If the tire pressure monitoring system is not
available, the
Ill ind icator light appears in
the dr iver information system. The
RIJ ind ica­
tor light also blinks for approximate ly one mi­
nutes each time the ignit ion is switched on.
The tire pressure monitoring system cannot be selected in the Infotainment system. The
malfunction could be caused by the following
examples:
- If the message appears at the end of the
adaptation phase, the system cannot detect
the wheels installed on the vehicle. This may
result from one or more wheels being instal­
led without wheel sensors or with incompat­
ible wheel sensors .
- A wheel sensor or another component has
failed .
- Using snow chains can affect the function of
the system because of the shielding effect
of the chains.
- The tire pressure monitoring system is not
available due to a malfunction.
- Transmitters with the same frequency, such
as headphones or remote-controlled devi ­
ces, may cause a temporary system mal­
function due to the strong electromagnetic
field .
The
Ill indicator light turns off once the tire
pressure monitoring system is available again.
I f you cannot correct the malfunction and the
Ill indicator light stays on, drive to an author­
ized Audi dealer or a qualified workshop to
have the malfunct ion corrected.

Do not use commercially available tire
sealants . The electrical components of the
tire pressure monitoring system will no
longer work properly.

Used sealant bottles can be dropped off at
a recycling facility.

- Have the tire sealant replaced every 4 years at a dealership .

repair.

Tire repair consists of the following sections.

• Remove the dust cap from the valve of the

Inflating tire
• Move the switch @~ fig. 207 on the elec­
tric a ir pump
ll to posit ion I. After 5 mi­
nutes, tir e pressure must have reached at
least 1.8 bar.
• Switch the electric air pump off -switch in
position
0. If the required tire pressure of at
l east 1.8 bar has not been reached, follow
the instructions in the section
Re-inflating
tire.
Re-inflating tire
• Remove the hose from the valve and pull the
plug out of the socket.
• Drive the vehicle slow ly 33 feet (10 meters)
backward or forward. This helps to distrib­
ute the sealant better.
• Remove the empty inflation bottle and
screw the hose®~
fig. 206 from the elec­
t ric pump directly onto the va lve.
• Insert the plug@~
fig. 206 into the socket
for the cigarette lighter.
• Switch on the ignition.
• Move the switch @~
fig. 207 on the e lec­
tric air pump
ll to position I. After 5 mi­
nutes, tire pressure must have reached at
least 1.8 bar.
• Switch the electric air pump off -switch in
pos it ion
0 . If the requ ired tire pressure of at
least 1.8 bar has not been reached, it is not
poss ible to make a repa ir with the tire seal­
ant. Seek professional assistance.
Disassembling Tire Mobility System
• Remove the hose from the valve and pull the
plug out of the socket.
• Screw the dust cap onto the valve .
• Place the empty sealant bottle back in the
original packaging and clip it in place under
the floor so that no tire sealant can run out
into the vehicle.
• Place the electric air pump in the luggage
compartment for the time being.

6 minut es.
• Start driving right away so that the sealant
is distributed in the tire .

- Follow the manufacturer 's safety instruc-
tions on the decal for the air pump and
the sealant bottle.
- If a tire pressure of 1.8 bar cannot be
achieved after pumping for 5 minutes,
the t ire is too severely damaged. Do not
continue to dr ive .
- Seek professional ass istance if it is not
possible to repa ir the tire w ith the tir e
sealant.
(D Tips
- Do not operate the electric air pump for
more than 6 minutes without stopping,
otherwise it can overheat . When the air
pump has cooled down, you can continue
to use it.
- If sealant has escaped, allow it to dry,
then you can pee l it off.
Final check
After driving for a short distance, tire pressure must be checked
• After driving for about 10 min utes, stop and
check the tire pressure.
• If tire pressure is sti ll at least 1.3 bar, in­
flate the tire to specif ied pressure (see driv­
er's side B-pillar), drive to the next repair
shop and have the tire and the sealant bot­
tle replaced .
• If tire pressure is less than 1.3 bar, the tire
is too severely damaged . Do not continue to
drive. Seek professional assistance.
A WARNING
If tire pressure is less than 1.3 bar after
driving for 10 minutes, the tire is too se­
verely damaged. Do not continue to drive.

Changing a wheel
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your
own and your passenger's safety when chang­
ing a wheel .
.. After you experience a tire failure, pull the
car well away from moving traffic and try to
reach
level ground before you stop c:> &, .
.. All passengers should leave the car and
move to a safe location (for instance, behind
the guardrail)

.. Engage th e parking brake to prevent your
vehicle from rolling unintentionally

.. Move selector lever to position Pc:> &, .
.. Take the jack out of the luggage compart­
ment

A WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured
while changing a wheel if you do not fol­
low these safety precautions:
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe dis­
tance off the road. Turn off the engine,
turn the emergency flashers on and use
other warning devices to alert other mo­
torists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well
away from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipping off the
jack, always fully set the parking brake
and block the wheel diagonally opposite
the wheel being changed . When one
front wheel is lifted off the ground, plac­ ing the Automatic Transmission in P
(Park) will
not prevent the vehicle from
moving.
What do I do now? 263
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary,
use a sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com­
partment

If you are changing the wheel on a steep
incline, use a rock or similar object to
block the opposite wheel to prevent the
vehicle from moving .
(l) Tips
- Before changing the wheel, you must ac­
tivate the jacking mode, so that the au­
tomatic controls for the Adaptive Air
Suspension* do not make it more diffi­
cult to lift the vehicle with the jack
c:>page265 .
-Obey all laws .
Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel , follow these­
quence described below step -by -step and in
exactly that order.
l. Activate the vehicle jack mode"
c:>page 265.
2. Remove the wheel bolt caps* . For more
details see also
c:> page 264, Wheels with
wheel bolt caps.
3. Loosen the wheel bolts c:>page 264.
4. Locate the proper mounting point for the
jack and align the jack below that point
c:> page 2 65.
5. Raise the car with the jack r::> page 265.
6. Remove the wheel with the flat tire and
t hen in stall the other wheelr::>
page 267 .
7. Tighten all wheel bolts lightly .
8.
Lower the vehicle with the jack .
9 . Use the wheel bolt wrench and
firmly
tighten all wheel bolts c:> page 264.
10. Replace the wheel bolt caps*.

General
This chapter i s intended for trained emer­
gency crews and working personnel who have the necessary tools and equipment to
perform these operations.
Starting by pushing or
towing

Starting with jumper
cables
If necessary, the engine can be started by
connecting it to the battery of another vehi­
cle.
If the engine shou ld fail to start because of a
discha rged o r wea k battery, the battery can be
connected to the battery o f
another vehicle,
using a
pair of jumper cables to start the en­
g ine.
Jumper cables
Use only jumper cables of sufficiently la rge
c ross section to carry the starter c urrent safe­
l y. Refer to the man ufacturer's specifications.

- Alway s shield you r eyes and avoid lean­
ing over the bat te ry whenever possib le.
- A dis ch arged battery c an free ze at tem­
peratures ju st be low 32 °F ( 0 °C ). Befo re

connecting a jumpe r cab le, you must
thaw the fr ozen battery c omp lete ly, ot h­
erwise it could explode.
- Do not allow battery acid to contact eyes
or skin. Fl ush any contacted area with
wate r immediately.
- Improper use of a booster battery to start a vehicle may cause an explosion.
- Vehicle batter ies genera te exp losive gas­
es. Keep spar ks, flame and lighted c iga ­
rettes away from batte ries.
- Do not try to jump start any ve hicle w ith
a low ac id leve l in the battery.
- The vo ltage of the booste r batte ry m ust
a lso have a 12-volt rating. The capacity
(Ah) of the booster battery sho uld not be
lowe r tha n that of the discharged bat­
tery . U se of batte rie s of d iffe ren t voltage
or substantially diffe rent "Ah" rat ing
may c au se an exp losion and persona l in­
JU ry.
- N ever cha rge a fro zen battery. Gas trap­
pe d in the ice may cause a n ex plosion.
- Never cha rge or use a batte ry tha t h as
been fr ozen. T he battery case may have
be weakened.
- Us e of b atter ies of differe nt voltage or
sub stant ia lly diffe ren t ca pa city (Ah) ra t­
i ng may c ause an ex plosion an d injury .
Th e capac ity (Ah) of the booster bat tery
should not be lower than that of the dis ­
charged batte ry .
- Before you chec k any thing in the engine
compa rtment, always read and hee d all

@ Tips
The discharged battery must be properly
connected to the vehicle's electrical sys­
tem. When jump starting or charging the
battery, never connect the negative
ground cable to the battery negative post
because the batte ry manager system must
be able to detect the battery 's state of
charge. Always connect the negative
ground cab le to the negative ground post
of the battery manager control unit.
Use of jumper cables
Make sure to connect the jumper cable
clamps in exactly the order described below!

The procedure described below fo r connecting
jumper cables is intended to provide a jump
start for your vehicle.
Vehicle with discharged battery:
.,. Turn off lights and accessories, move lever
of automatic transmission to N (Neutral) or
P (Park) and set parking brake.
Connect POSITIVE(+) to POSITIVE(+)
(red)
.,. Open the red cover on the positive terminal

1. Connect one end of the red positive cable
on the
jump start bolt c::;, fig. 220 @ (bolt
under the red cover = "positive") of the ve­
hicle to be started @.
2. Connect the other end to the positive ter-
mina l@ of the booster battery@.
Connect NEGATIVE (-) to NEGATIVE (-)
(black)
3. Connect one end of the black negative ca­
ble to the negat ive terminal @ of the
booster battery @.
4. Connect the other end to the
jump start
pin © (bolts with hex head bolt= "nega­
tive") of the vehicle to be started @.
Starting the engine
.,. Start the engine of the veh icle w ith the
booster battery@. Run the engine at a
moderate speed .
.,. Start engine with discharged vehicle battery
@ in the usual manner.
.,. If the engine fails to start, do not keep the
starter cranking for longer than 10 seconds.
Wait for about 30 seconds and then try aga in .
.,. With engine running, remove jumper cables
from both vehicles in the exact
reverse o r­

.,. Close the red cover on the positive term inal.
T he battery is vented to the outside to prevent
gases from entering the veh icle inter ior. Make
sure that the jumper clamps are well connect­
ed with their metal parts in full contact with
the battery terminals.
_& WARNING
To avoid serious personal injury and dam­
age to the vehicle, heed all warnings and
instructions of the jumper cable manufac­
turer. If in doubt, call for road service .
- Jumper cables must be long enough so
that the veh icles do not touch.
