To start the vehicle:
1. Open the center console storagearea and the storage tray.
2. Place the transmitter in thetransmitter pocket/insert.
3. With the vehicle in P (Park) or N (Neutral) press the brake
pedal and the ENGINE START/
STOP button.
Replace the transmitter battery
as soon as possible.
Battery Replacement
Replace the battery in the
transmitter soon if the REPLACE
BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY
message displays in the DIC.
{Caution
When replacing the battery, do
not touch any of the circuitry on
the transmitter. Static from your
body could damage the
transmitter. To replace the battery:
1. With the key removed, insert a
flat, thin object in center of the
transmitter to separate and
remove the back cover.

2. Lift the battery with a flat object.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Insert the new battery, positiveside toward the back cover.
Replace with a CR2032 or
equivalent battery.
5. Push together the transmitter.
Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped with the remote start
feature, the climate control system
will come on when the vehicle is
started remotely depending on the
outside temperature. The rear defog and heated and
cooled seats, if equipped, may also
come on. See
Heated and Cooled
Front Seats on page 3-9 and
Vehicle Personalization on
page 5-47.
Laws in some communities may
restrict the use of remote starters.
Check local regulations for any
requirements on remote starting of
vehicles.
Do not use remote start if the
vehicle is low on fuel.
The vehicle cannot be remote
started if:
.The key is in the ignition (Key
Access) or the transmitter is in
the vehicle (Keyless Access).
.The hood is not closed.
.There is an emission control
system malfunction and the
malfunction indicator lamp is on. The engine will turn off during a
remote vehicle start if:
.The coolant temperature gets
too high.
.The oil pressure gets low.
The RKE transmitter range may be
reduced while the vehicle is running.

performance of the transmitter. See

Starting the Engine Using Remote
Start
1. Press and release

2. Immediately press and hold/
until the turn signal lamps flash
or for at least four seconds.
When the vehicle starts, the
parking lamps will turn on. The
doors will be locked and the
climate control system may
come on.
The engine will continue to run
for 10 minutes. Repeat
Steps 1 and 2 for a 10-minute
time extension.
Place the ignition in ON/RUN/
START to operate the vehicle.
Extending Engine Run Time
The engine run time can be
extended by 10 minutes, for a total
of 20 minutes, if during the first
10 minutes Steps 1 and 2 are
repeated while the engine is still
running. An extension can be
requested, 30 seconds after
starting.
A maximum of two remote starts,
or a single start with an extension,
is allowed between ignition cycles. The vehicle's ignition must be
turned on and then back off to use
remote start again.
Canceling a Remote Start
To cancel a remote start, do one of
the following:
.Press and hold/until the
parking lamps turn off.
.Turn on the hazard warning
flashers.
.Turn the ignition on and then off.
Door Locks
{Warning
Unlocked doors can be
dangerous.
.Passengers, especially
children, can easily open the
doors and fall out of a moving
vehicle. When a door is
locked, the handle will not
open it. The chance of being

thrown out of the vehicle in a
crash is increased if the
doors are not locked. So, all
passengers should wear
safety belts properly and the
doors should be locked
whenever the vehicle is
driven.
.Young children who get into
unlocked vehicles may be
unable to get out. A child can
be overcome by extreme heat
and can suffer permanent
injuries or even death from
heat stroke. Always lock the
vehicle whenever leaving it.
.Outsiders can easily enter
through an unlocked door
when you slow down or stop
the vehicle. Locking the doors
can help prevent this from
happening.

To lock or unlock the doors from
outside the vehicle:
.PressQorKon the Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
.Use the key in the driver door.
To lock or unlock the doors from
inside the vehicle:
.PressQorKon the power door
lock switch.
.Pushing down the manual lock
knob on the driver door will lock
all doors. Pushing down the
manual lock knob on a
passenger door will lock only
that door.
.Pulling an interior door handle
will unlock the door. Pulling the
door handle again unlatches it.
Keyless Access
If equipped, the RKE transmitter
must be within 1 m (3 ft) of the door
being opened. Press the button on the door handle to open. See
“Keyless Access Operation”
in

Key Cylinder Access
To access the key cylinder, insert
the key into slot on the bottom of
the door handle and pry cover off.
Replace the cover by snapping on
the tabs.

Q(Lock): Press to lock the doors.
K(Unlock): Press to unlock the
doors.

Delayed Locking
When locking the doors with the
power lock switch and a door or the
liftgate is open, the doors will lock
five seconds after the last door is
closed. You will hear three chimes
to signal that the delayed locking
feature is in use.
Pressing the power lock switch
twice will override the delayed
locking feature and immediately lock
all the doors.
This feature will not operate if the
key is in the ignition.
This feature can be programmed
using the Driver Information
Center (DIC). See“Delayed Door
Lock” under Vehicle Personalization
on page 5-47.
Automatic Door Locks
The vehicle may have an automatic
lock/unlock feature. This feature can
be programmed using the Driver
Information Center (DIC). See
Vehicle Personalization on
page 5-47.
Lockout Protection
Keyed Ignition: When locking is
requested with the driver door open
and the key in the ignition, all the
doors will lock and then the driver
door will unlock. This can be
manually overridden by pressing
and holding
Qon the power door
lock switch.
Pushbutton Start: When locking
is requested with the driver door
open and the vehicle is in ACC/
ACCESSORY or ON/RUN/START,
all the doors will lock and then the
driver door will unlock. This can be
manually overridden by pressing
and holding
Qon the power door
lock switch. If Unlocked Door Anti-Lockout is
turned on, the vehicle is off with the
driver door open, and door locking
is requested, all the doors will lock
and only the driver door will unlock.
The Unlocked Door Anti-Lockout
feature can be turned on or off using
the vehicle personalization menus.

Safety Locks
The rear door safety locks prevent
passengers from opening the rear
doors from inside the vehicle.

Press{to activate the safety locks
on the rear doors. The indicator light
comes on when activated.
Press
{again to deactivate the
safety locks.
Doors
Liftgate
{Warning
Exhaust gases can enter the
vehicle if it is driven with the
liftgate or trunk/hatch open,
or with any objects that pass
through the seal between the
body and the trunk/hatch or
liftgate. Engine exhaust contains
carbon monoxide (CO) which
cannot be seen or smelled. It can
cause unconsciousness and even
death.
If the vehicle must be driven with
the liftgate or trunk/hatch open:
.Close all of the windows.
.Fully open the air outlets on
or under the instrument
panel.

.Adjust the climate control
system to a setting that
brings in only outside air and
set the fan speed to the
highest setting. See “Climate
Control Systems” in the
Index.
.If the vehicle is equipped with
a power liftgate, disable the
power liftgate function.

To avoid damage to the liftgate or
liftgate glass, make sure the area
above and behind the liftgate is
clear before opening it.

Manual Liftgate
To open the liftgate, pressKon the
power door lock switch or press
K
on the RKE transmitter twice to
unlock all doors. Press the touch
pad (1) on the underside of the
liftgate handle and lift up.
Press the button (2) above the
license plate to open the liftglass,
or press
btwice quickly on the
RKE transmitter. Do not leave the
liftglass open when raising the
liftgate. There will be a delay in the release
of the liftglass if there is an attempt
to open it while the rear wipers are
in motion.
Use the pull cup to lower and close
the liftgate. Do not press the touch
pad while closing the liftgate. This
will cause the liftgate to be
unlatched.
If equipped with Keyless Access,
the RKE transmitter must be within
1 m (3 ft) of the liftgate to
automatically unlock it. See

The liftgate has an electric latch.
If the battery is disconnected or has
low voltage, the liftgate will not
open. The liftgate will resume
operation when the battery is
reconnected and charged.
Power Liftgate Operation
{Warning
You, or others, could be injured if
caught in the path of the power
liftgate. Make sure there is no one
in the way of the liftgate as it is
opening and closing.
If equipped, the switch is on the
overhead console. The vehicle must
be in P (Park).

The modes are:
.MAX: Opens to maximum
height.
.3/4: Opens to a reduced height
that can be set from 3/4 to fully
open. Use to prevent the liftgate
from opening into overhead
objects such as a garage door or
roof-mounted cargo. The liftgate
can be opened all the way
manuallly.
.OFF: Opens manually only.
To open or close the liftgate, select
MAX or 3/4 mode and then:
.Pressbtwice quickly on the
RKE transmitter until the liftgate
moves.
.Press8on the overhead
console. The driver door must
be unlocked.
.Press the touch pad on the
outside liftgate handle after
unlocking all doors. If equipped
with Keyless Access, a locked vehicle can be opened if the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m
(3 ft) of the touch pad.
.Presslon the bottom edge of
the liftgate next to the latch to
close.
Press any liftgate button, the touch
pad, or
bon the RKE transmitter
while the liftgate is moving to stop it.
Pressing again restarts the
operation in the reverse direction.
The touch pad on the liftgate handle
cannot be used to close the liftgate. Do not manually force the liftgate to
open or close during a power cycle.
The power liftgate may be
temporarily disabled in extremely
low temperatures, or after repeated
power cycling over a short period of
time. If this occurs, the liftgate can
still be operated manually. Select
OFF on the liftgate switch.
If the vehicle is shifted out of
P (Park) while the power function is
in progress, the liftgate will continue
to completion. If the vehicle is
accelerated before the liftgate has
completed moving, the liftgate may
stop or reverse direction. Make sure
the liftgate is closed and latched
before driving.
If the power liftgate support strut
has lost pressure, the turn signals
will flash and a chime will sound
while the liftgate automatically
closes. See your dealer for service
before using the power liftgate.
