- You are well advised not to keep valua­
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not . Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe.

er's door panel comes on for about 30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
i s a ma lfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system. Have the
malfunction corrected by an authorized
Audi dealership or qualified repair facili­
ty.

Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediate ly to have the

bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can check how many keys are initialised
for yo ur vehicle on the instrument cluster dis­
play. It is displayed wh ile you are setting the
time
c:> page 23. For example, 1/2 means that
one of two keys have been initialised for the.
This allows you to make sure you have re­
ce ived all of the keys when you purchase a
u sed vehicle.
A WARNING

-Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you o r result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle.
- Do not leave children unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­
supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in serious in­
jury .
- Do not remove the key from the ign ition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
umn lock could suddenly engage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.

- The operation of the remote contro l key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip ­

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the following :
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second time to
open the veh icle .
- To prevent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your veh icle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the ene rgy management system gradu­
ally switches off unnecessary conven­
i ence funct ions .
It is possible that you
will not be able to unlock your vehicle us­
ing these convenience functions.

You will f ind a power locking switch in each
door. You can
lock and unlock the vehicle us ­
ing the switches in the driver's or passenger 's
doo r. You can only
lock the vehicle using the
switches in the rear doors. If you lock the ve­ h icle using the power locking switch, please
note the following: -
If a door is open, the vehicle cannot be
locked using the power locking system
sw itch.
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switch illu­
minate when all the doors are closed and
locked .
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the ai rbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically unlock.
A WARNING
-
-The power locking switch works with the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire veh icle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
tive .
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the veh i­
cle, which puts lives at risk. Do not leave
anyone behind in the vehicle, especia lly
children,

Removing the head restraints

Install ing the head restraints
• Slide the posts on the head restraint down
into the guides until you feel the posts click
into place .
• Press the button @ and slide the head re­
stra int all the way down. You should not be
able to pull the head restraint out of the
back rest.
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be pushed
down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied.
_& WARNING
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a chi ld
seat . Install the head restraint again im ­
mediately once the child seat is removed.
Driving without head restraints or with
head restraints that are not properly ad­
justed increases the risk of serious or fa­
tal neck injury dramatically .

sure that you insert it again so it is seated
securely .

Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot
ashes or other hot objects in the ashtray
could set waste paper on fire .

the arm. The arm swings back by itself and
automatically secures the beverage.
Closing cupholders

- Never carry any beverage conta iners with

exactly according to the instructions pro­

- When driving with a roof rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind
resistance can change the vehicle han­
dling and lead to a collision . Always
adapt your driv ing and your speed to the
current conditions .

-Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the veh icle caused by using
roof racks or mount ing structures not
approved by Audi for your vehicle . The
same applies to damage resulting from
i nco rrect roof rack installation .
-Always check the roof rack mountings
and hardware before each trip and dur­
i ng a tr ip to make sure eve rythi ng is se­
cu rely tightened. If ne cessary, retighten
the mo unt ings and check the ent ire sys­
tem from time to time.
- After mounting a roof rac k system, or
when you transport objects on the roof
of your vehicle, the height of the vehicle
is natura lly increased . Be careful when
driving under low br idges or in parking
garages for examp le. This could cause
damage to the load and even the vehicle
i tself .
- Make sure that the open rear lid and the
sunroof do not come into contact w ith
objects on the roof .
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure
any thing on the roof rack is securel y tied
down.

T he max im um perm issible roof weight is
165 lb (75 kg ). The roof we ight is the total of
the weigh t of the roof rack, the at tachments
and the cargo you are carrying . You must a lso
not exceed the maximum load we ight for the
r oof rack you are using.
When using a roo f rack system which has a
lower load carrying capacity , you must not use
up the tota l maximum permiss ible load carry­
ing capac ity specified above. Instead, you
shou ld load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac ­
tu rer of the roo f rack sys tem.

Weak, damaged or imprope r straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
d uring hard braking or in a coll is ion and

- Make sure the roof rack is installed exact­
ly as specif ied above ¢

secur ing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from sh ifting or flying for­

- Items on the roof rack must always be

- The use of a roof rack can negatively af­
fect the way a vehicle hand les . Cargo

will have a greater negat ive influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
g rav ity and overall handling. Always
d rive s lowly, avoid s udden bra king and
maneuvers when transporting ca rgo on
the roof of your vehicle .

- Alw ays che ck whe ther the l atch is f ully
engaged by p ulling the seatback for ­
ward .
- Never allow safe ty belts to be come dam­
aged by being caught in doo r or seat
hardware.
- T orn or frayed safety belts can tear and
damaged belt hardware can break in a
crash. Inspect the be lts periodically.
Belts showing damage to webbing, bind­
ings, buckles, or retractors must be re­
placed .

-If you move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
cou ld damage the head restraints on the
rear seat.
- Slide the be lt guide on the outside safety
belt all the way up before folding the
backrest back forward. Make sure the
seat belt is not pinched or damaged
when the rear seat backrest if folded
back. Other objects should be removed
from the rear seat bench to protect the sea tback from damage.

In a co llision, the laws of physics mean that
even smaller items that are loose in the vehi ­
cle w ill turn into heavy miss iles that can cause
serious injury. Items in the vehi cle pick up k i­
neti c energy wh ich var ie s with the veh icle and
t h e weight of the item. Vehicle speed is the
most sig nificant factor.
For example, in a fronta l collision at a speed
of 30 mph (48 km/h), the forces a cti ng on a
10-lb (5 kg) object are abo ut
20 times the
normal weight of the item. This means t hat
t h e weight of the item wou ld sudden ly be the
ll-
