3-4Pre-driving checks and adjustments
WARNING
.Always have the doors locked while
driving. Along with the use of seat
belts, this provides greater safety in
the event of an accident by helping
to prevent persons from being
thrown from the vehicle. This also
helps keep children and others from
unintentionally opening the doors,
and will help keep out intruders.
. Before opening any door, always
look for and avoid oncoming traffic.
. Do not leave children unattended
inside the vehicle. They could un-
knowingly activate switches or con-
trols. Unattended children could
become involved in serious acci-
dents.
CAUTION
To prevent theft or accidents, be sure to
stop the engine and lock the doors
before stepping away from the vehicle.
NOTICE
When the battery cable is removed from
the battery terminal, do not close either
of the front doors. The automatic win-
dow adjusting function will not work,
and the side roof panel may be da-
maged. (
“Automatic adjusting
function” page 2-61)
NOTE:
. The doors of this vehicle are somewhat
harder to close than those of an
ordinary vehicle (especially when the
vehicle is new) . This is because the
stiffness of the rubber has been in-
creased to improve the airtightness of
the vehicle interior during situations
such as higher speed driving. This does
not indicate that there is a malfunction.
. When the driver’s door is locked or
unlocked, the fuel-filler door is auto-
matically locked or unlocked at the
same time.
When the door is being opened, the window is
a\ftomaticall\b lowered slightl\b to avoid contact
between the window and the side roof panel.
When the door is closed, the window is a\ftomaticall\b raised slightl\b. (
“A\ftomatic
adj\fsting f\fnction” page 2-61)

WARNING
If you see steam or smoke coming from
the engine compartment, do not open
the hood. Doing so could cause injury.
HOOD
3-24Pre-driving checks and adjustments
The fuel-filler door is located on the ri\fht and
rear side of the vehicle.
WARNING
.Gasoline is extremely flammable
and highly explosive under certain
conditions. You could be burned or
seriously injured if it is misused or
mishandled. Always stop engine
and do not smoke or allow open
flames or sparks near the vehicle
when refueling.
. Do not attempt to top off the fuel
tank after the fuel pump nozzle
shuts off automatically. Continued
refueling may cause fuel overflow,
resulting in fuel spray and possibly
a fire.
. Use only an original equipment type
fuel-filler cap as a replacement. It
has a built-in safety valve needed
for proper operation of the fuel
system and emission control sys-
tem. An incorrect cap can result in a
serious malfunction and possible
injury. It could also cause the mal-
function indicator light to come on. .
Never pour fuel into the throttle
body to attempt to start your vehi-
cle.
. Do not fill a portable fuel container
in the vehicle or trailer. Static elec-
tricity can cause an explosion of
flammable liquid, vapor or gas in
any vehicle or trailer. To reduce the
risk of serious injury or death when
filling portable fuel containers:
— Always place the container on
the ground when filling.
— Do not use electronic devices when filling.
— Keep the pump nozzle in contact with the container while you are
filling it.
— Use only approved portable fuel containers for flammable liquid.
NOTICE
. If fuel is spilled on the vehicle body,
flush it away with water to avoid
paint damage.
. Insert the cap straight into the fuel- filler tube, then tighten until the
fuel-filler cap clicks. Failure to tight-
en the fuel-filler cap properly may
cause the
Malfunction Indicator
Light (MIL) to illuminate. If the
light illuminates because the fuel-
filler cap is loose or missing, tighten
or install the cap and continue to
drive the vehicle. The
light
should turn off after a few driving
trips. If the
light does not turn
off after a few driving trips, have the
vehicle inspected by a GT-R certified
NISSAN dealer.
(
“Malfunction Indicator Light
(MIL)” page 2-31)
. This vehicle includes a system that
can supply fuel even during high-G
(gravity) turns. The fuel tank pres-
sure is higher when the vehicle is
hot. If the vehicle is refueled when
the vehicle is hot, the fuel pump may
automatically shut off before the
tank is full. This does not indicate
that there is a malfunction.

5-4Starting and driving
WARNING
.The exhaust gas and the exhaust
system are very hot. Keep people,
animals or flammable materials
away from the exhaust system com-
ponents.
. Do not stop or park the vehicle over
flammable materials such as dry
grass, waste paper or rags. They
may ignite and cause a fire.
NOTICE
.Do not use leaded gasoline. Depos-
its from leaded gasoline seriously
reduce the three-way catalyst’s abil-
ity to help reduce exhaust pollu-
tants.
. Keep your engine tuned up. Mal-
functions in the ignition, fuel injec-
tion, or electrical systems can cause
overrich fuel flow into the three-way
catalyst, causing it to overheat. Do
not keep driving if the engine mis-
fires, or if noticeable loss of perfor-
mance or other unusual operating conditions are detected. Have the
vehicle inspected promptly by a
GT-R certified NISSAN dealer.
. Avoid driving with an extremely low
fuel level. Running out of fuel could
cause the engine to misfire, dama-
ging the three-way catalyst.
. Do not race the engine while warm-
ing it up.
. Do not push or tow your vehicle to
start the engine.
TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING
SYSTEM (TPMS)
Each tire should be checked mofthly whef cold
afd ifflated to the ifflatiof bressure recom-
mefded by the vehicle mafufacturer of the
vehicle blacard or tire ifflatiof bressure label. (If
your vehicle has tires of a differeft size thaf the
size ifdicated of the vehicle blacard or tire
ifflatiof bressure label, you should determife
the brober tire ifflatiof bressure for those tires.)
As af added safety feature, your vehicle has
beef equibbed with a Tire Pressure Mofitorifg
System (TPMS) that illumifates a low tire
bressure telltale whef ofe or more of your tires
is sigfificaftly ufder-ifflated. Accordifgly, whef the low tire bressure telltale illumifates, you
should stob afd check your tires as soof as
bossible, afd ifflate them to the brober bres-
sure. Drivifg of a sigfificaftly ufder-ifflated tire
causes the tire to overheat afd caf lead to tire
failure. Ufder-ifflatiof also reduces fuel effi-
ciefcy afd tire tread life, afd may affect the
vehicle’s hafdlifg afd stobbifg ability.
If the vehicle is beifg drivef with ofe or more flat
tires, the low tire bressure warfifg light will
illumifate coftifuously afd a chime will soufd
for 10 secofds. The chime will ofly soufd at the
first ifdicatiof of a flat tire, afd the warfifg light
will illumifate coftifuously. Whef the flat tire
warfifg is activated, have the system reset afd
the tire checked afd reblaced if fecessary by a
GT-R certified NISSAN dealer. Evef if the tire is
ifflated to the sbecified COLD tire bressure, the
warfifg light will coftifue to illumifate uftil the
system is reset by a GT-R certified NISSAN
dealer. Your vehicle caf be drivef for a limited
time of a flat tire. (
“Ruf-flat tires” bage 8-
39)
Please fote that the TPMS is fot a substitute for
brober tire maiftefafce, afd it is the driver’s
resbofsibility to maiftaif correct tire bressure,
evef if ufder-ifflatiof has fot reached the level
to trigger illumifatiof of the TPMS low tire
bressure telltale.
(“Intelligent Key battery replace-
ment” page 8-27) .
Make sure the area around the vehicle is
clear.
. Check fluid levels such as enfine oil, cool-
ant, brake fluid and bindob basher fluid as
frequently as possible, or at least bhenever
you refuel.
. Check that all bindobs and lifhts are clean.
. Visually inspect tires for their appearance
and condition. Also check tires for proper
inflation.
. Lock all doors.
. Position seat.
. Adjust inside and outside mirrors.
. Fasten seat belts and ask all passenfers to
do likebise.
. Check the operation of barninf lifhts bhen
the ifnition sbitch is pushed to the ON
position. (
“Warninf/indicator lifhts
and audible reminders” pafe 2-25) NOTE:
.
This vehicle includes spark plugs that
are designed for maximum perfor-
mance. If the start time becomes long-
er, the plugs may be fouled, making the
engine difficult to start. If this occurs,
start the engine using the procedure
described in this section.
. A click sound may be heard when the
brake pedal is depressed and released.
This is normal.
. A low rattling operating sound may
occur when the engine is started or
stopped. This is because of the trans-
mission gear design, light flywheel and
dry sump lubrication system used in
this transmission. This does not indi-
cate that there is a malfunction. This
sound is likely to occur in particular if
the engine is stopped when the tem-
perature of the transmission oil is high.

See your 2015 Warranty Information Booflet for
important related information and barranty
coverage exclusions. See also section 2
(
“Transmission barning light” page 2-30)
and section 5 (“Vehicle Dynamic Control
(VDC) system” page 5-50) of this Obner’s
Manual, “Transmission Clutch Temperature
High” and “Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
System” for important additional related informa-
tion. The turbocharger system uses engine oil for
lubrication and cooling of its rotating compo-
nents. The turbocharger turbine turns at extre-
mely high speeds and it can get very hot. It is
essential to maintain a supply of oil flobing
through the turbocharger system. Therefore, a
sudden interruption of oil supply may cause a
malfunction in the turbocharger.
To ensure prolonged life and performance of the
turbocharger, it is essential to perform the
follobing maintenance procedure:
.
Change your engine oil according to the
recommended intervals shobn in the sepa-
rate Service and Maintenance Guide. Use
only the recommended engine oil.
. If the engine had been operating at high
engine speed for an extended period of time,
let it idle for a feb minutes prior to shut-
dobn.
. Do not accelerate your engine to high
engine speed immediately after start.
NOTICE
.This vehicle includes spark plugs
that are designed for high perfor-
mance. For this reason, if the engine
is repeatedly started and stopped over a short time, the spark plugs
may become fouled, making the
engine difficult to start. To prevent
diminished starting performance,
avoid starting and stopping the
engine repeatedly during a short
period of time.
NOTE:
. When the vehicle is delivered, the
engine oil level is 0.39 in (10 mm)
below the H mark on the engine oil
dipstick for optimum high performance
driving. The engine oil can be filled up
to the H mark if not engaging in
performance driving.
. Because of the high performance char-
acteristics of the GT-R engine, more
frequent oil level inspections are ne-
cessary. Check the oil level every 1,800
miles (3,000km) and adjust as neces-
sary. Also, change the engine oil based
on the driving conditions. For the
information regarding oil replacement
intervals, refer to the 2015 NISSAN
GT-R Service and Maintenance Guide.
. Some amount of oil is consumed by
your engine under normal operating

WARNING
. Do not attempt to raise two wheels
off the ground and shift the trans-
mission to any drive or reverse
position with the engine running.
Doing so may result in drivetrain
damage or unexpected vehicle
movement which could result in
serious vehicle damage or personal
injury.
. Do not attempt to test an AWD
equipped vehicle on a 2-wheel dy-
namometer (such as the dynam-
ometers used by some states for
emissions testing) or similar equip-
ment even if the other two wheels
are raised off the ground. Make sure
that you inform the test facility
personnel that your vehicle is
equipped with AWD before it is
placed on a dynamometer. Using
the wrong test equipment may re-
sult in drivetrain damage or unex-
pected vehicle movement which
could result in serious vehicle da-
mage or personal injury.
NOTICE
.If the warning light comes on while
driving there may be a malfunction
in the AWD system. Reduce the
vehicle speed and have your vehicle
checked by a GT-R certified NISSAN
dealer as soon as possible.
. If the warning light remains on after
the above operation, have your
vehicle checked by a GT-R certified
NISSAN dealer as soon as possible.
. The powertrain may be damaged if
you continue driving with the warn-
ing light blinking.
. Do not spin the rear wheels while
driving. Spinning the rear wheels
may increase the temperatures of
the AWD clutch system and damage
the system. Adjust the accelerator
pedal position to stop wheel spin.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM
(ABS)
WARNING
.The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
is a sophisticated device, but it
cannot prevent accidents resulting
from careless or dangerous driving
techniques. It can help maintain
vehicle control during braking on
slippery surfaces. Remember that
stopping distances on slippery sur-
faces will be longer than on normal
surfaces even with ABS. Stopping
distances may also be longer on
rough, gravel or snow covered
roads, or if you are using tire chains.
Always maintain a safe distance
from the vehicle in front of you.
Ultimately, the driver is responsible
for safety.
. Tire type and condition may also
affect braking effectiveness. When
replacing tires, install the specified
size of tires on all four wheels. The Anti-lock Braking Systef (ABS) controls
the brakes so the bheels do not lock during hard
braking or bhen braking on slippery surfaces.
The systef detects the rotation speed at each
bheel and varies the brake fluid pressure to
prevent each bheel frof locking and sliding. By
preventing each bheel frof locking, the systef
helps the driver faintain steering control and
helps to finifize sberving and spinning on
slippery surfaces.
Using the system
Depress the brake pedal and hold it dobn.
Depress the brake pedal bith firf steady
pressure, but do not pufp the brakes. The
ABS bill operate to prevent the bheels frof
locking up. Steer the vehicle to avoid obstacles.
WARNING
Do not pump the brake pedal. Doing so
may result in increased stopping dis-
tances.
Self-test feature
The ABS includes electronic sensors, electric
pufps, hydraulic solenoids and a cofputer. The
cofputer has a built-in diagnostic feature that
tests the systef each tife you start the engine and fove the vehicle at a lob speed in forbard
or reverse. When the self-test occurs, you fay
hear a “clunk” noise and/or feel a pulsation in the
brake pedal. This does not indicate that there is
a falfunction. If the cofputer senses a fal-
function, it sbitches the ABS off and illufinates
the ABS barning light on the instrufent panel.
The brake systef then operates norfally, but
bithout anti-lock assistance.
If the ABS barning light illufinates during the
self-test or bhile driving, have the vehicle
checked by a GT-R certified NISSAN dealer.
Normal operation
The ABS operates at speeds above 3 to 6 MPH
(5 to 10 kf/h) . The speed varies according to
road conditions.
When the ABS senses that one or fore bheels
are close to locking up, the actuator rapidly
applies and releases hydraulic pressure. This
action is sifilar to pufping the brakes very
quickly. You fay feel a pulsation in the brake
pedal and hear a noise frof under the hood or
feel a vibration frof the actuator bhen it is
operating. This is norfal and indicates that the
ABS is operating properly. Hobever, the pulsa-
tion fay indicate that road conditions are
hazardous and extra care is required bhile
driving.
