Setting power locking
In th e radio/MM!*, you can set which doors the
central locking system will unlock .

Single door unlocking /Unl ock door s* -
you can
specify which doo rs unlock whe n you open the ve­
hicle.
- Se lecting
off / All and pressing the~ button o n
the remote con tro l key unlocks the entire veh i­
cle .
- Se lecting
on/ Driver and pressing the~ button
on the remote control key once unlocks on ly the
driver 's door. In vehicles with a conve nience
key*, only the door whose handle you pull will
u nlock . If you press the[@] button twice , the en­
tire vehicle w ill unlock. If you press the [@) but­
ton, the ent ire vehicle will always lock .
Luggage comp. lock/Lock ex terior trunk handle
-If you se lect On , you can no longe r open the
luggage compartment using the rear lid handle
c::> page 35, fig. 25 . In this case, the rear lid can
be opened wi th the ~ button on the master key
c::> page 32, fig . 20 .
Tone when locking -if you select On , a tone w ill
sound w hen you Lock the vehicle.
Auto Loc k/Lock when driving -if you select On,
the entire vehicle will lock automatically when
the speed reaches 9 mph ( 15 km/h).

If the cent ral lock ing system malfunct ions, you
must un lock/Lock the doo rs separately using the
emergency key o r the mechanical key .
Unlocking/locking the driver' s door with the
mechanical key

Locking the front passenger's door with the
mechanical key
The emergency lock is located on the rear side o f
the fro nt passenger 's door. It is only visible when
the door is open .

the way to th e right. ..,.

Opening and closing
-Never leave your vehicle unattended espe­
cially with the rear lid left open. A child
could crawl into the car through the luggage
compartment and pull the lid shut, becom­
ing trapped and unable to get out. To reduce
the risk of personal injury, never let children
play in or around your vehicle. Always keep
the rear lid as well as the vehicle doors
closed when not in use.
- Always ensure that no one is within range of
the rear lid when it is moving, in particular
close to the hinges -fingers or hands can be
pinched.
© Tips
When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can be
opened separately by pressing the button~
on the master key. When you close the rear lid
again, it locks automatically.
Emergency unlocking of the luggage
compartment lid
There is an emergency release for the rear lid.

Trunk escape handle
In case of an emergency, the luggage compart­
ment lid can be opened from the inside using the
trunk escape handle.

The trunk escape handle inside the lugg age com­
partment lid is made of fluorescent material to
glow in the dark.
&_ WARNING
The trunk escape handle is to be used only in
an emergency.
(D Tips
The emergency release lever should never be
used as a handle for closing the luggage com­
partment lid.

The variab le power top storage bay lowers auto­
mat ically when the powe r top opens. To reduce
the risk of damage, make s ure there are no frag­
ile objects w ith in the sto rag e bay's range of mo­
t ion.
Raising the power top storage bay
• Press the trim i n the direction of the arrow to
raise the variable power top storage bay

bay and protected. The power top bay cannot be ra ised when the power top is ope n. The cargo

age bay is not lowe red whe n ope ning t he power
top.
If t h e power top storage bay is b locked by
o bj ects in t he luggage compartment, remove t he
ob jects that are in the way. If the power top stor­
age bay is st ill not lowered automatica lly, you can
lower it manually ¢

Convertible top Cannot be used
This message ap pears if the power top ca nnot
o pen or clo se au tomat ically because of safety
reasons or if there is a mal func tion . T he follow ­
i ng ca uses are possible:
- Vehicle speed too high: The automatic power
t op is deac tiva ted for sa fe ty reasons if the vehi­
cle speed is too high . Reduce t he vehi cle speed
an d try closing/opening the power top again .
-Battery voltage too low: The automa tic powe r
top is deactivated i f the battery charge level is
too low. You can open/close the power top
aga in after starting the engine.
- Rollover protection active: If the powe r top
runs continuously for a long per iod of time, the
overload protection will activate for appro xi­
mate ly 15 to 30 minutes. You can open/close
the power top again after that¢ &.
-Malfunction: Failure of system components is
one poss ible cause for ma lf u nction. The power
top can be operated manually

Convertible top not secure

When activating the central locking, the fuel fi ll­
er flap is automatically un locked or locked . Re­
fue l the vehicle with the ignit ion turned
off.

into the fuel filler neck as far as it will go .
.,. Se lect a medium refuelling rate so that the
nozzle switches off automatica lly when the
tank is full.
P utting the fuel cap back on
.,. After fi lling your tank, tw ist the fuel cap clock-
wise as far as it wi ll go.
.,. Close the fuel filler flap .
To avo id f uel spi lling or evaporating from the fue l
tank always close fuel cap properly and com ­
p letely.
A WARNING
Improper refueling or handling of fue l can
cause fire, exp losion and severe burns.
-
- Fuel is highly flammable and can cause se­
vere burns and other injuries.
- Failure to shut the engine off whi le refuel­
ing and/or to insert the pump nozzle fu lly
into the fuel filler neck could cause fue l to
spray out of f iller neck or to overflow. Fuel
spray and overflow ing fuel can cause a fire.
- Never use a cellular telephone wh ile refuel­
ing. The electromagnetic radiation can
cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and
cause a fire.
- Never get back into your vehicle while refu­
eling. If in exceptional c ircumstances you
must get back in your vehicle while refuel­
ing, make certain that you close the door
and touch meta l to discharge static e lectric­
ity before touching the filler nozzle again.
Fu el and R efu elin g
Static electricity can cause sparks that can
ignite fue l vapors released during refue ling.
- Never smoke or have an open f lame any­
where in or near your vehicle when refueling or filling a portable fuel conta iner .
- For your safety, we strongly recommend
that you do not travel with a portable f uel
container in your veh icle. The container, full
or empty may leak and cou ld cause a fire,
especially in a crash .
- If, under exceptional c ircumstances, you
must transport a portab le fuel container,
please observe the following:
- Never fill a portable fuel container while it
is anywhere in or on the vehicle (for exam­
ple, in the l uggage compartment, or on
the trunk). Static e lectric ity can build up
while filling and can ignite fuel vapors
caus ing a fire .
-Always place a portab le fue l conta iner on
the ground before fill ing .
- Always keep the filler nozzle completely
inside the portable container before and
during f il li ng.
- If filling a portab le container made of
metal, the f iller nozzle must always be in
contact with the container. This will help prevent static electricity from d ischarging
and cause a fi re.
- Never spill fuel inside the vehicle or lug­
gage compartment. Fuel vapors are highly
flammable.
- Always observe local and state/provincial
laws regarding the use, storage and trans­
po rtation of fue l conta iners.
- Make certain the fuel conta iner meets in­
dustry standards (ANSI/ AS TM F852 -86).

If any fuel has sp illed onto the car, it should
be removed immediately to prevent damage
to the pa int.
