failed. The message indicates the location of
the bulb.
IJ-if a rear fog lamp has failed, the indicator
light t urns on to indicate the location on the

Vehicle lights: malfunction
If the message appears, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or lig ht switch.
Drive to you r authorized Aud i dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode whi le they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury.

El Automatic headlights/automatic wipers:
system fault
If the indicator light turns on and this mes ­
sage appears, the light/rain sensor is not
funct ioning correct ly.
For safety reasons the low beams are tur ned
on permanently with the switch in
AUTO.
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switch. You can st ill
control all functions that are independent of
the ra in sensor through the w indshield wiper
lever .
Contact your authorized Audi dealer as soon
as possible to have the problem corrected .
; Adaptive dampers

If the II symbol in the d isplay comes on,

(D-Rain sensor mode . The windsh ie ld wipers
swi tch on once the veh icle speed exceeds ap­
proximate ly 2 mph ( 4 km/h) and it is ra ining.
T he higher t he rain sensor sensit ivity is set
(switch @to the right), the earlier the wind­
shield wipers react to moisture on the w ind­
shield. You can deactivate rain sensor mode in
the MMI, which will then activate interm ittent
mode. Select:

terw ipe funct ion is react ivated the next time
you switch the ignit ion on .
C lea ning the headlights *. The headlight wash ­
er system * operates on ly when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to pos ition ®,
the headlights and the night vision assistant
camera* are washed in intervals .
.&_ WARNING
-The ra in sensor is only des igned to assist
and support the drive r.
It remains entire­
ly the dr iver's respons ibility to monitor
o utside wea ther conditions and to man­
ually activate the wipers as soon as rain
or drizzle reduces visibility through the
w indshield.
- The w indshie ld m ust not be treated with
water -repe llent materials. They can in­
c rease glare under poor visibi lity condi­
tions such as wetness, darkness, or when
the sun is low on the horizon. I n addi­
tion, they can cause the windshield wip­
ers to chatte r.
- Properly functioning windshie ld w iper
blades are required for a clear view and

-In the case of frost, check whether the
windsh ield wiper b lades a re frozen to
t h e windshie ld. Switching on the wind­
s h ield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Prior to using a car wash, the win dsh ield
wipe r system must be switched off (lever
i n position @). This helps to prevent un ­
i ntent ional sw itch ing on and damage to
the windshie ld w iper sys tem .
- Do no t use the wipe rs to cle ar a frosted
window. Using the wipers as a conven­
i ent ice sc raper will destroy t he wiper
b lades .

- The windshie ld wipers are switched off
when the ign it ion is off. Activate the
w indshield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the w ind­
shield wiper lever to any position .
- Worn or d irty windshield wiper blades
result in streaking. This ca n affect the
rai n sensor function. Check your wind­
shield wiper blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozz les of the wind­
shield washe r system a re heated at low
tempe ratu res whe n the ignition is on.
- When stopping temporarily, e .g. at a
t raffic light, the set spe ed of the wind­
shield wipers is automatically reduced by
one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the w indsh ie ld w iper blades when t hey
begin to leave st reaks. Use a soft clo th and
glass cleaner to clean the wi ndshield wipe r
blades.

• Lift the w indshield wiper arm up from the
wi ndshield.
• Press the locking knob

wiper blade. Hold t he wiper blade firm ly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direction of
the arrow .
Attaching th e wiper blade
• Install the new wipe r blade in the retaine r
on the w iper arm @until you hear it cl ick in­
to place on the wiper arm.
• Place the wiper arm back on the windshie ld .
• Turn the service pos ition
off .
A WARNING
-
For your safety, yo u should replace the
wiper blades once or tw ice a year. See your
authorized Audi dealer for rep lacement
blades.
(D Note
- The windshield wiper blades must on ly
be folded away when in the service posi­
tion! Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on the hood or the w indshield wip·
er moto r.
- You should not
move your vehicle or
press the w indshield w iper lever when
the wip er arms are folded away from the w
indshield. The windshield wipers wou ld
move back into their original position
and co uld damage the hood and wind­
shield.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper sys­
tem, always loosen blades wh ich are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers.
- To help prevent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on o r near the
w iper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipe rs by hand.
¢j) Tips
- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto·
matic car washes affect the cleanability
of the windshie ld.
- You can also use the se rvice position, for
example, if you want to protect the
w indshield from icing by using a cover.
- You can not activate the service position
when the hood is open .

General information
What affects braking efficiency?
Operating condi tions and d riv ing hab it s
The brakes on today's automobi les are sti ll
subject to wear, depending largely on operat­
ing conditions and driving habits
c:> A . On
vehicles that are either driven mostly in stop­
and-go city traffic or are driven hard, the brake pads should be checked by your author­
i zed Audi dealer more often than specified in
the
Warr ant y & Maint enan ce bookle t. Failure
to have your b rake pads inspected can res ult
i n red uced brake performance.
On steep slopes, you should use the brak ing
effect of the engine. This way, you prevent un­
necessa ry wea r on the brake system.
If you
must use yo ur brakes, do not ho ld the brakes
down continuously. Pump the brakes at inter ­
va ls.
Moistu re or road salt
Unde r ce rtain conditions, for example, when
driving through wate r or very heavy rain, or
even after washing your vehicle, the braking
effect can be reduced d ue to moisture (or in
freezing conditions ice) on the brake pads . A
few careful brake app lications should dry
off
the brake pads or remove any ice coatings.
When you are driving at higher speeds with
the windshield wipers on, the brake pads will
briefly touch the brake discs in regular inter­
vals so as to improve reaction t ime when brak­
ing on wet surfaces . You the driver w ill not no­
tice anything .
The effectiveness of the brakes can be reduced
when the vehicle is driven on a salt-covered
road and the brakes are not used . Here too,
you should clean
off accumulated salt coat ing
from b rake discs and pads with a few careful
applications of the brake

There may be a tendency for dirt to build up
on the brake pads and corrosion to form on

rosion has formed on the discs, it is adv isable
to clean
off the pads and discs by braking

Malfunctions can occu r in the bra ke system if
the brake fluid level is too low. The brake flu id

Brake booster
The brake booster works with vacuum pres­
su re which is created only whe n the engine is

Brake lining we ar s tatus
Brake lining wear may be checked by visual in­
spection of the condition of the brake pads
through the open ings in the wheel. If neces­
sary, the wheel may be removed fo r thi s in­
spection ¢

-You should perform braking maneuvers
for the purpose of cleaning the brake system only if road conditions permit .
Other road users must not be put at risk -
you may ca use an accident!
- Before descending a steep grade, reduce
speed and sh ift transmission into a lower
gear or lower dr iving range. Do not ride
the brakes or hold the pedal down too long or too often . Th is could cause the
brakes to get hot and diminish braking
efficiency.
- Do not "ride the brakes" by rest ing your
foot on the pedal when you do not intend
to b rake. This may cause the brakes to

Vehicle care and clean ing
General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your
vehicle 's value. It can also be a requirement
when submitting warranty claims for corro ­
sion damage and paint defects on the body .
The required cleaning and care products can
be obtained from your authorized Audi dealer
or a qualified workshop . Read and follow the
instructions for use on the packaging.
A WARNING
-Us ing clean ing and care products incor­
rectly can be dangerous to your hea lth.
- Always store cleaning and care products
out of reach of children to reduce the risk
of poisoning.
@) For the sake of the environment
-Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
- Do not d ispose of leftover cleaning and
care products with household trash .
Car washes
-
The longer that deposits such as insects, bird
droppings, tree sap or road salt remain on the
vehicle, the more the surface can be dam­
aged. High temperatures such as those
caused by sunlight increase the corrosive ef­
fect.
Before washing, wet heavy deposits w ith plen­
ty of water.
Also, wash the underside of your vehicle once road salt stops be ing used for the season.
Pressure washers
When washing your vehicles with a pressure
washer, always follow the operating instruc­
tions provided w ith the pressure washer . Th is
is especially important in regard to the pres ­
sure and spraying distance. Do not aim the
spray directly at seals on side w indows, doors,

the hood, the rear lid or the sunroof* or at
tires, rubber hoses, insulating material, sen­ sors* or camera lenses* . Keep a distance of at
least 16 inches (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washer.
Never use rotary nozzles or high pressure noz­
zles.
The water temperature must not be above
140 °F (60 °C) .
Automatic car washes
Spray off the vehicle before washing.
Make sure that the windows and roof* are
closed and the windshield wipers are
off. Fol­
low instructions from the car wash operator,
especially if there are accessories attached to
your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes .
Only use car washes where the vehicle re­
mains stat ionary and the wash ing equipment
moves around the vehicle when washing and
drying. Car washes that move the vehicle
through the car wash using a chain are not
recommended.
Washing by hand
Clean the vehic le starting from the top and
working down using a soft sponge or cleaning
brush. Use solvent-free cleaning products .
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint
by hand
To avoid damaging the paint when washing,
first remove dust and large particles from
your vehicle. Insects, grease spots and finger­
pri nts are best removed w ith a special cleaner
for matte finish paint .
Apply the product using a microfiber cloth. To
avoid damaging the paint surface, do not use
too much pressure.
Rinse the vehicle thoroughly with water. Then
clean using a neutral shampoo and a soft mi-
crofiber cloth. ..,.
