32 Opening and closing
Selective unlocking
The doors and rear lid lock when they close.
You can set in the MMI whether
only the driv­
er's door or the entire vehicle should lock
when closing
c::> page 36.
Automatic locking (Auto Lock)
The Auto Lock funct ion locks all doors and the
l uggage compartment lid once the speed has
exceeded approximately 9 mph (15 km/h) .
The car is un locked again once the ignition key
is removed. In addition, the vehicle can be un­
l ocked if the opening function in the power
locking system switch is used or one of the
door handles is pulled. The Auto Lock function
can be turned off or on in the MMI
c::>page36.
In the event of a crash with airbag dep loy ­
ment, the doors automatically unlock to allow
access to the vehicle.
Anti -theft alarm system*
If the anti-theft alarm system detects a vehi­
cle break-in, audio and visual warning signa ls
are triggered .
The anti-theft alarm system turns on auto­ mat ica lly when you lock the vehicle.
It deacti­
vates when un locking using the remote con­
trol key or by touching the sensor on the door
handle (convenience key).
To switch the alarm off, press them button on
the remote control key or convenience key or
switch the ignition on . The alarm also stops
automatically after a certain amount of time.
Turn signals
The turn signals flash twice when you unlock
the vehicle and once when yo u lock the vehi­
cle.
If they do not flash, one of the doors, the lug­
gage compartment lid or the hood is not
lock ed or the ignition is still sw itched on (the
latter applies to vehicles with a convenience
key) .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
The following situat ions prevent you from
locking your remote control key in the vehicle:
- The vehicle does not lock w ith the cent ral
lock ing switc h if the driver's door is open

-On veh icles with a convenience key*, the lug­
gage compartment lid unlocks again after
clos ing if the most recent ly used key is in
the luggage compartment.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remote con­
trol key or convenience key* until all doors and
the luggage compartment lid are closed. This
helps to prevent from locking yourself out ac­
cidentally .
(D Tips
-Do not leave va luab les unattended in the
vehicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door turns on for about 30 seconds
after the vehicle is locked, there is a mal­
function in the power locking or the anti­
theft alarm system*. Have the problem
corrected by an authorized dealer or
qualif ied repair facility.
- The interior monitor ing of the anti-theft
alarm system* only operates correctly if
the windows and the sunroof* are closed.

Child safe ty lock
When the safety button® c::> fig. 2 7 is press­
ed, the~ symbol in the button lights up . The
power w indow switches in the rear doors are
switched off.
A WARNING
- Always remove the ignition key when you
leave your vehicle, even for a short peri­
od of time . This applies particularly when
children remain in the vehicle . Otherwise
the chi ldren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment such as power
windows. The power windows continue
to function unt il the driver 's door or
front passenger's door has been opened .
- Pay carefu l attent ion when closing the
window . It could cause injury by pinch­
ing.
- When locking the veh icle from outs ide,
the vehicle must be unoccupied s ince the

windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.
(D Tips
After turning the ignition off you can s till
open and close the windows for approxi­ mately 10 seconds. The power windows
are not switched off until the driver's door
or front passenger's door has been
opened .
Convenience opening/closing
With the convenience open ing/closing func­
tion, you can centrally and eas ily ope n the
windows and the pano rama sunroof* from the
o utside.
Convenienc e opening
"' Press the open button~ on the remote con ­
trol key u ntil all w indows and the panorama
sunroof* have reached the desired position,

- For security reasons, the windows can
only be opened with the remote control
key at a maximum distance of 2 meters
from the vehicle .
- Pay attention when using the lock cylin­
der to close the windows and the panora­
ma sunroof* so that no one is pinched.
Clos ing stops when the key is moved into
the starting pos ition.
Correcting power window malfunctions
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the
one-touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again .
.. Pull the power window sw itch until the w in­
dow is comp lete ly raised.
.,. Release the switch and pull it again for at
least one seco nd.
Panorama sunroof

The button has two stages. In the second
stage, the roof automatically runs to the end
position (open/closed) when the button is op­
e rated b riefly. The movement can be stopped
by pressing the button .

down briefly to the second lev el or slide the button forward br

A wind deflector integrated in the panorama
s u nroof adapts automatically to the sunroof
pos ition. This reduces wind noise to a mini­
mum i n all panorama sunroof pos itions.
You can still operate the pa no rama s unroof
for about 10 minutes aft er th e ignition is
switched off . T he swi tch is deactivated once
t h e dr iver's o r fron t passenger's door is
opened.
Sun shade
T he sun shade can be opened and closed man­
u ally, depending on the position of the panor­
ama sunroof. The sun s hade can be opened
part ia lly.

Panorama sunroof emergency closing
Applies to vehicles: with pa norama sun roof
If the panorama sun roof detects resistance or
an object in its path while closing, the sunroof
w ill open aga in automatically . If the s unroof
fa ils to close after remov ing the object and af­
ter trying to close a se cond time, you can pe r­
form an eme rgency closing.
"' Within five seconds after the s unroof opens
automatica lly, pull the sw itch until the roof
cl oses.
If you let go of the switch early, the panorama
sunroof w ill open again .

Roof rack
Description and mounting locations
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof luggage rack .

.,. Always read and follow the instructions pro­
vided by the roof rack manufacturer when
insta lling the roof rack system.
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the following:
- Only use roof racks approved for your vehi·
cle. These approved roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system. Add itional
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi original accessories program.
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is only mounted on the designated locations
on the
roof c:;>fig. 53.
-We recommend that you keep the installa·
t ion instructions for your roof rack system
together with your Owner's literature in the
vehicle.
Wh en shoul d th e r oof rack b e re mo ved ?
-Before going through an automatic car wash
(it is best to ask the car wash operator for
advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fue l consump ­
tion, wind noise and to guard against theft.
A WARNING
- Use of an unapproved roof rack or incor·
rect mount ing of an approved roof rack

can cause the roof rack or the items at·
tached to it to fall off the roof onto the
road.
- Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle
can cause a crash and personal injury.
- On ly mount the roof rack on the desig­
nated locations on the roof¢

- The roof rack system must be installed
exactly according to the instruct ions pro·
vided.
- When driving with a roof rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind
resistance can change the vehicle han·
dling and lead to a collision. Always
adapt your driving and your speed to the
current conditions .
(D Note
- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the vehicle caused by using
roof racks or mounting structures not
approved by Aud i for your veh icle. The
same app lies to damage resul ting from
incor rect roof rack insta llation.
- Always check the roof rack mountings
and hardware before each trip and dur­
ing a trip to make s ure everyth ing is se­
curely tightened. If necessary, retighten
the mountings and check the entire sys ­
tem from time to time .
- After mounting a roof rack system, or when you transport objects on the roof of your vehicle, the height of the vehicle
is naturally increased. Be careful when
dr iving under low bridges or in parking
garages for example . This could cause
damage to the load and even the vehicle
itself.
- Make sure the open rear lid and the sun· roof* do not come into contact with the
roof rac k.

Always distribute loads evenly . Make sure
anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down.

The maximum perm iss ible roof we ight is
165 lb (75 kg ). The roof weight is the total of
the we ight of the roof rack, the attachments
and the cargo you are carry ing. You m ust also
not exceed the maximum load weight for the
roof rack you are using.
When us ing a roof rack system which has a
l owe r load carry ing capac ity, you must not use
up the total max imum pe rm issib le load carry ­
i ng capac ity specified above. Instead, you
should load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
turer of the roof rack system.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a collision and
cause se rious personal injury .
- Make sure the roof rack is insta lled exact­
ly as specified above¢
page 59.
-Always use suitable mounting straps for
securing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from shift ing o r fly ing for­
ward.
- Items on the roof rack must always be sec urely mounted.
- The use of a roof rack can negative ly af­
fect the way a vehicle handles . Ca rgo
that is larg e, heavy, bulky, long o r flat
will have a g reater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overal l handling. Always
dr ive slowly, avo id sudden braking and
maneuvers when transporting cargo on
the roof of your vehicle.
- Never exceed the maxim um permissible
load carrying capacity of the roof of your
veh icle, the permissible axle weights and
the permissible total weight of your vehi­ cle ¢
page 265, Weights.
@ For the sake of the env ironment
As a result of the increased wind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
us ing fuel unnecessarily . So
remove the
r oof rack after using it .

Warm and cold
Climate control system
Description
Different systems cou ld be installed.
- manual climate control system* or
- automatic climate control system*
The
clim ate co ntrol system * cools and re­
moves humidity from the air in the vehicle in­
terior. It is the most effective when the win­
dows and panorama sunroof* are closed. If
there is a build-up of heat inside the vehicle,
ventilation can help to speed up the cooling process . For this reason, the windows and
panorama sunroof can be opened from the
outside

The pollutant filter removes pollutants such
as dust and pollen from the air .
A WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents.
-
- For safe dr iv ing it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Completely fami liarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especia lly
how to defog and defrost the windows .
- Never use the windshie ld w iper/w asher
system in freezing weather until you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heat ing and ventilation system . The washer sol
ution may freeze on the wind­
shie ld and reduce visib ility.
@ Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner
has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid further damage and have it
inspected by a q ualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire specia l technical know ledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Aud i
dealer for ass istance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of f uel you use,
you also reduce the amount of pollutants
emitted into the air.
(1) Tips
- To prevent interference with the heat ing
and cooling output and to prevent the
w indows from fogging over, the air in­
take in front of the windshield must be
free of ice, snow or leaves.
- Condensation from the cooling system*
can drip a nd form a puddle of wa ter un­
der the vehicle . This is normal and does
not mean t here is a leak.
- The energy ma nagement system may
switch the seat h eating* or rear window
defroster off temporar ily. These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been resto red.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
w indow. When plac ing items of cloth ing
on the luggage compartmen t cover, en ­
sure t hat the openings are not covered .
