Doors and Locks
The luggage compartment can be accessed
by opening the liftgate when the straps are
attached to the sides of the liftgate.

Removing the cover
This cover can be removed for more room.
1. Remove the straps from the hooks.
2. Lift the end of the luggage
compartment cover a little, pull it
outward, and remove it from the pins.

3. Lift the front end of the luggage
compartment cover and remove it. Loading golf bags (only Saloon)
Up to two golf bags can be carried in the
boot.
1. Place the bottom of the fi rst golf bag in
the boot with its bottom pointed to the
left and fi t it into the front of the boot.
2. Place the second golf bag in the boot
with its bottom pointed to the left and
fi t it into the back of the boot.
NOTE
Some golf bags cannot fi t depending on
their size.

Operation
Siren triggering conditions
The siren sounds intermittently and the
hazard warning lights fl ash for about 30
seconds when the system is triggered by
any one of the following:
 


 Unlocking a door with the key or an
inside door-lock knob.
 


 Forcing open a door, the bonnet or the
liftgate/boot lid.
 


 Opening the bonnet by operating the
bonnet release handle.
 


 Switching the ignition ON without using
the push button start.
 


 The intrusion sensor detects a movement
in the vehicle.
The system will be triggered again (up to
10 times) if one of the above conditions
remains.
 


 Disconnecting the battery terminal (the
hazard warning lights do not fl ash).
The system will be triggered about 10
times.
NOTE
If the battery goes dead while the theft-
deterrent system is armed, the siren will
activate and the hazard warning lights
will fl ash when the battery is charged or
replaced.
How to Arm the System
1. Close the windows and the sunroof *
securely.
NOTE
Even with a window or the sunroof *
open, the system can be armed,
however, leaving the windows and the
sunroof
* even partially open can invite
theft, and wind blowing into the vehicle
could trigger the alarm.
The intrusion sensor function can also
be cancelled.
Refer to Cancelling the Intrusion/Tilt
Sensor on page 3-48 .
2. Switch the ignition OFF.
3. Make sure the bonnet, the doors, and
the liftgate/boot lid are closed.
4. Press the lock button on the transmitter.
The hazard warning lights will fl ash
once.
(With the advanced keyless function)
Press a request switch.
The security indicator light in the
instrument panel fl ashes twice per
second for 20 seconds.
5. After 20 seconds, the system is fully
armed.

NOTE
  The theft deterrent system can also
be armed by activating the auto
relock function with all the doors,
the liftgate/boot lid and the bonnet
closed.
 Refer to Transmitter on page 3-4 .   The system will disarm if one of
the following operations takes place
within 20 seconds after pressing the
lock button:
 


 Unlocking any door.



 Opening any door or the liftgate/
boot lid .
 


 Opening the bonnet.



 Switching the ignition ON.

 To rearm the system, do the arming
procedure again.
  When the doors are locked by
pressing the lock button on the
transmitter while the theft-deterrent
system is armed, the hazard warning
lights will fl ash once to indicate that
the system is armed.
Cancelling the Intrusion Sensor
If the theft deterrent system has been
armed while any of the following
conditions are present, cancel the intrusion
sensor to prevent the alarm from triggering
unnecessarily.
(Intrusion sensor)
 


 Leaving the vehicle with a movable
object, passengers or pets remaining
inside.
 


 Leaving an object inside the vehicle
that can roll around, such as when the
vehicle is placed on a tilting, unstable
surface when being shipped.
 


 Hanging small objects/accessories in
the vehicle, hanging clothing on a coat
hook, or placing other items which can
move easily inside the vehicle.
 


 Parking in an area where there is strong
vibration or loud noise.
 


 When using a high pressure or automatic
car wash.
 


 Continuous shock and vibration
from hail or thunder and lightning is
transmitted to the vehicle.
 


 Doors are locked with a window or the
sunroof* left open. 


 An accessory heater or device that
produces moving air and vibration
operates while the theft deterrent system
is armed.
NOTE
If any door or the liftgate/boot lid
remains closed for 30 seconds, all
the doors and the liftgate/boot lid
automatically re-lock and the theft
deterrent system arms even if a window
and the sunroof
* is left open.

To cancel the intrusion sensor, press
the intrusion sensor cancel button on
the transmitter within 20 seconds after
pressing the lock button.
The hazard warning lights will fl ash three
times.
NOTE
  To reactivate the intrusion sensor,
turn off the armed theft-deterrent
system and then rearm it.
  The intrusion sensor is operational
when the theft-deterrent system
is armed. To cancel the intrusion
sensor, press the intrusion sensor
cancel button each time the theft-
deterrent system is armed.
To Turn Off an Armed System
An armed system can be turned off using
any one of the following methods:
 


 Pressing the unlock button or the boot
button (saloon) on the transmitter.
 


 Starting the engine with the push button
start.
 


(With the advanced keyless function)



 
 Pressing a request switch on the doors.


 
 Pressing the electric liftgate/boot lid
opener while the key is being carried.
The hazard warning lights will fl ash twice.
NOTE
When the doors are unlocked by
pressing the unlock button on the
transmitter while the theft-deterrent
system is turned off, the hazard warning
lights will fl ash twice to indicate that the
system is turned off.
To Stop the Alarm
A triggered alarm can be turned off using
any one of the following methods:
 


 Pressing the unlock button or the boot
button (saloon) on the transmitter.
 


 Starting the engine with the push button
start.
 


(With the advanced keyless function)



 
 Pressing a request switch on the doors.


 
 Pressing the electric liftgate/boot lid
opener while the key is being carried.
The hazard warning lights will fl ash twice.
Theft-Deterrent Labels
A label indicating that your vehicle is
equipped with a Theft-Deterrent System is
in the glove compartment.
Mazda recommends that you affi x it to the
lower rear corner of a front door window.

Theft-Deterrent System
(Without the Intrusion
Sensor)

If the theft deterrent system detects an
inappropriate entry into the vehicle,
which could result in the vehicle or its
contents being stolen, the alarm alerts the
surrounding area of an abnormality by
sounding the horn and fl ashing the hazard
warning lights.
The system will not function unless it's
properly armed. So when you leave the
vehicle, follow the arming procedure
correctly.
Operation
System triggering conditions
The horn sounds intermittently and the
hazard warning lights fl ash for about 30
seconds when the system is triggered by
any one of the following:
 


 Unlocking a door with the key or an
inside door-lock knob.
 


 Forcing open a door, the bonnet or the
liftgate/boot lid.
 


 Opening the bonnet by operating the
bonnet release handle.
 


 Switching the ignition ON without using
the push button start.
If the system is triggered again, the lights
and horn will activate until the driver's
door or the liftgate/boot lid is unlocked
with the transmitter.
(With advanced key)
The lights and horn can also be
deactivated by pressing the request switch
on a door.
NOTE
If the battery goes dead while the theft-
deterrent system is armed, the horn will
activate and the hazard warning lights
will fl ash when the battery is charged or
replaced.
How to Arm the System
1. Close the windows and the sunroof *
securely.
2. Switch the ignition OFF.
3. Make sure the bonnet, the doors, and
the liftgate/boot lid are closed.
4. Press the lock button on the transmitter
or lock the driver's door from the
outside with the auxiliary key.
The hazard warning lights will fl ash
once.
(With the advanced keyless function)
Press a request switch.
The security indicator light in the
instrument panel fl ashes twice per
second for 20 seconds.
5. After 20 seconds, the system is fully
armed.

Start/Stop Engine
NOTE
To ensure safe and comfortable use of the vehicle, the i-stop function controls engine stop
and restart automatically while constantly monitoring operations other than those of the
driver, such as the vehicle's interior and exterior environment, and the operational status
of the vehicle.
 
 The engine stops automatically when all of the following conditions are met:




 The engine has been started and the vehicle is driven for a certain period. The i-stop
function will not operate if the vehicle is not fi rst driven, no matter how long the
engine is left idling. Also, after the vehicle is driven for a certain period and then
stopped, the i-stop function (automatic engine-stop and restart) operates only once
while the vehicle is stopped.
 


 The engine is started with the bonnet closed.



(SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0)
 The engine has warmed up suffi ciently.



(Manual transaxle)
 The vehicle speed is about 3 km/h (2 mph) or less.
(Automatic transaxle)
 The vehicle is stopped.



 The battery is in good condition.



 The bonnet is closed.



 All the doors and the liftgate/boot lid are closed.



 The driver's seat belt is fastened.



 The windscreen defroster switch is off.



(Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)
 The temperature setting dial for the air conditioning is set to a position other than
maximum heating/maximum cooling (A/C ON).
 


(Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)
 The vehicle's interior temperature and the set temperature for the air-conditioning
system are nearly the same.
 


(European model)
 The vehicle is driven at elevations of 1,800 meters (5,905 ft) or less.
(Except European model)
 The vehicle is driven at elevations of 1,500 meters (4,921 ft) or less.



 The i-stop warning light (amber) is not illuminated or fl ashing.



 The keyless entry system operate normally.



 The brakes are applied suffi ciently (brake system vacuum level is suffi cient).



 The steering wheel is not being operated.

Start/Stop Engine
NOTE
  If any one of the following operations is performed after the engine has been
automatically stopped (shift lever is in neutral position for vehicles with manual
transaxle), the engine will restart automatically even though the clutch pedal is not
depressed (manual transaxle) or the brake pedal is not released (automatic transaxle).
However, for safety reasons, if the shift lever is in a position other than neutral for
vehicles with manual transaxle, the engine will not restart automatically.
 


 The i-stop OFF switch is pressed for several seconds.



(Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)
 The temperature setting dial of the air conditioning is set to maximum heating/
maximum cooling (A/C ON).
 


 The windscreen defroster switch is on.



(Except European model)
 The driver intends to get out of the vehicle (driver's seat belt is unfastened and any
door or the liftgate/boot lid is opened).
 


 The brakes are released slightly on a slope and the vehicle begins to move.

(Automatic transaxle)




 The accelerator pedal is depressed while the selector lever is in the D/M position
(not second gear fi xed mode).




 The selector lever is shifted to the R position.



 The selector lever is shifted from the N or P position to the D/M position (not second
gear fi xed mode).




 The steering wheel is operated with the selector lever in the D/M position (not
second gear fi xed mode).




 The selector lever is in the M position, second gear fi xed mode. 

 If any one of the following vehicle conditions occur after the engine has been
automatically stopped (shift lever is in neutral position for vehicles with manual
transaxle), the engine will restart automatically even though the clutch pedal is not
depressed (manual transaxle) or the brake pedal is not released (automatic transaxle).
However, for safety reasons, if the shift lever is in a position other than neutral for
vehicles with manual transaxle, the engine will not restart automatically.
 


(Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)
 There is a large difference between the cabin temperature and the temperature set for
the air-conditioning system.
 


 Two minutes have elapsed since the i-stop function started operating.



 The battery power is depleted.
