
rain sensor on or
off in the Dr iver a ssistance
menu.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades

i ng the wipers on .
- To prevent damage to the wiper blades, do
not apply gasoline, petroleum, thinning
agents or other solvents on the wiper
blades or near them.
- To prevent damage to the wiper a rms or
other components, do not try to move the
windsh ield wipers by hand.
@ Tips
- Commercial hot wax such as the types used
by car washes make it mo re difficult to
clean the windshield.
- You can also use the service position, fo r ex­
ample, if you want to p rote ct the windsh ield
from icing by using a cover.
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open.
Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off

Lights and V ision
The digita l compass only works when the ignition
is turned on . The directions are indicated with ab­
brev iat ions:
N (north), NE (northeast), E (east),
SE (southeast), S (south), SW (southwest), W
(west), NW (northwest).
You must recalibrate the compass if it does not
display the correct direct ion

To p revent inaccurate compass readings, do
not br ing any remote controls, electrical devi­
ces or metallic objects near the mirror.
Adjusting the magnetic zone

-ESC/ASR cannot be switched off or sport
mode cannot be switched on if the cruise
control system* or the adaptive cruise con­
trol* is switched on.
- Malfunctions in the Audi magnetic ride may make it impossible to switch the ESC/ASR
off or to switch sport mode on.
Brakes
New brake pads
New brake pads do not achieve their full braking
effect during the first 250 mi (400 km). They must be "broken in" first. However, you can com­
pensate for the slightly reduced braking force by
pressing firmly on the brake pedal. Avoid heavy
braking during the break-in period .
Wear
Brake pad
wear depends largely on the way the
vehicle is driven and on operating conditions .
This is especially true if you are driving frequently
in the city and on curves or with a sporty driving
style .
Operating noise
Noises may occur when braking depending on the
speed, braking force and outside conditions such
as temperature and humidity .
Effect of water and road salt
In certain situations, for example after driving
through water, in heavy rain, after overnight con­ densation or after washing your car, the braking
effect can be reduced by moisture or ice on the
brake rotors and brake pads. The brakes must be
"dried" first with a few careful brake applica­
tions.
At higher speeds and with the windshield wipers
turned on, the brake pads press against the brake
rotors for a short amount of time. This action
which is not felt by the driver happens at regular
intervals and facilitates a better reaction time for
the brakes in wet weather .
The braking effect can also be reduced if you are
driving on salted roads and you do not apply the

brakes for long periods of time. The layer of salt
on the brake rotors and pads must be worn off
first when the brakes are applied.
Corrosion
Leaving the vehicle parked for long periods of
time , low mileage and avoiding heavy braking
can contribute to corrosion on the brake rotors
and dirty brake pads.
If you usually avoid heavy braking or if there is
corrosion present, occasional heavy braking at
high speeds is recommended to clean the brake
rotors and pads¢.&. .
Brake system malfunction
if you notice that the brake pedal travel has sud­
denly gotten larger, then a brake circuit may have
failed. Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the problem corrected. On the way there, drive
with reduced speed and keep in mind that a long
braking distance and increased pressure on the
brake pedal will be necessary.
Low brake fluid level
When the brake fluid level is low, malfunctions in
the brake system may occur. The brake fluid level
is electronically monitored.
Brake booster
The brake booster amplifies the pressure you ap­
ply to the brake pedal.
It only works when the en­
gine is running.
A WARNING
- New brake pads do not achieve their full

Care and cleaning
General information
Regular, prope r care helps to maintain your vehi ­
cle's value.
It can a lso be a requirement when
submitting war ranty claims for cor rosion damage
and pa int defects on the body.
The necessary care prod ucts can be obtained
from an autho rized Audi deale r or authorized
Aud i Service Facility. Read and follow the instruc­
tions for use on the packaging.
A WARNING
- Using clean ing and care products incorrectly
can be dangero us to your hea lth .
- Always store clean ing and care products out
of reach of children to reduce the r isk of po i­
so ning .
@ For the sake of the environment
- Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
- Do not dispose of leftove r clean ing and care
products with household t rash.
Car washes
The longer that deposits s uch as insects, bird
droppings, tree sap or road salt remain on the ve­ h icle, the more the surface can be damaged. High
temperatures such as those caused by sunlight
i n crease the damag ing effect .
Before washing, r inse off heavy deposits with
p lenty of water.
St ubb orn deposits such as bird droppings or tree
sap are best removed with plenty of wate r and a
microfiber cloth.
Also, wash the underside of yo ur vehicle once
road sa lt stops being used for the season .
Pressure washers
When washing your veh icles with a pressure
washer, always follow t he ope ra ti ng ins tructions
p rovided w ith the pressure washer. This is espe­
cially important in regard to the pressure and
spraying distance . Do not direct the stream of

water d irect ly onto seals for the side windows,
doors, luggage compartment lid or hood or onto
the tires, r ubber hoses, insulat ing mater ia l, the
power top, sensors* or camera lenses*. Keep a
distance of at least 16 in (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washe r.
Never use rot ary no zzles or high pressure no z­
z les .
The wate r temperatu re must not be above 140 °F
(60 °().
Automatic car washes
Spray off the ve hicle before wash ing.
Make su re t hat the windows and power top are
closed and the windsh ield wipers are off. Follow
i nstruct ions from the car wash operator, espe­
c ially if there are accessories attached to your ve ­
hicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes.
Washing by hand
Clean the vehicle starting from the top and work ­
ing down using a soft sponge or cleaning brush .
U se solvent-free cleaning products .
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint by
hand
To avoid damaging the pa int when washing, first
remove dust and large part icles from your vehi­
cle. Insects, grease spots and f ingerprints are
best removed w ith a special cleaner for matte
finish paint .
Apply the product using a microf iber cloth. To
avo id damag ing the pa int surface, do not use too
much pressure.
Rinse the veh icle thorough ly with water. Then
clean using a neutra l shampoo and a soft m icro­
fiber cloth.
Rinse the vehicle thoroughly again and let it air
dry. Remove any water residue using a sham my.
Stubborn deposits such as bird dropp ings or tree
sap are best removed with plenty o f water and a
microfiber cloth. .,..
