steering column settings are stored together
with the seat position.

Improper use of steering wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can

- Adjust the steer ing whee l column on ly
when the vehicle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of veh icle control.

- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that the re is a min imum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the

- If phys ica l limi tations prevent you from

- If the steering wheel is aligned with you r
face, the supp lemental drive r's airbag
cannot provide as much protect ion in an
acc ident. A lways make sure that the
steering wheel is aligned with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
t ions to reduce the risk of pe rsonal injury
if the d river 's airbag deploys.
- Never hold the steering whee l at the 12
o'clock posit ion or w ith your hands i nside the steering wheel rim or on the steering

Easy entry feature
Applies to vehicles: with electrically adjustable steering

The easy entry feature makes it easier to en­
ter and exit the vehicle by automatically ad­
justing the steering wheel.

the sta rting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation .
- Never t urn off the engine unti l the vehi­
cle has come to a complete stop.
- The brake booster and power steering
only work when the engine is running . If
the engine is off, you have to use more
force when steering or braking. Because
you cannot steer and brake as you usua l­
ly would, this could lead to crashes and
ser ious injur ies .

heavy engine loads unti l the engine has
reached operating temperature -other ­

- After a cold engine is started, there may
be a brief period of increased noise be­
ca use oil pressure mus t fi rst bu ild up in
the hyd raulic valve adjusters . This is nor­
mal and not a ca use for concern.
- If you leave the vehicle with the ignit ion
switched on, the ignition will switch off
after a certai n pe riod of time. P lease
note tha t electr ica l equipment s uch as
exterior lights wi ll switch off as well
when that happens.

Ste ering lock
T he s teering locks when yo u tur n the engine

and open the d river 's doo r. The locked steer­
ing helps prevent vehicle theft.
Emergency off
If necessary, the engine can be switched off
with the selector lever in the R or D/S posi­
t ion. The engine stops if you press the
I S TAR T ENG IN E ST OP I button at speeds below
6 mph (10 km/ h) .
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine until the vehi­
cle has come to a complete stop.
- The brake booster and power stee ring
only work when the eng ine is r unning . If
the engine is off, you have to use more
force when steering or braking. Because
you cannot steer and brake as you usual ­
ly would, this co uld lead to crashes and

- For safety reasons , you should a lways

the radiator fa n can cont in ue to run for
up to 10 minu tes -even with the ignition
sw itche d off . It can also sw itch on again
after some time i f th e coolant tempera­
ture rises as the result of a heat b uildup
or if the engine is hot and the engine
compartment is additionally heated by
the sun's rays.
(U) Note
Do not stop the engine immediately after
hard o r extended driving. Keep the engine
running for approximate ly two minutes to
prevent excess ive heat bu ild-up .

ISET ! button when driv ing at
speeds be low 20 mph (30 km/h), will au­
tomatically accelerate the vehicle to 20
mph (30 km/h), which is the minimum
speed that can be set.
© Tips
-If you switch the ignit ion or the adaptive
cruise control off, the set speed is erased
from the system memory.
- Th e electronic stabilizat ion contro l (ESC)
and the anti-s lip-regulat ion (ASR) are a u­
tomatically turned on when the adaptive
cruise control is turned on. Both systems
cannot be turned off if the adaptive
cruise contro l is turned on.

Active lane assist
Description
App lies to vehicles: with active lane assist
Active lane assist helps you keep your vehicle
in your lane .
Active lane assist detects lane marker lines
within the limits of the system using a camera
in the windshield . If you are approaching a de­
tected lane marker line and it appears likely
that you w ill leave the lane, the system will
warn you by means of corrective steer ing . T he
d river can over ride the correct ive steer ing at
any time. If the veh icle crosses a line, the d riv­
er is also warned by a light
vibration in the
steering wheel. The vibration warning must be switched on in the MMI for this to happen.
Active lane ass ist is operable when the line
marking the lane is detected on at least one
side of the vehicle .
If the system is in active standby mode and
the turn signa l is activated before driving over
the lane marker line, the warning does not oc­
cur since the system allows for intentional lane changes.
The system is designed for driv ing on free ­
ways and expanded highways and thus works
only at speeds of 40 mph (65 km/h) or more .
If the vehicle is also equ ipped with Audi adap­
tive cruise control*, the corrective steering
will be more specific in regard to the driving
situation . In addition to the lane marker lines,
the system can also take into account other
objects such as guard rails . If they are detect­
ed i n close prox imity to the veh icle, Audi ac­
tive lane ass ist helps prevent the vehicle from
driving too close to them . There is also pass ­
ing assistance. The system does not provide
any corrective steering if it detects that you
are passing another vehicle.
A WARNING , ~
- The system warns the driver that the ve­
hicle is leaving the lane us ing corrective steer
ing. The driver is always responsible
for keeping the vehicle within the lane .
- The system can assist the driver in keep­
ing the vehicle in the lane, but it does
not steer by itself. Always keep your
hands on the steering wheel.
- Corrective steer ing may not occur in cer­
tain situat ions, such as dur ing heavy
brak ing .
- The camera does not recognize all lane
marker lines. Corrective steer ing can only
take p lace on the side of the vehicle
where lane marker lines are detected .
- Other road structures or objects cou ld
possibly be identified un intent ional ly as
lane marker lines . As a res ult, correct ive
steer ing may be unexpected or may not
occ ur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for
examp le by vehicles driving ahead o r by
r ai n, snow, heavy spray or light shining
into the camera. T his can result in act ive
lane assist not detecting the lane marker
lines or detect ing them incorrectly .
- Unde r ce rtain condi tions such as ruts in
the road, a banked roadway or cross­
winds, the co rrective steering alone may
not be eno ugh to keep the vehicle in the
lane.
- For safety reasons, active lane ass ist
must not be used when there are poor
road and/or weather conditions such as
slippery roads, fog, grave l, heavy rain,
snow and the potential for hydroplaning.
Using act ive lane assist under these con­
d itions may increase the risk of a crash.

Instrument cluster indicator light
• Ready:
The indicator light shows that the
system is ready to use . The system can now
warn you if you are about to cross a known
lan e marker line.
• Not ready: The indicator light shows that
the system is turned on but unable to send a
warning. This can be due to the following:
- There is no lane marker line.
- The relevant lane marker lines are not de-
tected (for example, markings in a construc­
t ion zone or because they are obstructed by
snow, dirt, water or backlighting).
- The veh icle 's speed is below the speed need ­
ed to activate it , which is about 40 mph (65
km/h) .
- The lane is narrower than about 8
ft. (2 .5 m)
or wider than 15
ft (4 .5 m).
- The curve is too sharp .

Audi drive select Driving settings
Introduction
Audi drive select makes it possible to experi­
ence different types of vehicle settings in one
vehicle. The driver can select three
Comfort ,
Auto and Dynamic modes in the MMI to
switch between a sporty and a comfortable
driving mode.
You can also adjust the setting according to
your preferences in the
Individual mode . For
example, you can combine settings such as a
sporty engine tuning with comfortable steer­
ing.
A WARNING
Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other accidents and seri­
ous personal injury.
Description
The following systems are affected by drive
select:
Engine and transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
transmission respond quicker or in a more bal­
anced manner to accelerator pedal move ­
ments. In the sporty dynamic mode, the
transmission shifts at higher RPMs.
Air suspension*
The adaptive air suspension/adaptive air sus­ pension sport*
(Air suspension in the MMI) is
an electronically controlled air suspension and
damping system. They are adjusted depend­
ing on the selected driving mode, the driver's
steering, braking and acceleration input and
the road surface, vehicle speed and load. A
sporty setting is generally used in vehicles
with adaptive air suspension sport*.
The vehicle clearance varies depending on the
selected mode and the speed . The
highway setting is activated automatically
when you drive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for
more than
30 seconds in the Auto or Dynamic
mode. The ground clearance is increased auto­
matically if the speed drops below
44 mph
(70 km/h) for more than 120 seconds .
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering ratios. Indirect steering that
moves easily, like the steering in comfort
mode, is best suited to long drives on a high­
way. In contrast, dynamic mode provides sporty, direct steering .
The following applies to vehicles with dynamic
steering* : the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum
steering effort for the driver at all times . This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle
control. At reduced speeds, however, steering
is more direct in order to keep the steering ef­
fort as minimal as possible when the driver is
maneuvering the vehicle. At low and average
speeds, dynamic steering additionally pro­
vides more responsive steering performance.
Adaptive dampers*
The adaptive dampers* use sensors to record
information regarding steering movements,
braking and acceleration operations by the
driver, road surface, driving speed, and load.
This makes it possible to adapt damping to
the driving situation virtually in real time.
Drive select also makes it possible to satisfy
the desire for sporty suspension (Dynamic)
and comfortable suspension (Comfort) with­
out giving up balanced tuning (Auto) .
Sport differential*
As a component of the all wheel drive system
(quattro)

distributes the driving power to the rear axle
depending on the situation. The distribution
of power varies depending on the selected
mode, from balanced (comfort) to agile (dy­
namic). The goal is a high level of agility and

ability to accelerate on curves. The vehicle is
very responsive to steering.
Curve light*
The curve light adapts to driv ing on curves.
The pivot ing action and the light ing are also
adapted to the mode.
Ad apti ve crui se contr ol*
The behavior when accelerat ing can be ad just­
ed from comfortable to sporty, depending on
the dr ive se lect mode . Adaptive cruise control
also responds to the driving behav ior of the
veh icle ahead in a more conservative or sporty
manner .
Engine sound
The sound of the engine is adapted to these­
l ected mode and ranges from subtle to sporty.

-Make sure there is enough clearance
above and below the vehicle when park­
i ng. The height of the vehicle can change
once it is parked d ue to temperature
fluctuations, changes to the load condi­
tions and changes to the driving modes,
which can affect clearance.
- When transporting the vehicle on a car
carrier, train, ship or by other means, on­
l y tie the veh icle down at the running
surface of the tires, which is the outer
circumference. Securing the vehicle at
the axle components, suspension struts
or tow ing eyes is not perm itted because
the p ressure in the air suspension struts
can change d uring transport. The vehicle
may not be se cured s uff ic ient ly if this
happens.

- In some models, the maxim um vehicle
speed can only be reached in the
Auto
and D ynamic modes.
- Se lecting the
Dynami c mode results in
spor ty sh ifting character istics. The S
gear position engages automatically .

- In ve hicles that have dynamic steering*,
operating noise is heard when starting or
stopping the engine. This does not indi­
cate a problem.
Selecting the driving mode
You can choose between Comfort, Auto, Dy­
namic and Individual.

You can change the driving mode when the ve­
hicle is stationary or while driving. If traffic
permits, after changing modes, br iefly take
your foot off the accele rator pedal so that the
recently selected mode is a lso activated for
the engine.
Comfo rt -prov ides a comfort-oriented veh icle
setup and is suited for long drives on h igh­
ways.
Auto -provides an overall comfortable yet dy­
nam ic dr iving feel and is suited for every day
use .
Dynam ic -gives the driver a sporty driving
feel and is suited to a sporty driving style.
