2524-4. Refueling
LS600hL_U(OM50E41U)
■When the fuel filler door cannot be opened by pressing the inside switch
●Using the lever to open the fuel filler door may not allow for an adequate reduction
in fuel tank pressure before refueling. To prevent fuel from spilling out, turn the cap
slowly when removing it.
During refueling, fuel may spill out from the filler opening due to air being dis-
charged from inside the fuel tank. Therefore, fill the fuel tank carefully and slowly.
After refueling, turn the fuel tank
cap until you hear a click. Once the
cap is released, it will turn slightly in
the opposite direction.
●If the fuel filler door opener switch cannot
be operated, contact your Lexus dealer to
service the vehicle. In case where refueling
is urgently necessary, the fuel filler door can
be opened using the lever in the trunk.

CAUTION
■When replacing the fuel tank cap
Do not use anything but a genuine Lexus fu el tank cap designed for your vehicle.
Doing so may cause a fire or other incide nt which may result in death or serious
injury.

4-6. Driving tips
■Using Eco drive mode
When using Eco drive mode, the torque corresponding to the acceler-
ator pedal depression amount can be generated more smoothly than it
is in normal conditions. In addition, the operatio n of the air conditioning
system (heating/cooling) will be mini mized, improving the fuel econ-
omy. ( P. 283)
■Use of Hybrid System Indicator
The Eco-friendly driving is possible by keeping the indicate of Hybrid
System Indicator within Eco area. ( P. 103)
■When braking the vehicle
Make sure to operate the brakes gently and in good time. A greater
amount of electrical energy can be retained when slowing down.
■Delays
Repeated acceleration and decelerati on, as well as long waits at traffic
lights, will lead to bad fuel consumption. Check traffic reports before
leaving and avoid delays as much as possible. When encountering a
delay, gently release the brake pedal to allow the vehicle to move for-
ward slightly while avoiding overuse of the accelerator pedal. Doing so
can help control excessive gasoline consumption.
■Highway driving
Control your speed and keep at a constant speed. Also, before stop-
ping at a toll booth or similar, allow plenty of time to release the acceler-
ator and gently apply the brakes. A greater amount of electrical energy
can be retained when slowing down.
Hybrid vehicle driving tips
For economical and ecological drivin g, pay attention to the following
points:

3244-6. Driving tips
LS600hL_U(OM50E41U)
■Air conditioning
Use the air conditioning only when necessary. Doing so can help con-
trol excessive gasoline consumption.
In summer: In high temperatures, use the recirculated air mode. Doing
so will help to reduce the burden on the air conditioner and reduce fuel
consumption as well.
In winter: Because the gasoline eng ine will not automatically cut out
until the gasoline engine and the interi or of the vehicle are warm, it will
consume fuel. Also, fuel consumption can be improved by avoiding
overuse of the heater.
■Checking tire inflation pressure
Make sure to check the tire inflation pressure frequently. Improper tire
inflation pressure can cause poor fuel consumption.
Also, as snow tires can cause large amounts of friction, their use on dry
roads can lead to poor fuel consump tion. Use a tire that is appropriate
for the season.
■Luggage
Carrying heavy luggage can lead to poor fuel consumption. Avoid car-
rying unnecessary luggage. Installing a large roof rack can also cause
poor fuel consumption.
■Warming up before driving
Since the gasoline engine starts up and cuts out automatically when
cold, warming up the engine is unne cessary. Moreover, frequently driv-
ing short distances will cause the engine to repeatedly warm up, which
can lead to poor fuel consumption.

■Split-screen display
Different information can be displayed on the left and right of the
screen. For example, audio, air co nditioning system or fuel consump-
tion information screens can be d isplayed and operated while the map
screen is being displayed.
The large screen on the left of the display is called the “Main Display”,
and the small screen to the righ t is called the “Side Display”.
■Selecting the operation screen
When selecting the “Side Display”, mo ve the Remote Touch knob to the
right until is displayed at the bo undary between the “Main Display”
and the “Side Display”, and then move it further to the right.
When selecting the “Main Display”, move the Remote Touch knob to
the left until is displayed at the boundary between the “Main Dis-
play” and the “Side Display”, and then move it further to the left.
Selecting the “Main Display” will dim the “Side Display”.

3485-3. Using the air conditioning system and defogger
LS600hL_U(OM50E41U)
■Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
In Eco drive mode, the air conditioning system is controlled as follows to prioritize
fuel efficiency:
●Engine speed and compressor operation controlled to restrict heating/cooling
capacity
●Fan speed restricted when automatic mode is selected
To improve air conditioning performanc e, perform the following operations:
●Adjust the fan speed
●Turn off Eco drive mode
The air conditioning control of Eco drive mode can be changed to the same setting
as that used in normal drive mode. (Customizable features P. 564)
■Using the automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically in a ccordance with the temperature setting and
ambient conditions. As a result, the following may occur:
●Immediately after the “AUTO” switch is pressed, the fan may stop for a while until
warm or cool air is ready to flow.
●Cool air may flow to the area around th e upper body when the heater is on.
■Fogging up of the windows
●The windows will easily fog up when the humidity in the vehicle is high. Selecting
“A/C” on will dehumidify the air from the outlets and defog the windshield effec-
tively.
●If you turn “A/C” off, the windows may fog up more easily.
●The windows may fog up if the recirculated air mode is used.
■Outside/recirculated air mode
●When driving on dusty roads such as tunn els or in heavy traffic, set the outside/
recirculated air mode button to the recirculated air mode. This is effective in pre-
venting outside air from entering the vehicl e interior. During cooling operation, set-
ting the recirculated air mode will also cool the vehicle interior effectively.
●Outside/recirculated air mode may automatically switch depending on the tem-
perature setting or the inside temperature.

■When the outside temperature exceeds 75°F (24°C) and the air conditioning sys-
tem is on
●In order to reduce the air conditioning power consumption, the air conditioning
system may switch to recirculated air mode automatically. This may also reduce
fuel consumption.
●Recirculated air mode is selected as a default mode when the power switch is
turned on.
●It is possible to switch to outside air mode at any time by pressing .
■When the hybrid battery cooling system operates
●If the hybrid battery cooling system operat es when the air conditioning is off, a
message will be shown on the multi-information display and the air conditioning will
automatically turn on. ( P. 105)
●The sound of the air flow may change when cool air flows from the rear roof vents
or the air purifier is in operation. This occurs when the hybrid battery is being
cooled and does not indicate a malfunction.
■Automatic mode for air intake control
In automatic mode, the system detects ex haust gas and other pollutants and auto-
matically switches between outside air and recirculated air modes.
When the dehumidification function is off, and the fan is operating, turning automatic
mode on will activate the dehumidification function.
■Micro dust an d pollen filter
●In order to prevent the windshield from fogging up when the outside air is cold, the
following may occur:
• Outside air mode does not switch to (recirculated air) mode.
• The dehumidification function operates.
• The operation cancels after approximately 1 minute.
●In rainy weather, the windows may fog up. Press .
●In extremely humid weather, the windows may fog up.
●The pollens are filtered out even if the mi cro dust and pollen filter is turned off.
■Air purifier
The air purifier will turn on when turn ing the rear air conditioning system on.
■When the outside temperature falls to nearly 32 F (0C)
The dehumidification function may not operate even when “A/C” is selected.
