Cargo space
The vehicle has flexible cargo capacity that makes it possible to load and secure largeobjects.
By folding down the backrests in the second and third rows * of seats, the cargo capacity of the
vehicle increases considerably. To make loading easier, the rear section of the vehicle can beraised and lowered using the pneumatic suspen- sion *. Use the load anchoring eyelets or the gro-
cery bag holder to secure objects and the cargo compartment cover helps conceal the load. The spare tire, jack and tools can be found under the cargo compartment's floor.

Passenger compartment storage spaces
The following is an overview of the passenger compartment and its storage spaces.
Front seats
Storage spaces in the door panel, near the steering wheel, the glove compartment and the sun visors
Storage spaces, cup holders and 12-volt socket in the tunnel console
Second row of seats
Storage compartments in the door panels, cupholders in the center seat's backrest, storage pockets on the rearside of the front seat backrest, and 12-volt socket onthe rear side of the tunnel console

Loading
The load carrying capacity of your vehicle is determined by factors such as the number ofpassengers, the amount of cargo, the weight ofany accessories that may be installed, etc.
Tailgate opening button on the lighting panel
Open the tailgate by pressing the button on the lighting panel, pressing the
button on the
remote key or by using the optional foot move- ment sensor under the rear bumper.
Loading recommendations
• Load objects in the cargo compartment against the backrest whenever possible.
• If the backrests of the second row seats arefolded down, they should not be in contactthe front seat backrests. This could impede the function of the Whiplash ProtectionSystem (WHIPS).
• Unstable loads can be secured to the loadanchoring eyelets with straps or web lash-ings to help keep them from shifting.
• Stop the engine and apply the parking brakewhen loading or unloading long objects. Thegear selector can be knocked out of positionby long loads, which could set the vehicle inmotion.

• The vehicle's driving characteristics may change depending on the weight and dis-tribution of the load.
• A 44-pound (20 kg) object produces aforce of 2,200 pounds (1,000 kg) in ahead-on collision at 30 mph (50 km/h).
• The cargo area and rear seat should notbe loaded to a level higher than 2 in.(5 cm) below the upper edge of the rearside windows. Objects placed higher thanthis level could impede the function ofthe Inflatable Curtain.

Cover sharp edges on long loads to help prevent injury to occupants. Secure theload to help prevent shifting during sud-den stops.
• Always secure large and heavy objectswith a seat belt or cargo retaining straps.
• Always secure the load to help prevent itfrom moving in the event of sudden stops.
• Switch off the engine, apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in
P
when loading and unloading the vehicle.
Raising/lowering the rear-end of the vehicle *
Using the buttons on the read edge of the cargo compartment, the rear-end of the vehicle (thelevel of the cargo compartment floor) can beraised or lowered for easier loading or to make attaching a trailer 1
simpler.

WARNING
•Pilot Assist is not a collision avoidance system. The driver is always responsiblefor applying the brakes if the system doesnot detect another vehicle.
• Do not use Pilot Assist in demandingdriving conditions such as city driving orother heavy traffic situations, in slipperyconditions, when there is a great deal ofwater or slush on the road, during heavyrain or snow, in poor visibility, on windingroads or on highway on- or off-ramps.
• Pilot Assist uses the vehicle's cameraand radar sensor, which have limitations.
Pilot Assist may deactivate or not function optimally if:
• the lane's side market lines are missing, badly faded or cross each other.
• the division of lanes is not clear, e.g.,when a line divides or merges withanother, at exits or if there are many roadsigns/markers.
• if there are edges or other lines on ornear the lane, e.g., curbs, cracks, repairedareas, sharp shadows, etc.
• the lane is narrow or winding.
• the weather conditions (rain, snow, fog,slush, poor visibility, backlighting, etc).
The driver should also be aware that Pilot Assist has the following limitations:
• High curbs, barriers and temporary obsta- cles (cones, barriers etc) may not bedetected or could be detected incorrectlyas side marker lines, which may create arisk of collision. The driver must ensure asafe distance to these obstacles.
• The camera or radar sensor may not beable to detect objects if there are pot-holes or if there are stationary objectspartially or completely blocking the road.
• Pilot Assist does not "see" pedestrians,animals, etc.
• Pilot Assist's steering capacity is limitedand may not always be able to help thedriver keep the vehicle in the lane.
The driver can always take action to override Pilot Assist.
Steep roads and/or heavy loadsPilot Assist is primarily intended for use on rela-tively level roads. The function may not be able tomaintain the correct time interval to the vehicleahead on when driving down steep hills, when thevehicle is transporting a heavy load or if it is tow-ing a trailer. The driver should be attentive andprepared to apply the brakes in these situations.

City Safety limitations
City Safety ™ may have limited or reduced func-
tionality in certain situations.
The function has several limitations that the driver should be familiar with:
Low objectsHanging objects, such as flags for overhanging loads or accessories such as auxiliary lights orfront protective grids that extend beyond theheight of the hood may limit City Safety's func-tion.
Slippery driving conditionsThe extended braking distance on slippery roads may reduce City Safety's capacity to help avoid acollision. In situations of this type, the ABSbrakes and Electronic Stability Control will helpprovide braking power and stability.
BacklightingStrong sunlight, reflections, extreme light con- trasts, the use of sunglasses, or if the driver is notlooking straight ahead may make the visual warn-ing signal in the windshield difficult to see.

Remove snow tires when threat of snow or ice has ended.
• Note that roof racks, ski racks, etc, increaseair resistance and also fuel consumption.
• At highway driving speeds, fuel consumptionwill be lower with the air conditioning on andthe windows closed than with the air condi-tioning off and the windows open.
• Using the onboard trip computer's fuel con-sumption modes can help you learn how todrive more economically.
Other factors that decrease gas mileage are:
• Dirty air cleaner
• Dirty engine oil and clogged oil filter
• Dragging brakes
• Incorrect front end alignment
Some of the above mentioned items and others are checked at the standard maintenance inter-vals.
Handling and roadholding
• Vehicle load, tire design and inflation pres- sure all affect vehicle handling. Therefore,check that the tires are inflated to the rec-ommended pressure according to the vehicleload. Loads should be distributed so thatcapacity weight or maximum permissible axleloads are not exceeded.
• At the specified curb weight your vehicle hasa tendency to understeer, which means thatthe steering wheel has to be turned more than might seem appropriate for the curva-ture of a bend. This ensures good stabilityand reduces the risk of rear wheel skid.Remember that these properties can alterwith the vehicle load. The heavier the load inthe cargo compartment, the less the ten-dency to understeer.
Driving through standing water
The vehicle should be driven with extreme cau- tion if it is necessary to drive through standingwater.
The vehicle can be driven through water up to a depth of approximately 17.7 in. (45 cm) at walk-ing speed to help prevent water from enteringthe differential and the transmission. Thisreduces the oil's lubricating capacity and mayshorten the service life of these components.
• Take particular care when driving through flowing water.
• After driving through water, apply the brakesand check that they are functioning correctly.
• Clean the electrical connections for trailerwiring after driving in mud or water.
• When driving through water, maintain lowspeed and do not stop in the water.

The air conditioning may be switched off temporarily.
• After a prolonged period of driving, do notturn off the engine immediately after stop-ping.
• The engine cooling fan commonly continuesto run for several minutes after the enginehas been turned off.
WARNING
The cooling fan (located at the front of the engine compartment, behind the radiator) maystart or continue to operate (for up to6 minutes) after the engine has beenswitched off.

Winter driving
Check your vehicle before the approach of cold weather.
The following advice is worth noting:
• Make sure that the engine coolant contains 50 percent antifreeze. Any other mixture willreduce freeze protection. This gives protec-tion against freezing down to –31 °F(–35 °C). The use of "recycled" antifreeze isnot approved by Volvo. Different types ofantifreeze must not be mixed.
• Volvo recommends using only genuine Volvoantifreeze in your vehicle's radiator.
• Try to keep the fuel tank well filled – thishelps prevent the formation of condensationin the tank. In addition, in extremely coldweather conditions it is worthwhile to addfuel line de-icer before refueling.
• The viscosity of the engine oil is important.Oil with low viscosity (thinner oil) improvescold-weather starting as well as decreasingfuel consumption while the engine is warm-ing up. Full synthetic 0W-30 oil is recom-mended for driving in areas with sustainedlow temperatures.
• The load placed on the battery is greater dur-ing the winter since the windshield wipers,lighting, etc., are used more often. Moreover,the capacity of the battery decreases as thetemperature drops. In very cold weather, apoorly charged battery can freeze and bedamaged. It is therefore advisable to check the state of charge more frequently andspray an anti-rust oil on the battery posts.
• Volvo recommends the use of snow tires onall four wheels for winter driving.
• To prevent the washer fluid reservoir fromfreezing, add washer solvents containingantifreeze. This is important since dirt is oftensplashed on the windshield during winterdriving, requiring the frequent use of thewashers and wipers. Volvo Washer Solventshould be diluted as follows: Down to 14 °F(–10 °C): 1 part washer solvent and 4 partswater Down to 5 °F (–15 °C): 1 part washersolvent and 3 parts water Down to 0 °F(–18 °C): 1 part washer solvent and 2 partswater Down to –18 °F (–28 °C): 1 partwasher solvent and 1 part water.
• Use Volvo Teflon Lock Spray in the locks.
• Avoid using de-icing sprays as they cancause damage to the locks.

INFOTAINMENT

The infotainment system
The infotainment system consists of a radio, media player and has the capacity to communi-cate with a Bluetooth-connected cell phone. It isalso possible to connect to the Internet to e.g.,stream audio content via apps. The system's functions can be controlled from the right-side steering wheel keypad, the centerdisplay or by using voice commands.

Sound settings
The infotainment system is precalibrated for opti- mal sound reproduction but these settings canbe changed to suit your personal preferences.
The system's volume is normally adjusted using the right-side steering wheel keypad or the vol-ume control below the center display.
Optimal sound reproduction settingsThe audio system is precalibrated for optimalsound reproduction using digital signal process-ing. This calibration takes into account the speak-ers, amplifier, cabin acoustics, listener position,etc., for each combination of vehicle and infotain-ment system. Dynamic calibration is also available, which moni- tors the setting of the volume control, radioreception and the vehicle's speed.
