Manually operated front seats
The front seats can be adjusted in a number of ways to help provide the most comfortable seat-ing position.
Raise/lower the front edge of seat cushion by pumping up/down
Move the seat forward/rearward by pulling the bar upward and moving the seat.
Change lumbar support by pressing the but- ton *
Raise/lower the seat by moving the control up/down
Change backrest tilt by turning the wheel
WARNING
• Do not adjust the seat while driving. The seat should be adjusted so that the brakepedal can be depressed fully. In addition,position the seat as far rearward as com-fort and control allow.
• Check that the seat is securely lockedinto position after adjusting.

Press and release the M button. The indica-
tor light in the button will illuminate.
3. Press button 1, 2 or 3 within 3 seconds to
store the current position of the seat/ mirrors/head-up display in the selected but-ton.
> When the position has been stored in the selected button, an audible signal will sound and the indicator light in the M but-
ton will go out.
If none of the buttons (1, 2 or 3) is pressedwithin 3 seconds, the indicator light in the M but-
ton will go out and the position will not be stored.
The seat/mirrors/head-up display must be moved before a new position can be stored.
Using a stored positionA stored position can be used when one of thefront doors is opened or closed:
Front door open
–Press one of the bottons ( 1–3 ) briefly. The
seat, door mirrors and head-up display will move to the positions stored in that button.
Front door closed
–Press and hold one of the buttons ( 1–3 ) until
the seat, door mirrors and head-up display have moved to the positions stored in thatbutton. The seat, door mirrors and head-up display willstop automatically if the button is released beforethe they have reached the stored positions.
WARNING
•
Because the driver's seat can be adjusted with the ignition off, children should neverbe left unattended in the vehicle.
• Movement of the seat can be STOPPEDat any time by pressing any button on thepower seat control panel.
• Do not adjust the seat while driving. Theseat should be adjusted so that the brakepedal can be depressed fully. In addition,position the seat as far rearward as com-fort and control allow.
• The seat rails on the floor must not beobstructed in any way when the seat is inmotion.

Multifunctional front seats *
In addition to the adjustment settings offered by the power seat controls, the multifunction controlprovides additional possibilities for convenienceand comfort.
Multifunction control on the side of the seat
The multifunction control can be used to adjust lumbar support, the backrest's side bolsters andthe length of the seat cushion. The adjustmentsettings made with the control are shown in the center display * and certain settings can be made
directly from the center display.
Center displayThe adjustment settings for the driver and pas- senger seats made using the multifunction con-trol are shown in the center display. If only oneseat is adjusted, the settings are shown in thecenter of the display. If both seats are adjusted,

Loading
The load carrying capacity of your vehicle is determined by factors such as the number ofpassengers, the amount of cargo, the weight ofany accessories that may be installed, etc.
Tailgate opening button on the lighting panel
Open the tailgate by pressing the button on the lighting panel, pressing the
button on the
remote key or by using the optional foot move- ment sensor under the rear bumper.
Loading recommendations
• Load objects in the cargo compartment against the backrest whenever possible.
• If the backrests of the second row seats arefolded down, they should not be in contactthe front seat backrests. This could impede the function of the Whiplash ProtectionSystem (WHIPS).
• Unstable loads can be secured to the loadanchoring eyelets with straps or web lash-ings to help keep them from shifting.
• Stop the engine and apply the parking brakewhen loading or unloading long objects. Thegear selector can be knocked out of positionby long loads, which could set the vehicle inmotion.

• The vehicle's driving characteristics may change depending on the weight and dis-tribution of the load.
• A 44-pound (20 kg) object produces aforce of 2,200 pounds (1,000 kg) in ahead-on collision at 30 mph (50 km/h).
• The cargo area and rear seat should notbe loaded to a level higher than 2 in.(5 cm) below the upper edge of the rearside windows. Objects placed higher thanthis level could impede the function ofthe Inflatable Curtain.

Raising/lowering the rear-end of the vehicle *
Using the buttons on the read edge of the cargo compartment, the rear-end of the vehicle (thelevel of the cargo compartment floor) can beraised or lowered for easier loading or to make attaching a trailer 1
simpler.

5. Attach the mounting bracket's hook through
the cargo anchoring eyelet near the floor of the cargo compartment and insert the threa-ded section of the bracket through the grid'slower attachment hole (1).
6. Slide the plastic sleeve onto the threaded section of the of the mounting bracket withthe sleeve's flange turned upward and pressit down through the hole. Screw the screwcover into place until its underside isapprox. 0.2 in. (5 mm) from the grid (2).
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the opposite side.
8. Center the grid and tighten both mounting brackets alternately until the grid is held securely in place.
RemovingPerform the steps above in reverse order. Thehooks can be removed before the plastic sleevesare removed from the holes in the grid.

Driver support systems
The vehicle is equipped with a number of driver support systems that help provide the driver withactive/passive support.
Some of these systems are standard while others are optional and they are designed to e.g., helpthe driver maintain a set speed or a set distanceto a vehicle ahead, or warn the driver of a poten-tial collision situation and in certain cases applythe brakes if necessary. Deactivating/resuming Cruise Control (CC) Cruise Control (CC) can be temporarily deacti- vated and put in standby mode.
Deactivating and putting CC in standby
mode
To temporarily deactivate and put Cruise Control in standby mode:

–Press the button (2).
> The set speed marker (4) and symbols will change colors from WHITE to GRAY. This indicates that CC is temporarily in standby mode and will not maintain a setspeed.
Standby mode due to action by the driverCC is temporarily deactivated and put in standby mode if:
• the brakes are applied
• The gear selector is moved to

• the vehicle is driven faster than the set speed for more than 1 minute.
In these cases, the driver will have to regulate the vehicle's speed. A temporary increase in speed, such as when passing another vehicle, does not affect the CCset speed. The vehicle will return to the set speedwhen the accelerator pedal is released.
Automatic standby modeCC switches automatically to standby mode if:
• the wheels lose traction
• engine speed (rpm) is too high/low
• brake temperature is too high
• the vehicle's speed goes below approx. 20 mph (30 km/h)
In these cases, the driver will have to regulate the vehicle's speed.
Reactivating CC from standby modeTo reactivate CC after it has temporarily been putin standby mode:
–Press the button (1).
> The set speed marker (4) will change color from GRAY to WHITE. The vehicle will then return to the most recently set
speed .

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) *
ACC is an optional system designed to assist the driver by maintaining a set speed or a settime interval to the vehicle ahead.
The driver sets that desired speed and time inter- val to the vehicle ahead. When the camera andradar sensor detects a slower moving vehicleahead, your vehicle's speed is automaticallyadapted. When there are no longer slower mov-ing vehicles ahead, your vehicle will accelerate toresume the set speed. ACC is designed to follow a vehicle ahead in the same lane and maintain a time interval to thatvehicle set by the driver. If the radar sensor doesnot detect a vehicle ahead, ACC will insteadmaintain the speed set by the driver. ACC is designed to smoothly regulate speed. However, the driver must apply the brakes in sit-uations that require immediate braking. Thisapplies when there are great differences inspeed between vehicles, or if the vehicle aheadbrakes suddenly. Due to limitations in the radarsensor, braking may occur unexpectedly or not atall. Adaptive Cruise Control can follow another vehi- cle from a standstill up to 125 mph (200 km/h).Always observe posted speed limits.
WARNING
• It is advisable to read through all of the related articles pertaining to ACC (seethe list at the end of this article).
• Adaptive Cruise Control cannot cover alldriving situations and traffic, weather androad conditions.
• This system is designed to be a supple-mentary driving aid. It is not, however,intended to replace the driver's attentionand judgement. The driver is responsiblefor maintaining a safe distance and speedand must intervene if Adaptive CruiseControl does not maintain a suitablespeed or suitable distance to the vehicleahead.
• Maintenance of ACC components mayonly be performed by a trained and quali-fied Volvo technician.
OverviewThe distance to the vehicle ahead (in the same lane) is monitored by a radar sensor. Your vehi-cle's speed is regulated by accelerating andbraking. The brakes may emit a sound when theyare being modulated by the adaptive cruise con-trol system. This is normal.
WARNING
•
Adaptive Cruise Control is not a collision avoidance system. The driver is alwaysresponsible for applying the brakes if thesystem does not detect another vehicle.
• Adaptive Cruise Control does not react topeople or animals, or small vehicles suchas bicycles and motorcycles. It also doesnot react to slow moving, parked orapproaching vehicles, or stationaryobjects.
• Do not use Adaptive Cruise Control indemanding driving conditions such as citydriving or other heavy traffic situations, inslippery conditions, when there is a greatdeal of water or slush on the road, duringheavy rain or snow, in poor visibility, onwinding roads or on highway on- or off-ramps.

Adaptive Cruise Control can exert brake force that is equivalent to approximately 40% of thevehicle's total braking capacity. In situations requiring more brake force than ACC can provide and if the driver does not applythe brakes, an audible signal from the City Safetysystem will sound and warning light will illuminatein the windshield to alert the driver to react.
NOTE
Strong sunlight, reflections, extreme light con- trasts, the use of sunglasses, or if the driver isnot looking straight ahead may make the vis-ual warning signal in the windshield difficult tosee.
