Driving mode ●
Mode is suitable for ordinary driving. ●
Mode is suitable for heavy load or driving on a unpaved road. ●
With the four-wheel drive control switch at “L4”, the damping effect suitable for
off-road driving will be provided.AVS controls the suspension according to the road and driving conditions.
Selecting an optimum driving mode assists good riding comfort and stabil-
ity.
For driving on a bumpy road
For ordinary driving such as
in the city traffic
For sporty type driving such
as on winding mountain
roads and high speed driving

When driving
LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) CAUTION■
When Active TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control are off
Be especially careful and drive at a speed appropriate to the road conditions. As
these are systems to help to ensure vehicle stability and driving force, do not turn off
Active TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control unless necessary. ■
When the VSC and Trailer Sway Control are activated
The slip indicator light flashes. Always drive carefully.
Reckless driving may cause an accident. Exercise particular care when the indica-
tor light flashes. ■
Replacing tires
Make sure that all tires ar e of the same size, brand, tread pattern and total load
capacity. In addition, make sure that the ti res are inflated to the specified tire pres-
sure level.
The Multi Terrain ABS, Active TRAC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control will not func-
tion correctly if different tire s are fitted on the vehicle.
Contact your Lexus dealer for further info rmation when replacin g tires or wheels.■
Handling of tires and suspension
Using tires with any kind of problem or mod ifying the suspension wi ll affect the driv-
ing assist systems, and may ca use the system to malfunction.

Off-road driving precautions
Always observe the following precautions to minimize the risk of serious personal
injury or damage to your vehicle: ●
Drive carefully when off the road. Do no t take unnecessary risks by driving in
dangerous places. ●
Do not grip the steering wheel spokes when driving off-road. A bad bump could
jerk the wheel and injure your hands. Keep both hands and especially your
thumbs on the outside of the rim. ●
Always check your brakes for effectiveness immediately after driving in sand,
mud, water or snow. ●
After driving through tall grass, mud, rock, sand, rivers, etc., ch eck that there is no
grass, bush, paper, rags, stone, sand, et c. adhering or trapped on the underbody.
Clear off any such matter fr om the underbody. If the vehicle is used with these
materials trapped or adhering to the underbody, a breakdown or fire could
occur. ●
When driving off-road or in rugged te rrain, do not drive at excessive speeds,
jump, make sharp turns, strike objects, etc. This may cause loss of control or vehi-
cle rollover causing death or serious in jury. You are also risking expensive dam-
age to your vehicle’s suspension and chassis.

AVS (adaptive variable suspension system)
The suspension can be switched for improvement in driveability. ( P. 331)■
Break-in schedule
If your vehicle is new or equipped with any new power train components (such as
an engine, transmission, diff erential or wheel bearing), Lexus recommends that you
do not tow a trailer until the vehicle has been driven for over 500 miles (800 km).
After the vehicle has been driven for ov er 500 miles (800 km), you can start tow-
ing. However, for the next 500 miles (800 km), drive the vehicle at a speed of less
than 50 mph (80 km/h) when towing a trai ler, and avoid full throttle acceleration.■
Maintenance ●
If you tow a trailer, your vehicle will require more frequent maintenance due to
the additional load. (See “Owner’s Gu ide”, “Warranty and Services Guide”,
“Owner’s Manual Supplement” or “Warranty Booklet”.) ●
Retighten the fixing bolts of the towing ball and bracket after approximately
600 miles (1000 km) of trailer towing.■
If trailer sway occurs
One or more factors (crosswinds, passing vehicles, rough roads, etc.) can
adversely affect handling of your ve hicle and trailer, causing instability.●
If trailer swaying occurs:
• Firmly grip the steering wh eel. Steer straight ahead.
Do not try to control trailer swaying by turning the steering wheel.
• Begin releasing the accelerator pedal immediately but very gradually to
reduce speed.
Do not increase speed. Do not apply vehicle brakes.
If you make no extreme correction with the steering or brakes, your vehicle and
trailer should stabilize. (if enabled, Traile r Sway Control can also help to stabilize
the vehicle and trailer.)

● Voltmeter continually points higher or lower than normal.
■ Audible symptoms
● Changes in exhaust sound
● Excessive tire squeal when cornering
● Strange noises related to the suspension system
● Pinging or other noises related to the engine
■ Operational symptoms
● Engine missing, stumbling or running rough
● Appreciable loss of power
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
● Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches
