Function Using the buttons on the remote control vehicle key ⇒ fig. 25
Unlock the vehicle. Press the 0 button.
Lock the vehicle. Press the1button.
Unlock the luggage compart-ment lid. Press the q button

Note: Depending on the central remote control settings, it may be necessary to press the 0 button on the remote control vehicle key twice to unlock all doors and the luggage compartment lid, Volkswagen Information System. If you would like to have these settings changed, please see your authorized Volkswagen dealer or authorized Volkswagen Service Facility.
The vehicle key unlocks or locks the vehicle only when the battery in the remote control vehicle key has enough power, and the remote control vehicle key is within a few yards/meters of the vehicle.
x All turn signals flash once and the horn beeps once to confirm that the vehicle has been locked. The horn beep can be disabled by deactivating the “ATA confirmation” feature. Please see your au-thorized Volkswagen dealer or authorized Volkswagen Service Facility to have this setting adjusted.
x All turn signals flash twice to confirm that the vehicle has been unlocked.
If the turn signals do not flash to confirm locking, one or more doors or the luggage compartment lid is not locked.
If the driver door is open, the vehicle cannot be locked with the remote control vehicle key.
If the vehicle was unlocked with the remote control vehicle key and the door or the luggage compart-ment lid has not been opened within a few seconds, the vehicle is automatically locked again. This feature helps prevent you from leaving the vehicle unlocked unintentionally.
NOTICE
Check to make sure that the windows go down slightly when you unlock the vehicle. Otherwise the windows and seals could be damaged when opening the door.

Acoustic warning when lights are not switched off
In the following situation, a warning chime will sound if you take the key out of the ignition and open the driver door. This is to remind you that lights are still on.
x Light switch in position .
WARNING
Daytime running lights are not bright enough to let you see ahead or be seen by others when it is dark.
x Always switch on the low-beam headlights at dusk or when it is dark and whenever the weather is bad or visibility is poor.
x Never use the daytime running lights to see where you are going. They are not bright enough and will not let you see far enough ahead for safety, especially at dusk or when it is dark. Always switch on the low-beam headlights at dusk or when it is dark.
x The taillights do not come on with the daytime running lights. Unless the taillights are on, a vehicle cannot be seen by others in bad weather, at dusk, or when it is dark.
In cool or humid weather, the insides of the headlights, the rear lights, and turn signals can temporarily fog up. This is normal and does not affect the service life of the vehicle's lighting system.
Lights and vision features

When you move the selector lever to Reverse (R), the static cornering lights on both sides of the vehicle may come on so that you can see the area around the vehicle better when backing up.
The static cornering lights work only when the headlights are on. The static cornering lights do not come on when the headlight switch is in the O position or when the fog lights themselves have been switched on, Switching lights on and off.
WARNING
Crashes and other accidents can happen when you cannot see the road ahead and when you cannot be seen by other motorists.
x Never use daytime running lights (DRL) to see where you are going. DRL are not bright enough to light up the roadway and be seen by other motorists. You will not be able to see far enough ahead for safety, especially at dusk or when it is dark. Always switch on the low-beam headlights at dusk or when it is dark.
x The taillights do not come on when the daytime running lights are switched on. A vehicle without taillights on cannot be seen by others in bad weather, at dusk, or when it is dark.

Instrument panel lighting and headlight range adjustment

Please carry out each step only in the order specified:
Turn signal ⇒ fig. 180 (2) Front fog light / Cornering light (4)
6. Release the connector (1) and pull it off. Use the flat blade of the screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit, if necessary.
Release the connector (3) and pull it off.
7. Turn the bulb holder (2) as far as it goes to the left and pull it out together with the light bulb to the rear.
Turn the bulb holder (4) as far as it goes to the left and pull it out together with the light bulb to the rear.
8. Replace the burned out light bulb with a new bulb of the same type.
9. Insert the bulb holder in the headlight and turn it all the way to the right.
10. Attach the connector (1) to the bulb holder (2). The connector must latch with a “click.” Attach the connector (3) to the bulb holder (4). The connector must latch with a “click.”
11. Slide the two light assemblies together (if necessary) and slip the headlight into the mounts (small arrows) and fold rearward.
12. Tighten the fastening screw ⇒ fig. 179 (1) and (2) with the screwdriver.
13. Beginning at the outside, insert the cover into the bumper opposite the direction of the arrow .
The illustrations show the left headlight. The right headlight is the mirror image.
Different models may have different lights, and the location and design of covers, bulb holders, and bulbs may be in a different location than shown in the illustrations.

Changing the light bulb

7. Unscrew the fastening screws ⇒ fig. 185 A (arrows) with the Phillips screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit
8. Remove the bulb holder from the taillight.
9. Replace the burned out light bulb with a new bulb of the same type B (arrows).
10. Insert the bulb socket into the taillight. Screw the fastening screws A (arrows) with the Phillips screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit
Installing the taillight

11. Carefully insert the taillight into the opening in the body.
12. Hold the taillight with one hand in the installation position and with the other hand, tighten
the taillight fastening screw ⇒ fig. 184 B (1).
13. Check for proper installation and secure fit of the taillight.
14. Plug connector plug B (4) into the bulb socket and push red locking tab B (2) in the direction opposite to the arrow.
15. Replace the side interior trim of the luggage compartment. Reinstall the subwoofer, if necessary
16. Close the luggage compartment lid
Taillights with LEDs have a “standard” light bulb for the turn signal. This bulb can be replaced.
Different models may have different lights, and the location and design of covers, bulb holders, and bulbs may be in a different location than shown in the illustrations.
