When driving
LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) NOTICE■
When driving the vehicle ●
Do not depress the accelerator and brake pe dals at the same time during driving,
as this may restrain driving torque. ●
Do not use the accelerator pedal or depress accelerator and brake pedals
together to hold the vehicle on a hill.■
When parking the vehicle
Always put the shift lever in “P”. Failure to do so may cause the vehicle to move or
the vehicle may accelerate suddenly if the accelerator pedal is accidentally
depressed. ■
Avoiding damage to vehicle parts ●
Do not turn the steering wheel fully in either direction and hold it there for a long
time.
Doing so may damage the power steering pump. ●
When driving over bumps in the road, driv e as slowly as possible to avoid damag-
ing the wheels, underside of the vehicle, etc.

Operation of the “ENG INE START STOP” switch
When operating the “ENGINE START STOP ” switch, one short, firm press is
enough. If the switch is pressed improp erly, the engine may not start or the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch mode may not change. It is not necessary to press
and hold the switch. ■

■
If the engine does not start
The engine immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. ( P. 119)

The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately. ■
Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes with the shift
lever in P, the “ENGINE START STOP” switch will automatically turn off. However,
this function cannot entirely prevent battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle
with the “ENGINE START STOP” switch in ACCESSORY mode for long periods
of time when the engine is not running. ■

CAUTION■
When starting the engine
Always start the engine while sitting in th e driver’s seat. Do not depress the acceler-
ator while starting the engi ne under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury. ■
Stopping the engine in an emergency
If you want to stop the engine in an emergency while driving the vehicle, press and
hold the “ENGINE START STOP” switch fo r more than 2 seconds, or press it
briefly 3 times or more in succession. ( P. 883)
However, do not touch the “ENGINE START STOP” switch while driving except in
an emergency. Turning the engine off while driving will not cause loss of steering or
braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost. This will make it
more difficult to steer and brake, so you should pull over and stop the vehicle as
soon as it is safe to do so.
NOTICE■
To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the “ENGINE START STOP ” switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION
ON mode for long periods of ti me without the engine running.■
When starting the engine ●
Do not race a cold engine. ●
If the engine becomes difficult to start or stalls frequently, have your vehicle
checked by your Lexus dealer immediately.■
Symptoms indicating a malfunction with the “ENGINE START STOP” switch
If the “ENGINE START STOP” switch seem s to be operating somewhat differently
than usual, such as the swit ch sticking slightly, there may be a malfunction. Contact
your Lexus dealer immediately.

When driving
LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) Driving assist systems To help enhance driving safety and performance, the following systems
operate automatically in response to various driving situations. Be aware,
however, that these systems are supplementary and should not be relied
upon too heavily when operating the vehicle.
■ Multi Terrain ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) Helps to prevent wheel lock when the brakes are applied suddenly, or if
the brakes are applied while driving on a slippery road surface, or in off-
road conditions (such as rough roads, sand and mud).
■ Brake assist Generates an increased level of br aking force after the brake pedal is
depressed, when the system detects a panic stop situation.
■ VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) Helps the driver to control skidding when swerving suddenly or turning on
slippery road surfaces.
■ Active TRAC (Traction Control) Helps to maintain driv e power and prevent the 4 wheels from spinning
when starting the vehicle or a ccelerating on slippery roads.
■ Hill-start assist control Helps to prevent the vehicle from ro lling backwards when starting on an
incline or slippery slope.
■ VGRS (Variable Gear Ratio Steering) Helps to adjust the wheel turning an gle in accordance with the vehicle
speed and steering wheel movement.
■ PCS (Pre-Collision System) (if equipped) P. 357

AVS (adaptive variable suspension system)
The suspension can be switched for improvement in driveability. ( P. 331)■
Break-in schedule
If your vehicle is new or equipped with any new power train components (such as
an engine, transmission, diff erential or wheel bearing), Lexus recommends that you
do not tow a trailer until the vehicle has been driven for over 500 miles (800 km).
After the vehicle has been driven for ov er 500 miles (800 km), you can start tow-
ing. However, for the next 500 miles (800 km), drive the vehicle at a speed of less
than 50 mph (80 km/h) when towing a trai ler, and avoid full throttle acceleration.■
Maintenance ●
If you tow a trailer, your vehicle will require more frequent maintenance due to
the additional load. (See “Owner’s Gu ide”, “Warranty and Services Guide”,
“Owner’s Manual Supplement” or “Warranty Booklet”.) ●
Retighten the fixing bolts of the towing ball and bracket after approximately
600 miles (1000 km) of trailer towing.■
If trailer sway occurs
One or more factors (crosswinds, passing vehicles, rough roads, etc.) can
adversely affect handling of your ve hicle and trailer, causing instability.●
If trailer swaying occurs:
• Firmly grip the steering wh eel. Steer straight ahead.
Do not try to control trailer swaying by turning the steering wheel.
• Begin releasing the accelerator pedal immediately but very gradually to
reduce speed.
Do not increase speed. Do not apply vehicle brakes.
If you make no extreme correction with the steering or brakes, your vehicle and
trailer should stabilize. (if enabled, Traile r Sway Control can also help to stabilize
the vehicle and trailer.)
