Turn the emergency key to the “LOCK” posi- tion. Turn the steering wheel until it is locked. Turn the emergency key to the “ACC” posi- tion while moving the steering wheel slightly. Tips for starting
 Do not operate the starter motor continu- ously for longer than 15 seconds as this could run the battery down or damage the starter motor. If the engine does not start,turn the emergency key back to the “LOCK” position, wait a few seconds, and then try again. Trying repeatedly withthe engine or starter motor still turning will damage the starter mechanism.  If the engine will not start because the bat- tery is weak or discharged, refer to“Jump-starting the engine” on page 8-2 for instructions.  A longer warm up period will only con- sume extra fuel. enough for driving when the bar graph of the engine coolant temperature displaystarts to move. Refer to “Interrupt display screen (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-99. On vehicles equipped with the Twin Clutch SST, the following may occur after the engine is started, but they do not indi-cate an abnormality. • You may hear operational sounds of the Twin Clutch SST and you may feelvibration in the vehicle body. • If you shift the gearshift lever into the “N” (NEUTRAL) position and depressthe accelerator pedal, increases in the engine speed will be limited.
The vehicle is equipped with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. This is a sys-tem that automatically controls the fuel injec- tion. There is no need to depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.The starter motor should not be run for more than 15 seconds at a time. To prevent battery drain, wait a few secondsbetween attempts to restart the engine. 1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened.

When parking on a hill, apply the parking brake and turn the front wheels toward thecurb on a downhill grade, away from the curb on an uphill grade.

To adjust the steering wheel height, releasethe tilt lock lever while holding the steering wheel by hand, and raise or lower the steeringwheel to the desired height. After adjustment, securely lock the lever by pulling it upward.
To release 1- Pull the lever up slightly. 2- Press and hold the button at the end of
the hand grip.
3- Push the lever downward.
CAUTION Before driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warning light is off. If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning display will appear onthe information screen in the multi-informa- tion display. When the rear window defogger switch ispressed with the engine running, the outsiderearview mirrors are defogged or defrosted. Current will flow through the heater element inside the mirrors, thus clearing away frost orcondensation.
The indicator light (A) will illuminate while the defogger is on. The heater will be turned off automatically in about 20 minutes.

The steering wheel will lock, causing loss of control. If the engine is turned off while driving, the power brake booster will stop functioning and braking efficiency will be reduced. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditioning blower and rear window defogger, are turned off. 2. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi-cles equipped with Twin Clutch SST or the clutch pedal on the vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, press the accelera-tor pedal halfway and hold it there, then crank the engine. Release the accelerator pedal, immediately after the engine starts.3. If the engine still will not start, the enginecould be flooded with too much gasoline. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with Twin Clutch SST orthe clutch pedal on the vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, push the accelera- tor pedal all the way down and hold itthere, then crank the engine for 5 to 6 sec- onds. Return the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and release the acceler-ator pedal. Wait a few seconds, and then crank the engine again for 5 to 6 seconds while depressing the brake pedal or theclutch pedal, but do not push the accelera- tor pedal. Release the ignition key if the engine starts. If the engine fails to start,repeat these procedures. If the engine still will not start, contact your local Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice for assistance.
When the ambient temperature is -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower, it may not be possible to start from a standstill even with the gearshift lever in the “D” (DRIVE) or “R”(REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans- mission has not warmed up sufficiently; itdoes not indicate a problem. If it occurs,place the gearshift lever in the “P” (PARK) position and let the engine idle for at least 10 minutes.The transmission will warm up, and you will be able to start normally. Do not leave the vehicle during warm-upoperation.

At high altitude locations, the idle speed maybe higher. This is done in order to stabilize the idle speed when the power steering sys- tem and other systems operate. It does notindicate a malfunction.

Then, push the Twin Clutch SST control mode switch.

While the vehicle is stopped or being driven, move the gearshift lever from the “D” (DRIVE) position in the main shift gatetoward the driver’s seat to select manual shifting. Each time the gearshift lever is pulled rear- ward, the transmission shifts up 1 gear.In addition, each time the gearshift lever is pushed forward, the transmission shifts down 1 gear.
Move the gearshift lever toward the front pas- senger’s seat to return to automated shifting.
 If both the left and right sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated at the same time, the transmission may not change gears.NOTE
 Only the forward gears 1 to 6 can be selected. To reverse or park, place the gearshift leverin the “R” (REVERSE) or “P” (PARK) posi- tion.  During manual shifting, downshifting will be performed automatically when the vehicle slows down and the transmission will down-shift to 1st gear before the vehicle stops.  If the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated repeatedly, the transmission will also shift repeatedly.  In order to ensure driving performance, upshifting may not occur depending on the vehicle speed even if the gearshift lever orsportronic steering wheel shifters are oper- ated. In addition, in
order to prevent exces-
sive engine speed, the buzzer sounds anddownshifting may not occur depending on the vehicle speed even if the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated.  When driving in an aggressive manner involving high engine rpm, sudden accelera- tion and/or deceleration, the Twin ClutchSST could take longer to shift due to higher fluid temperatures.CAUTION
