The coming home and leaving home functions
only operate when it is dark and the light switch
is in the AUTO position ¢
page 43, fig. 36.
Auto headlights*
When the light switch is in the AUTO¢ page 43
position, the switch-on point of the lights can be
changed in the automatic driving light function.
Daytime running lights
USA models: You can switch the daytime running
lights
on and off.
Canada models: The function cannot be turned
off. It is activated automatically each time the ig­ nition is switched on.
Travel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illum ination on the s ide of the
road on which you are driving. If you are driving
in a country that drives on the opposite side of
the road from your own country, this will cause
glare for oncoming drivers. To prevent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent light from passing through . For more informa ­
tion, please see your authorized Audi dealer or authorized repair facility.
(0 Tips
When travel mode is activated, a display in
the driver information system indicates this
each time you switch the ignition on.

Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emergen­
cy situation .

When the emergency flashers are on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time. The turn sig­
nal indicator lights
R 1B in the instr ument clus­
ter, as well as the light in the emergency flasher
switch

You can indicate a lane change or a turn when the emergency flashers are switched on by using the
turn signal lever. The emergency flashers stop
temporarily.
The emergency flashers also work when the igni­
t ion is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automatical­
ly if you are in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .
(D Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles coming can see you, or when
- your vehicle has broken down or you are in
an emergency situation, or when
- your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or
if you are towing another vehicle behind
you.

The instrument illum inat ion (for dials and
needles) lights o n when the ignition is switch­
ed on and the vehicle lights are turned off. As
the daylight fades , the illum inat ion of the di­

out comple tely w hen t he ou tside light is very
l ow. This fe ature is me ant to remind yo u to
switc h on the headlights when ou tside light
cond itions become poor.

To help you see the cu rb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mi rror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger 's outside
mirror .
You can adj ust the ti lted mirror surface by turn ­
ing the knob in the desired direction . When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its origina l position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition
off.
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex or spherical*)
increase your field of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and farther away than when seen in a flat mir­
ror .
If you use this mirro r to estimate distan­
ces of following veh icles when changing
lanes, you cou ld es timate incorrectly and
cause an accident .
(D Note
-If the mirror hous ing was moved by force
(fo r example, by running into an object
when maneuvering the vehicle), the m irror
must be folded all the way in using the pow­
er folding function. The mirror housing
must not be moved back into place by hand
because this would impair the function of
the mirror mechanism.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior mirrors in
Li ghts a nd Visio n
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Never fold power fo lding exterior mirrors*
by hand . On ly fold them in and out us ing
the power controls.
@ Tips
- If the power adjusting function malfunc­
tions, the glass in both mirrors can be ad­
justed by pressing on the edge of it by hand.
- The exterior mirror settings are stored with
the memory function*¢
page 57.

A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic dim ­
ming mirrors if the g lass is broken. Electrolyte
flu id can irritate skin, eyes and respiratory
system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to e lectro­
lyte can cause irritat ion to the respiratory
system, especially among people with asth­
ma or other resp iratory conditions. Get
fresh a ir immediately by leaving the vehicle
or, if t hat is not possible, open windows and
doors all the way.

-If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush them
thoroughly with large amounts of clean wa­
ter for at least 15 minutes; medical atten­
tion is recommended .
- If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affected
area with clean water for at least 15 mi­
nutes and then wash affected area with
soap and water; medical attention is recom­
mended . Thoroughly wash affected clothing
and shoes before reuse.
- If swallowed and person is conscious, rinse
mouth with water for at least 15 minutes .
Do not induce vomiting unless instructed to
do so by medical professional. Get medical
attention immediately.
(D Note
Liquid electrolyte leaking from broken mirror
glass will damage any plastic surfaces it
comes in contact with. Clean up spilled elec­
trolyte immediately with clean water and a
sponge.
(D Tips
- Switching off the dimming function of the
inside rear view mirror also deactivates the
automatic dimming function of the exterior
mirrors.
- Automatic dimming for the mirror only op­
erates properly if the sun shade* for the rear
window is not in use or the light striking the
inside mirror is not hindered by other ob­
jects.
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not dim when the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gear is selected.

be pulled out of their brackets in the center of
the vehicle and turned towards the doors@.

You can adjust the settings for the rear sun shade
so the shade retracts automatically when you se­lect the reverse gear. To do this, select the

WARNING
When lowering or raising the sunshade, make
sure there is nothing in its way and that it has
a free path to travel. This could cause person­
al injury.
@ Tips
- Pressing the button rn several times con­
secutive ly can trigger the overload protec·
tion. The sun shade can only be extended/
retracted again after a brief waiting period.
- The rear window sun shade only funct ions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

vehicles with a ra in sensor* the wipers turn on in
the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds approxi ­
mately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivi ­
ty of the rain sensor* is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
moisture on the windshield . In some models, you
can switch ra in sensor mode off and switch inter­
mittent mode on in the MMI* . Select : !CAR I func­
tion button

er assist> Rain sensor.
In intermittent mode ,
you can adjust the interval time using the@
switch.

® -Clean the w indshie ld. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one af­
terwipe operation after several seconds whi le
driv ing. You can switch this function off by mov­
ing the lever to position ® within
10 seconds of
the afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch­
ed on .
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position @, the
headlights are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
--The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver is still respons ible for
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
- The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possib le .
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
driving

- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to the

Seats and storage

The memo ry buttons are located in the driver's

Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the !ON/O FF I button to switch the memo­
ry function on/off. The word
OFF lights up when
the memo ry function is switched off . Seat pro­
files are neither stored nor recalled.
Storing a seat profile
• Press the !SE T! button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button
([I I or ~) briefly . A tone
confirms that the sett ings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ig nit ion is
switch ed off, press the memory button.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory but­
ton until the seat adjustment is comp lete .
.&_ WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat sett ing can only
be recalled when the vehicle is stat ionary -
otherwise you risk having an accident .
- In an emergency the recall procedure can be
cancelled by pressing the
!ON/OFF I switch or
by tapping the memory buttons.

The cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source for the t ire repair kit when abso­
lutely necessary .

Driving
Sw itching the ignition on /off
If you would like to switch the ignition o n wit h­
out starting the engine, fo llow these steps:
• Inse rt the key into the ignition lock.
• Press the key brief ly
wi thout p ress ing the b rake
pedal.
• To sw itch the ignition off , press the key again.
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l loads
are sw itched off temporar ily.
You ca n only remove the key with the ignition
sw itched off .
If the engine should not start immedia tely , the
starti ng process is automatically stopped after a
short time . Repeat sta rting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces - dange r of asp hyxiation.
- Never remove the ignition key from the ign i­
t ion loo k while the vehicle is moving . Other­
wise, the steering lock cou ld sudden ly en­
gage and you would not be able to steer the
vehicle.
- Always ta ke the key with yo u wheneve r you
leave your vehi cle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical eq uipment
s uch as the power windows cou ld be operat­
ed . T his can lead to ser ious injury.
- Never leave ch ildren or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing peop le from escap ing
from the vehicle on their own in the event of an emergency . Depending on the time of
year, people inside the vehicle can be ex­ posed to very high o r very low tempe ra­
t ur es.

Avoid high engine rpm, full throttle and heavy
eng ine loads until the eng ine has reached op­
erati ng temperature - otherwise you risk en­
gine dam age.

ter a ce rtain period of t ime . Pleas e note tha t
ele ct rical eq uipme nt such as e xterior lights
w ill switch off a s well when that hap pens.
Starting the vehicle with the emergency
key
