If the battery ofthe Intelligent Key isdischarged,
or environmental conditionsinterferewiththe
Intelligent Key operation, starttheengine
according tothe following procedure:
1. Move theshift lever tothe P(Park) position
(for Continuously Variable Transmission
models) orthe shift lever tothe N(Neutral)
position (formanual transmission models).
2. Firmly applythefoot brake.
3. Touch theignition switchwiththeIntelligent
K ey as illustrated. (Achime willsound.) 4.
Push theignition switchwhiledepressing
the brake pedalwithin 10seconds afterthe
chime sounds. Theengine willstart.
After step3is performed, whentheignition
switch ispushed withoutdepressing thebrake
pedal, theignition switchposition willchange to
ACC.
NO TE:
. When theignition switchispushed to
the ACC orON position orthe engine is
started bythe above procedures, the
Intelligent Keysystem warning light
may blink inyellow evenifthe Intelli-
gent Keyisinside thevehicle. Thisis
not amalfunction. To stop thewarning
light from blinking, touchtheignition
switch withtheIntelligent Keyagain.
. Ifthe Intelligent Keysystem warning
light inthe meter isblinking ingreen,
replace thebattery assoon aspossible.

Engine coolant level*:Checkthecoolant level

Engine drivebelt*: Makesurethatthedrive
belt isnot frayed, worn,cracked oroily .
Engine oillevel*: Checkthelevel afterparking
the vehicle onalevel surface andturning offthe
engine. Wait more than10minutes forthe oilto
drain backintotheoilpan.
Exhaust system:Makesurethere arenoloose
supports, cracksorholes. Ifthe sound ofthe
exhaust seemsunusual orthere isasmell of
exhaust fumes,immediately havetheexhaust
system inspected byaNISSAN dealer.(See
ªPrecautions whenstarting anddrivingº (P.5-2)
for exhaust gas(carbon monoxide) .)
Fluid leaks: Checkunderthevehicle forfuel,
oil, water orother fluidleaks afterthevehicle has
been parked forawhile. Water dripping fromthe
air conditioner afteruseisnormal. Ifyou should
notice anyleaks orifgasoline fumesareevident,
check forthe cause andhave itcorrected
immediately . Radiator
andhoses: Checkthefront ofthe
radiator andclean offany dirt, insects, leaves,
etc., thatmay have accumulated. Makesurethe
hoses havenocracks, deformation, rotorloose
connections.
Underbody: Theunderbody isfrequently ex-
posed tocorrosive substances suchasthose
used onicy roads ortocontrol dust.Itis very
important toremove thesesubstances, other-
wise rustwillform onthe floor pan,frame, fuel
lines andaround theexhaust system.Atthe end
of winter, theunderbody shouldbethoroughly
flushed withplain water, beingcareful toclean
those areaswhere mudanddirtmay accumu-

1. Place alarge drain panunder thedrain plug.
2. Remove theoilfiller cap.
3. Remove thedrain plugwithawrench and
completely draintheoil.
CAUTION
Be careful nottoburn yourself, asthe
engine oilishot.

Waste oilmust bedisposed of
properly.

Check yourlocal regulations.
(Perform steps4to 7only when theengine
oil filter change isneeded.)
4. Loosen theoilfilter withanoilfilter wrench.
Remove theoilfilter byturning itby hand.
5. Wipe theengine oilfilter mounting surface
with aclean rag.
CAUTION
Be sure toremove anyoldgasket
material remaining onthe mounting
surface ofthe engine. Failuretodo so
could leadtoengine damage.
6. Coat thegasket onthe new filter withclean
engine oil.
7. Screw inthe oilfilter clockwise untilaslight
resistance isfelt, then tighten additionally
more than2/3turn.
Oil filter tightening torque:
11 to15 ft-lb
(14.7 to20.5 N´m)
8. Clean andre-install thedrain plugwitha
new washer. Securely tightenthedrain plug
with awrench. Drain
plugtightening torque:
22 to29 ft-lb
(29 to39 N´m)
Do not use excessive force.
9. Refill theengine withtherecommended oil
through theoilfiller opening, andinstall the
oil filler capsecurely .
See ªCapacities andrecommended fluids/
lubricantsº (P.9-2) fordrain andrefill capa-
city .The drain andrefill capacity depends on
the oiltemperature anddrain time.Use
these specifications forreference only.Al-
ways usethedipstick todetermine the
proper amount ofoil inthe engine.
10. Start theengine andcheck forleakage
around thedrain plugandtheoilfilter.
Correct asrequired.
11. Turn theengine offand wait more than10
minutes. Checktheoillevel withthedipstick.
Add engine oilifnecessary .

reservoir tankwithwasher fluid
concentrates atfull strength. Some
methyl alcohol basedwasher fluid
concentrates maypermanently stain
the grille ifspilled whilefilling the
window washerreservoir tank.
. Pre-mix washerfluidconcentrates
with water tothe manufacturer's
recommended levelsbefore pouring
the fluid intothewindow washer
reservoir tank.Donot use the
