On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp ( MIL) ¢'4 in
the instr ument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system .
T he wa rni ng/indicator light ill uminates when
the ignit io n is switched on and goes out after
the engine sta rts and the id le has stab ilized.
This indicates that the M IL is working proper­
ly .
If the light does not go out afte r th e engine
is started, or illuminates while you are dr iv­
ing, a mal function may exist in the engine sys ­
tem .
If the light illum inates, the catalyt ic con­
verter could be damaged .
Contin ue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing s ustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the cond ition corrected.
Contact your aut horized Audi dea ler.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the compo ­
nents of your emission contro l system. Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been ass igned a code. In case of a mal­
funct ion , the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control module memo ry.

The check light @in the master key provides
information about d ifferent cond itions .
.. The check light comes on briefly once when
a button is pressed, and during an "inquiry"
by the convenience key system .
.. If the check light does not come on, the bat­
tery is dead and has to be rep laced. In addi­
t ion, when the battery is dead the

The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the original.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle.
A computer chip ins ide your key automatically
deactivates the electron ic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the electron ic immo­
bilizer is automatically ac tivated once aga in.
_& WARNING
-
A lways take the key with you when you
l eave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilize r and permi t
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys­
tems such as power window or power sun­
roof leadi ng to serious personal injury.
(D Tips
- The vehicle cannot be started if an una u­
thorized key is used . The vehicle may not
start if another radio device s uch as a key .,..

door is opened . The window will Lower

- After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can still be opened or
closed for about 10 minutes . The power
windows are not switched off until the
driver's door or passenger's door has
been opened.
What to do after a malfunction
The one -touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery has been discon­
nected .
.. Pull and hold the power window switch until
the window is fully closed.
.. Release the switch and then pull it again for
at least one second .
Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage compartment from unauthorized access from the outside.

The vehicle can be driven and locked and un­
locked with the master key. Access to the lug­
gage compartment is blocked from the out­
s ide .

Automatic headlights
You can adjust the following settings in the
Automatic headlights menu:
Headlights a ctivation time -You can adjust if
the head lights switch on Early, Med. or Late
according to the sensitivity of the light sensor.
Audi adaptive light* -You can sw itch adaptive
light On and Off.
Daytime running lights
USA models : You can switc h the dayt ime run­
ning lights on and off.
Canada models: The function cannot be
turned off . It is activated automatica lly each
time the ign ition is switched on. This menu
item is shown "greyed out".
Coming home, Leaving home
The coming home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when yo u switch the
ignition off and open the driver's door. To turn
the function on, select Lights when leaving
car> On .
The leaving home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when you un lock the
vehicle. To turn the funct ion on, select Lights
when unlocking car > On .
The coming home and leaving home functions
only operate when it is dark and the light
switch is in the AUTO position. Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering col­
umn is used to operate the turn signals and
the high beam as well as the headlight flash­
er.

You can adjust the brightness of the instru­
ment and display illumination as well as the

Rear cabin settings*
When th is fu nction is selected, all sett ings for
the rear can be adjusted through the climate
control sys tem in the cockpit. The cl imate

the rea r seat a t the same time. This func tion
switches o ff after a certain period of time or
when one of the dia ls in the cockp it is press­
ed .
Auto recirculation*
The sensit ivity level of the au tomatic rec ircu­
lation mode can be set at v ario us leve ls from
off to sensit ive. The recirculation mode is con­
trolled a utomat ica lly. You must p ress the
I@ FRONT I button if fog forms on the win­
dows.
Footwell temperature
You can ad just the footwe ll temperat ure so
that it is cooler or wa rmer.
Steering wheel heating

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

nate .
.. With the ignition sw itched on, step on the
brake pedal or the accelerator pedal and
press the sw itch C®> at the same time to re­
lease the parking brake. The ind icator lights
in the switch and. (USA models) . (Can­
ada mode ls) in the instrument cluster go
out.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome­
chanica l parking brake. The parking brake is
designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling
unintentionally and replaces the hand brake.
I n addition to the normal functions of a tradi­
tional hand brake , the electromechan ical
parking brake provides various convenience
and safety functions.
When starting from rest
-The integral starting assist helps you when
driving by automatically releasing the park­
ing brake ¢ page 78, Starting from rest .
- When starting on inclines, the starting as-
"' r-1 sist prevents the vehicle from unintentional-a::

Emergency brake function
An emergency brake ensures that the veh icle
can be slowed down even if the normal brakes

Do not press the acce lerator pedal inadver­
tently if the vehicle is stationary but the
engine is running and a gear is selected.
Otherwise the vehicle will start to move immediately and could result in a crash.

ignition switched off, the indicator lights
in the switch and. (USA models)/ .
(Canada models) in the instrument clus­
ter will go out after a certain period of
time.
- Occasional noises when the parking
brake is applied and released are normal
and are not a cause for concern .
- When the vehicle is parked , the park ing
brake goes through a self-test cycle at
regular interva ls . Any associated noises
are normal.
