32 Opening and closing
Selective unlocking
The doors and rear lid lock when they close.
You can set in the MMI whether
only the driv­
er's door or the entire vehicle should lock
when closing
c::> page 36.
Automatic locking (Auto Lock)
The Auto Lock funct ion locks all doors and the
l uggage compartment lid once the speed has
exceeded approximately 9 mph (15 km/h) .
The car is un locked again once the ignition key
is removed. In addition, the vehicle can be un­
l ocked if the opening function in the power
locking system switch is used or one of the
door handles is pulled. The Auto Lock function
can be turned off or on in the MMI
c::>page36.
In the event of a crash with airbag dep loy ­
ment, the doors automatically unlock to allow
access to the vehicle.
Anti -theft alarm system*
If the anti-theft alarm system detects a vehi­
cle break-in, audio and visual warning signa ls
are triggered .
The anti-theft alarm system turns on auto­ mat ica lly when you lock the vehicle.
It deacti­
vates when un locking using the remote con­
trol key or by touching the sensor on the door
handle (convenience key).
To switch the alarm off, press them button on
the remote control key or convenience key or
switch the ignition on . The alarm also stops
automatically after a certain amount of time.
Turn signals
The turn signals flash twice when you unlock
the vehicle and once when yo u lock the vehi­
cle.
If they do not flash, one of the doors, the lug­
gage compartment lid or the hood is not
lock ed or the ignition is still sw itched on (the
latter applies to vehicles with a convenience
key) .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
The following situat ions prevent you from
locking your remote control key in the vehicle:
- The vehicle does not lock w ith the cent ral
lock ing switc h if the driver's door is open
c::>page3 5.
-On veh icles with a convenience key*, the lug­
gage compartment lid unlocks again after
clos ing if the most recent ly used key is in
the luggage compartment.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remote con­
trol key or convenience key* until all doors and
the luggage compartment lid are closed. This
helps to prevent from locking yourself out ac­
cidentally .
(D Tips
-Do not leave va luab les unattended in the
vehicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door turns on for about 30 seconds
after the vehicle is locked, there is a mal­
function in the power locking or the anti­
theft alarm system*. Have the problem
corrected by an authorized dealer or
qualif ied repair facility.
- The interior monitor ing of the anti-theft
alarm system* only operates correctly if
the windows and the sunroof* are closed.

Child safe ty lock
When the safety button® c::> fig. 2 7 is press­
ed, the~ symbol in the button lights up . The
power w indow switches in the rear doors are
switched off.
A WARNING
- Always remove the ignition key when you
leave your vehicle, even for a short peri­
od of time . This applies particularly when
children remain in the vehicle . Otherwise
the chi ldren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment such as power
windows. The power windows continue
to function unt il the driver 's door or
front passenger's door has been opened .
- Pay carefu l attent ion when closing the
window . It could cause injury by pinch­
ing.
- When locking the veh icle from outs ide,
the vehicle must be unoccupied s ince the

windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.
(D Tips
After turning the ignition off you can s till
open and close the windows for approxi­ mately 10 seconds. The power windows
are not switched off until the driver's door
or front passenger's door has been
opened .
Convenience opening/closing
With the convenience open ing/closing func­
tion, you can centrally and eas ily ope n the
windows and the pano rama sunroof* from the
o utside.
Convenienc e opening

sunroof* have reached the desired position,

- For security reasons, the windows can
only be opened with the remote control
key at a maximum distance of 2 meters
from the vehicle .
- Pay attention when using the lock cylin­
der to close the windows and the panora­
ma sunroof* so that no one is pinched.
Clos ing stops when the key is moved into
the starting pos ition.
Correcting power window malfunctions
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the
one-touch up and down feature must be acti­
vated again .
.. Pull the power window sw itch until the w in­
dow is comp lete ly raised.
.,. Release the switch and pull it again for at
least one seco nd.
Panorama sunroof

The button has two stages. In the second
stage, the roof automatically runs to the end
position (open/closed) when the button is op­
e rated b riefly. The movement can be stopped
by pressing the button .

down briefly to the second lev el or slide the button forward br

A wind deflector integrated in the panorama
s u nroof adapts automatically to the sunroof
pos ition. This reduces wind noise to a mini­
mum i n all panorama sunroof pos itions.
You can still operate the pa no rama s unroof
for about 10 minutes aft er th e ignition is
switched off . T he swi tch is deactivated once
t h e dr iver's o r fron t passenger's door is
opened.
Sun shade
T he sun shade can be opened and closed man­
u ally, depending on the position of the panor­
ama sunroof. The sun s hade can be opened
part ia lly.

Panorama sunroof emergency closing
Applies to vehicles: with pa norama sun roof
If the panorama sun roof detects resistance or
an object in its path while closing, the sunroof
w ill open aga in automatically . If the s unroof
fa ils to close after remov ing the object and af­
ter trying to close a se cond time, you can pe r­
form an eme rgency closing.
"' Within five seconds after the s unroof opens
automatica lly, pull the sw itch until the roof
cl oses.
If you let go of the switch early, the panorama
sunroof w ill open again .

Climate control system
Description
Different systems cou ld be installed.
- manual climate control system* or
- automatic climate control system*
The
clim ate co ntrol system * cools and re­
moves humidity from the air in the vehicle in­
terior. It is the most effective when the win­
dows and panorama sunroof* are closed. If
there is a build-up of heat inside the vehicle,
ventilation can help to speed up the cooling process . For this reason, the windows and
panorama sunroof can be opened from the
outside

The pollutant filter removes pollutants such
as dust and pollen from the air .
A WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can
cause accidents.
-
- For safe dr iv ing it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densation.
- Completely fami liarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating
and ventilation system and especia lly
how to defog and defrost the windows .
- Never use the windshie ld w iper/w asher
system in freezing weather until you
have warmed the windshield first, using
the heat ing and ventilation system . The washer sol
ution may freeze on the wind­
shie ld and reduce visib ility.
@ Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner
has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid further damage and have it
inspected by a q ualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner re­
quire specia l technical know ledge and
special tools. Contact an authorized Aud i
dealer for ass istance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of f uel you use,
you also reduce the amount of pollutants
emitted into the air.
(1) Tips
- To prevent interference with the heat ing
and cooling output and to prevent the
w indows from fogging over, the air in­
take in front of the windshield must be
free of ice, snow or leaves.
- Condensation from the cooling system*
can drip a nd form a puddle of wa ter un­
der the vehicle . This is normal and does
not mean t here is a leak.
- The energy ma nagement system may
switch the seat h eating* or rear window
defroster off temporar ily. These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been resto red.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
w indow. When plac ing items of cloth ing
on the luggage compartmen t cover, en ­
sure t hat the openings are not covered .

Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with Audi pre sense basic or Audi pre
sense front
Within the limits of the system, pre sense ba­
sic and pre sense front can initiate steps to
protect vehicle occupants in certain danger ­
ous situations.
Critical driving situations can be recognized by
the pre sense front via a network of different
vehicle systems and can take steps to prepare
the vehicle occupants for a potential collision.
The pre sense front works with a radar sensor
and a video camera*.
It also functions within
the limits of the system when adaptive cruise
control* is switched
off.

Audi pre sense basic
Descript ion
Applies to vehicles: with Audi pre sense basic
The function of the pre sense basic is activat­
ed at a speed of 10 mph (30 km/h) or higher.
The following functions can be triggered un­
der certain conditions within the limits of the
system:
- Tensioning of the safety belts (for example,
during heavy braking) : The front safety belts
have reversible belt pretensioners. If a colli­
sion does not occur, the safety belts loosen
slightly and are ready to trigger again .
- Closing the windows and the sunroof* (for
example, when over- or understeering): The
windows and the sunroof" close until there is only a small gap open. Audi drive select:

adapted in dynamic mode.
A WARNING
-The pre sense basic cannot overcome natu- ral physical laws.
It is a system designed to
assist and it cannot prevent a collision. Do not let the increased safety provided
tempt you into taking risks. This could in­
crease your risk of a collision.
- The system can deploy incorrectly due to system-specific limits .
(D Tips
-Certain pre sense basic functions switch
off when ESC is switched off (sport
mode) or when driving in reverse .
- The pre sense basic functions may not be
available if there is a malfunction in the
ESC system or the airbag control mod­
ule .
- Note that with pre sense basic, the rever­
sible safety belt pretensioner on the
front passenger's side deactivates when
the front passenger's a irbag is deactivat­
ed.
Audi pre sense front
Description
Applies to vehicles: with Audi pre sense front or Audi
adapt ive cru ise control
Pre sense front informs you if the distance to
the vehicle ahead falls below the safe distance
for an extended period of time. It can warn of a possible collision and initiate braking ma­
neuvers, within the limits of the system .
When detected in time, the system can assess
dangerous situations where an object ahead
brakes suddenly or if your own vehicle is trav­
eling at a high speed and approaching an ob ­
ject that is moving more slow ly . If detection is
not possible, then pre sense front does not re ­
act.

Caring and cleaning
General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your
vehicle's val ue . It can also be a requirement
when submitting warranty claims for corro­
sion damage and paint defects on the body.
The necessary care products can be obtained
from your a uthorized Audi dea ler . Read and
follow the instructions for use on the packag­
i ng.
A WARNING
- Us ing clean ing and care products incor­
rectly can be dangerous to your hea lth .
- Always store cleaning and care products
out of reach of children to reduce the r isk
of po isoning.

- Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
- Do not d ispose of leftover cleaning and
care products with household trash.
Car washes
T he longer that deposits such as insects, bird
droppings, tree sap or road sa lt rema in on the
veh icle, the more the surface can be dam­
aged . High tempe ratures such as those
caused by sunlight increase the cor rosive ef­
fect .
Before washing, rinse off heavy depos its with
p lenty of water .
Also, was h the underside of your ve hicle once
road salt stops be ing used for the season.
P ressure wash ers
When washing your veh icles w ith a pressure
washer, always fo llow the operating instruc­
tions provided with the pressure washe r. T his
is especially important in regard to the pres ­
sure and spraying d istance. Do not aim the
spray directly at seals on side w indows, doors,
the hood, the rear lid or the sunroof* or at

tires, rubber hoses, insulating material, sen ­
sors * or camera lenses* . Keep a distance of at
l east 16 inches (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a p ressure
washe r.
Neve r use rotary nozzles or high pressure noz­
z les.
T he wate r temperature must not be above
140
°F (60 °() .
Automatic car washes
Spray off the ve hicle before washing.
Make sure that the windows and roof * are
c losed and the winds hield wipers are off . Fol­
l ow instructions from the car wash operator,
especially if there are accessories attached to
your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes .
Washing by hand
Clean the ve hicle starting from the top and
working down using a soft sponge or cleaning
brush . Use solvent -free clean ing products.
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint
by hand
T o avoid damaging the paint when washing,
f irst remove dust and large particles from
your vehicle . Insects, grease spots and finger­
prints are best removed with a spec ial cleaner
for matte finish paint .
Apply t he p rod uct using a microfiber cloth . To
avo id damaging the paint surface, do not use
too much pressure .
Rinse the vehicle thoroughly with water . Then
clean using a neutra l shampoo and a soft mi ­
crofiber cloth .
Rinse the ve hicle thoroughly again and le t it
air dry . Remove any water residue using a
shammy.
Stubborn deposits such as bi rd d roppings o r
t ree sap are best removed w it h ple nty o f w a-
