you can continue to turn the lights on and off us­
ing the light switch . You can still control a ll func­
tions that are independent of the rain sensor
through the windshield wiper lever .
Contact your authorized A udi dealer as soon as
possible to have the problem corrected.
; Adaptive dampers
Applies to veh icles: w ith Audi drive select and adapt ive damp ·

B Suspen sion : S ystem fault!
If the B symbol in the display comes on, there is
a ma lf u nction in the adaptive dampers. P lease go
t o an author ized Audi dealer or qua lified work ­
shop to have the malfunction repaired .
!-: Sport differential
Applies to vehicles: w ith Audi drive select and sport differen­
tial
Sport differential: Sy ste m fault!
There is a malfunct ion wit h the sport differential.
Drive to yo ur authori zed Aud i dea ler immediately
to have the malfunction corrected .
Sport differential: Overheating
The transmission tempe ratu re has increased sig­
n ifican tly due to the sporty dr iv ing manner. D rive
in a less sporty manner unti l the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indicato r light
switches of.
A WARNING
Contact yo ur authorized Aud i dealer or quali­
fied workshop if the sport differential is faulty
or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir must be per­
formed by trained personnel using the co rrect
oil in orde r to ensure safety .

II Ignition lock defective
There is a malfunct ion in the electron ic ignition
lock . Please go to an authorized Audi dealer or
other qualified workshop to have the malfunction repair ed .

Wheneve r you use the left B o r the right Ill

If one of the tu rn signa l ligh t bulbs bu rn out, the

Driver information
system
Introduction
The Driver information display inside the instru­
ment cluster provides you, the driver, with im­
portant information.

Cent er dis play
With the ignition on, the display in the Driver In­
formation System shows the following informa­
tion :
- CD* inserted or Radio * station set
- Outs ide temperature* : At temperatures below

- Wa rning if one of the doors, front lid o r engine
compartment lid is not closed.

Auto Chec k Control
Some functions and vehicle components are
scanned for their operating status when yo u
switch the ignition on and whi le you are driving.
Malfunctions or required service procedures are
signaled audibly and indicated by red and yellow
illuminated symbols and reminders in the dis­
play.
A WARNING
--- Never rely exclusively on the outside tem­ pe ratu re d isplay to dete rm ine if a road sur­
face is icy or not. Keep in mind that road sur­
faces, espe cially bridges and overpasses,
could be ice covered and slippery even at an
outside temperature above 41 °f (+S °C).
- Always remember, even if the "snowflake"
symbo l (ice warning) does not appear in the
display, black ice cou ld be on the road .
-Always red uce your speed and d rive with
specia l care in cold weather conditions when
the chance of encountering icy road surfaces
increases.
(j) Tips
If the vehicle is stationary, or if yo u are driv­
ing at a very low speed, the temperature
shown in the disp lay might be slightly higher
than the actual outside temperature . This is
caused by the heat being radiated from the
engine.

Opening and closing
Emergency unlocking of the ignition key
In the event of malfunctions in the electrical sys­
tem, it may happen that you cannot remove the
ignition key.

.,. Lock the vehicle using the mechanical key

.,. Have the electrical system inspected by an au­
thorized Audi dealership.

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear lid
or the hood is opened within 60 seconds, the ve­
hicle locks itself again automatically . This feature
prevents the vehicle from being accidentally left
unlocked over a long period of time .

tain doors

On vehicles with automatic transmission, these­
lector lever must be in the P position, otherwise
the vehicle cannot be locked .

(D Tips
-In order to make sure the locking function is
working, you should always keep your eye
on the vehicle to make sure it is properly
locked .
- Do not use the remote control if you are in­
side the car, otherwise you may unintention­
ally lock the vehicle, and then you would set
off the anti-theft alarm when you try to
start the engine or open a door. In case this
happens anyhow, push the unlock button@.
- Use the panic function only if you are in an
emergency situation.

Locking and unlocking with convenience
key

The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked and
locked without operating the master key .

on the remote control key once unlocks on ly the
driver 's door. In vehicles with a conve nience
key*, only the door whose handle you pull will
u nlock . If you press the[@] button twice , the en­
tire vehicle w ill unlock. If you press the [@) but­
ton, the ent ire vehicle will always lock .
Luggage comp. lock/Lock ex terior trunk handle
-If you se lect On , you can no longe r open the
luggage compartment using the rear lid handle
c::> page 35, fig. 25 . In this case, the rear lid can
be opened wi th the ~ button on the master key
c::> page 32, fig . 20 .
Tone when locking -if you select On , a tone w ill
sound w hen you Lock the vehicle.
Auto Loc k/Lock when driving -if you select On,
the entire vehicle will lock automatically when
the speed reaches 9 mph ( 15 km/h).

must un lock/Lock the doo rs separately using the

Locking the front passenger's door with the
mechanical key
The emergency lock is located on the rear side o f
the fro nt passenger 's door. It is only visible when
the door is open .

adapter. Make sure that the Audi rings are fac­
ing up.
.. Press the emergency key in the adapter down
until it latches audibly.
.. Insert the adapter with the emergency key for­
ward into the ignition switch . The engine can
now be started as usual.
Stopping the engine
Applies to vehicles: with ig ni tion lock
.. Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
.. Automatic transmission: Move the selector lev­
er to the P or N position.
.. Press on the ignition key. The engine is turned
off .
.. You can now remove the key.
Steering lock
The steering locks when you remove the ignition
k ey. The locked steering helps prevent vehicle
theft.
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusual circumstances, the
engine can be switched off while the vehicle is
moving. The engine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed . You must use
more force to turn or brake if necessary. Be­
cause you cannot steer and brake as you
usually would, this could lead to crashes
and serious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your vehicle with the selector lever in P. Oth­
erwise, the vehicle could inadvertently roll
away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run for up
to 10 minutes even after you have turned
off the engine and removed the ignition key.
Driving
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the
engine coolant heats up because of intense
sunlight or heat build-up in the engine com­
partment.
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing people from escaping
from the veh icle on their own in the event of
an emergency. Depending on the time of
year, people inside the vehicle can be ex­
posed to very high or very low tempera­
tures.

If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period, heat builds up in the en­
gine compartment after the engine is switch­
ed off -there is a risk of damaging the engine.
Allow the engine to run at idle for about two minutes before switching it off.
Convenience key
Starting the engine

ignition on and starts the engine.

This message appears and a war ning tone sounds
if you open the driver's door when the ignition is
switched on.
No ke y ide ntifi ed
This message appears when the
I STAR T ENGIN E STOP I button is pressed if t here
i s no master key inside the vehicle o r if the sys­
tem does not recogni ze it. For example, the mas­
ter key ca nnot be recognized if it is covered by an
object (e .g . alum inum br ie f case) which
screens
the radio signal. Electronic devices such as cell
phones can also interfere w ith the rad io signa l.
Press br ake pedal to sta rt engine
This message appears if you do not press the
b rake peda l to s tart the engine.
Shift to N or P to start engine
Dr ivi ng
This message appears when attempt ing to start
t h e engine if the se lector lever for the automatic
transmission is not in the P or N position. The en ­
gine can on ly be started w ith the selector in
these positions.
El I s the key in the vehicle?
T his mess age appears if the mas ter key is re­
moved from the vehicle wi th the e ngine runn ing .
If the master key is no longer in the ve hicle, you
cannot switch on the ignition after stopping the
engine and you also cannot start the engine
again . Moreover, you cannot lock the vehicle from
t h e outside with the key.
Shift to P otherwise vehicle can roll away . Door s

if le ve r is not in P.
This message appears for safety reasons along
with a warning signal. It appea rs if the selector
lever for the automatic transmission is not in the
P position when switch ing off the ignition. Move
the selector lever to the P position, otherwise the
vehicle is not secured against rolling away. You
also cannot lock the vehicle us ing the locking
button* on the door handle o r us ing t he remote
key .
Convenience key defe cti ve! Use ign ition lock
This message appears if the engine must be
started or stopped using the ign ition key and not
the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button.
Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking broke replaces
the hand broke.
