Maximum Permissible
Inflation Pressure
This number is the greatest
amount of air pressure that
should ever be put in the tire
under normal driving condi
tions.
.&_ WARNING
-Using incorrect or unmatch ed tires and/ or wheels or improper tire and wheel
combinations can lead to loss of control, collision and
serious personal injury.
-Always use tires, rims and wheel bolts that meet the
specifications of original
factory-installed tires or
other combinations that have been specifically ap
proved by the vehicle manu
facturer.
-Tires age even if they are
not being used and can fail
suddenly, especially at high
speeds. Tires that are more
than 6 years old can only be used in an emergency and
then with special care and
at lower speeds.
-Never mount used tires on your vehicle if you are not sure of their "previous
histo
ry." Old used tires may have
been damaged even though
the damage cannot be seen
that can lead to sudden tire
failure and loss of vehicle
control.
-All four wheels must be fit ted with radial tires of the
same type, size (rolling cir
cumference) and the same
tread pattern. Driving with different tires reduces vehi
cle handling and can lead to
a loss of control.
-If the replacement tire is
not the same as the tires
that are mounted on the ve
hicle -for example with win
ter tires - only use the re
placement tire for a short
period of time and drive
with extra care. Refit the normal road wheel as soon
as safely possible.
-Never drive faster than the maximum speed for which
the tires on your vehicle are
rated because tires that are
driven faster than their rat-
ed speed can fail suddenly. ...

A WARNING
Using the wrong snow chains for your vehi
cle or installing them incorrectly can in
crease the risk of loss of control leading to
serious personal injury .
- Snow chains are available in different
sizes. Always make sure to follow the in
struct ions provided by the snow chain
manufacturer .
- When driving with snow chains never
dr ive faster than the speed permitted for
your specific snow cha ins.
- Always observe local regulat ions .
- Remove snow cha ins before driving on
roads not covered with snow to avoid
damaging t ires and wear ing the snow
chains down unnecessar ily .
- Snow chains, wh ic h come into d irect con
tact with the wheel rim, can scratch or
damage it . Therefore, make sure that the
snow chains are suitab ly covered . Check
the position of the snow chains after
driv ing a few yards and correct if neces
sary. Follow the i nstr uctions from the
snow chain manufacturer when doing so.

vehicles with all wheel drive .
Wheel bolts
Wheel bolts must always be tightened to the
corr ect torque.
The design of whee l bolts is ma tched to the
factory insta lled r ims. If d ifferent rims are fit
ted, the correct wheel bo lts with the r ight
l ength and correctly shaped bolt heads must
be used . This ensures that wheels are fitted
secu re ly and that the b rake system functions
correctly . In certain circumstances, you may not use
whee l bolts from a different vehicle -even if it
is the same mode l¢
page 266 .
A WARNING "--
Improperly t ightened or ma inta ined whee l
bo lts can become loose causing loss of
control, a col lision and serious pe rsonal i n
jury .
- Always keep the wheel bo lts and the
threads in the wheel hubs clean so the
wheel bo lts can turn easily and be prop
erly tightened.
- Never g rease or oil the wheel bolts and
the threads in the wheel hubs. They can become loose while driv ing if g reased o r
oiled, even if t igh tened to the specified
torque.
- On ly use wheel bolts that belong to the
rim being installed .
- Never use different wheels bolts on yo ur
veh icle.
- Always maintain the correct t ightening
torque for the wheel bolts to reduce the
risk of a wheel loss. If the tighten ing tor
que of the whee l bolts is too low, they
can loosen and come out when the vehi
cle is moving. If the tightening torq ue is
too high, the wheel bolts and threads
can be damaged and the whee l can be
come loose.
Q) Note
The specified torque for the whee l bolts is
90 ft lbs . (120 Nm) with a tolerance of
± 7,4 ft lbs. (± 10 Nm). Torque wheel bolts
diagonally . After changing a wheel, the
torque must be checked as soon as possi
ble with a to rque wrenc h - preferably by an
autho rized Audi dea le r or qualified wor k
shop .
Low aspect ratio tires
Your Audi is factory -equipped with low aspect
ratio tires. These tires have been thoroughly
tested and been se lected specifically for your
model for their superb performance, road fee l ..,.

The tools ore stored underneath the floor
panel in the luggage comportment.

When you need access to the vehicle too l kit
or jack*, you will need to take out the cover.
The vehicle tool kit includes:
- Tire repair kit (Tire Mobility System)
- Plastic cl ip for removing wheel bo lt caps*
- Alignment p in fo r cha nging the whee l
- Screwdriver with reversible blade
- Tool for chang ing light bulbs
- Reversible bit (reversible Torx bit for chang-
ing light bu lbs)
- Rod for jack
- Jack *
- Lug wrench
- T owing eye
Some of the ve hicle it ems listed above a re
p rov ided on certain models on ly or are opt io n
a l extras.
Before returning the jack * to its place, retract
the jack arm fully .

- Never use the screw driver hex head to
t igh ten whee l bolts, s in ce the bolts can

causing an accident .
- T he factory -supplied ja ck is intended on
ly for your vehicle model. Under no cir
c u mstances should it be used to
lift
heavy vehicles or othe r loads; yo u risk in

- Never start the engine when the vehicle
is raised, wh ich could cause an acc ident.
- Support the vehicle securely wit h app ro
priate stands if work is to be performed
unde rneath the vehicle; otherwise, there
is a potentia l risk for injury.
Tire repair
General and safety pointers
Tire repair is intended only for temporary,
short-term use.

Your vehicle is equipped with a tire repa ir k it,
the
Tire Mobility System (TMS ).
In the event of a tire failure, the TMS is in the
luggage compartme nt under the floor. It con
s ists of the tire sealant and an e lectric air
pump .
U sing
T MS , tire damage caused by foreign
bodies up to abo ut
0.16 inch (4 mm ) in diam
eter can be sea led reliably.
T he foreign object must stay in the tire .
The t ire sealant must not be used:
- for cu ts or pun ctures in t he tire wh ich a re
larger than 0 .16 inch (4 mm)

wh ile changing a wheel if you do not fol
low t hese safety precautions :
-If you have a flat t ire, move a safe dis
tance off the road. Turn off the eng ine,
tu rn the emergency flashers o n and use
othe r warning dev ices to alert o ther mo
torists.
- Make su re that passengers wai t in a safe
place away from the vehi cle and well
away from the road and traff ic.
- T o help p revent the veh icle from mov ing
sudden ly and possibly slipping off the
jack, a lways fully set the parking brake
and block the whee l diagona lly opposite
the wheel being changed with the fo ld
ing chocks or other objects. When one
front wheel is lifted off the ground, plac ing the Automat ic Transm iss ion in "P"
(Park) w ill
not prevent the vehicle from
moving.
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the ground is level and firm. If necessa ry,
use a sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit , the
jack* and the replaced ti re in the luggage
compartment

If you are chang ing the wheel on a steep
incline, use a rock or similar object to
b lock the opposite whe el to prevent the
veh icle from mov ing.

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel , follow these
quence described below step-by-step and in
exactly that order.
l. Remove the w heel bolt cap s* . For more
details see also
c> page 246, Wheels with
wheel bolt caps .
2. Loosen the wheel bolts .:>page 246.
3. Locate the p roper mounting point fo r the
jack and align the jack below that point

4. Lift the car with the jack Q page 247 .
5. Remov e the wheel with the flat tire and
then install the other wheel

6. Tig hten all wheel bolts lightly.

Lower the vehicle with the jack .

A wheel change is not complete without the
doing the following .
~ Always store the vehicle tool kit, t he jack*,
and the rep laced tire in the lugg age com
par tment

~ As soon as possib le, have the t ight ening
torque s
on all wheel bolts checked with a
torque w rench. The correct tightening to r
que is 90 ft lbs. (120 Nm).
~ Have the flat tire replaced as soon as possi
ble.

- If you not ice that the wheel bolts are
corroded and diff icult to turn while
chang ing a tire, they should be replaced
before you check the tightening torque . •

Wheels with wheel bolt caps

The caps must be removed first from the
wheel bolts before the bolts con be un
screwed.

Refitting
• Place the caps over the wheel bolts and
push them back on.
The caps are to protect and keep the wheel
bolts clean . Loosening and tightening the wheel
bolts
The wheel bolts must be loosened before rais

• Install the
wheel bolt wrench over the
wheel bolt and push it down as far as it will
go.
• Take tight hold of the
end of the wrench
handle and turn the wheel bolts

- Do not use force or hurry when changing
a wheel -you can cause the vehicle to slip
off the jack and cause serious personal
injuries.
- Do not loosen the wheel bolts more than
one turn
before you raise the vehicle with
the jack. -You risk an injury.

- Never use the hexagonal socket in the
handle of the screwdriver to loosen or
tighten the wheel bolts.
- If a wheel bolt is very tight, you may find
it easier to loosen by carefully pushing ..,.

Do not lift the vehicle by the sill. Position
the vehicle jack only at the designated lift
ing points on the sill. Otherwise, your vehi
cle will be damaged.
Taking the wheel off/installing a wheel
Follow these instructions step-by-step for
changing the wheel.

After you have loosened all wheel bolts and
raised the veh icle off the ground, remove and
replace the wheel as follows:
Removing the wheel
.,. Remove the topmost wheel bolt completely
with the

The hexagonal socket makes it easier to re
move the wheel bolts from the rim. Care
shou ld be taken when removing the reversible
blade.
(D Note
When removing or installing the wheel,
the rim cou ld hit the brake rotor/ceramic
brake rotor* and damage the rotor. Work
carefully and have a second person to help
you.

- When mounting tires w ith unidirectional
tread design
make sure the tread pat
tern is po inted the right way

-The wheel bolts should be clean and easy
to turn. Check for dirt and corrosion on
the mating surfaces of both the wheel
and the hub. Remove all d irt from these
surfaces before remounting the wheel.
- Do not use the hexagonal socket in the
sc rewdriver handle to loosen or tighten
the whee l bolts.

Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern pointed in the right direction.

When us ing a replacement t ire with a tread
pattern intended for use in a specific direc
tion, please note the fo llowing:
- T he direction of rotation is marked by an
ar
row on th e side of the tire.
- If the replacement tire has to be installed in
t h e incorrect d irection, use the tire only
temporarily since the tire will no t be able to
achieve its optimum performance character
istics with regard to aquaplaning, noise and
wear .
- We recommend that you pay particular at
tention to this fact during wet weather and
that you adjust your speed to match road conditions.
- Replace the flat tire with a new one and
have it installed on your veh icle as soon as
poss ible to restore the handling advantages
of a unid irect ional tire.
