Control elements
The Infotainment system is operated
via function buttons, a multifunction
knob and menus that are shown on
the display.
Inputs are made optionally via: ■ the central control unit on the instrument panel 3 8
■ controls on the steering wheel 3 8

Only the most direct ways for menu operation are described in the
subsequent chapters. In some
cases, there may be other options.
Switching the Infotainment
system on or off Press the X knob briefly. After
switching on, the last selected
Infotainment source becomes active.Automatic switch-off
If the Infotainment system is switched
on using the X knob while the ignition
is switched off, it switches off again
automatically after 10 minutes.
Setting the volume Turn the X knob. The current setting
is shown in a pop-up at the bottom of
the screen.
When the Infotainment system is
switched on, the last selected volume
is set, provided that volume is lower
than the maximum start-up volume.
The following can be set separately: ■ the maximum start-up volume 3 20
■ the volume of the traffic announcements 3 20
■ the volume of the navigation messages 3 39.
Auto volume
When auto volume is activated

Switching the Infotainment
system on or off
Press the X VOL knob briefly. After
switching on, the last selected
Infotainment source is active.
Automatic switch-off
If the Infotainment system has been
switched on using the X VOL knob
when the ignition was switched off, it
will switch off again automatically
after 30 minutes.Setting the volume
Turn the X VOL knob. The current
setting is shown on the display.
When the Infotainment system is
switched on, the last selected volume is set, provided that volume is lower
than the maximum start-up volume.

Speed compensated volume When speed compensated volume is
activated 3 86 the volume is
adapted automatically to compensate
for the road and wind noise as you
drive.
Mute
Press the O button (if Phone portal
available: press for a few seconds) to
mute the audio sources.To cancel mute again: turn the X
VOL knob or press the O button
again (if Phone portal available: press for a few seconds).
Volume limitation at high
temperatures
At very high temperatures inside the vehicle the Infotainment system limits
the maximum adjustable volume. If
necessary the volume is decreased
automatically.
Modes of operation Radio
Press the RADIO button to open the
radio main menu or to change
between the different wavebands.
Press the multifunction knob to open
a submenu with options for station
selection.

Incoming callWhen there is an incoming call a
menu is displayed for you to accept or
decline the telephone call.
Select the required option.
Functions during a telephonecall
If you are currently making a
telephone call, press the multifunction
knob to open a submenu.
Various options are available
depending on the situation and range
of functions of the mobile phone:
■ Hang up : disconnect the telephone
connection.
■ Call number : enter a telephone
number to make a second telephone call or perform DTMF
(touch-tone dialling), e.g. for voice
mail or telephone banking.
■ Detach call : detach the connection
to a conference participant in a telephone conference.
■ Merge calls : merge two calls when
there are several active calls.■ Switch calls : switch between calls,
if there are several calls.
■ Mute call : mute a call.
Notice
If the ignition is turned off during a
telephone call the connection
remains active until the telephone
call is terminated.

Installation instructions and operating guidelines
The vehicle specific installation
instructions and the operating
guidelines of the mobile phone and
handsfree manufacturer must be observed when installing and
operating a mobile telephone. Failure to do so could invalidate the vehicle
type approval (EU directive 95/54/
EC).Recommendations for fault-free
operation:
■ Professionally installed exterior antenna to obtain the maximum
range possible,
■ Maximum transmission power 10 watts,
■ Installation of the phone in a suitable spot, consider relevant

Turning off automaticallyIf you turn on the Infotainment system
using the m button while the ignition
switch (vehicle ignition key) is in the off position, the Infotainment systemwill automatically be turned off
10 minutes after the last user input.
Volume control
Turn the VOL control knob to adjust
the volume.
■ Using the steering wheel remote control, press the + and - buttons to
adjust the volume.
■ The current sound volume is indicated.
■ Turning on the Infotainment system
power will set the volume level to its
previous selection (when it is less
than the maximum startup volume).
■ When turning on the power, the maximum startup volume value canbe separately set (when the
previous volume level is less than
the maximum starting volume).
Auto volume control
Once the speed-compensating sound
volume setup starts operating, the
volume will automatically be
controlled according to the vehicle's
speed to offset the noise from the
engine and tyres. (Refer to Settings →
Radio settings → Auto volume
control ).Volume limit at high
temperatures
If the inside temperature of the radio
is very high, the Infotainment system
will limit the controllable maximum
volume.
If necessary, the volume will
automatically decrease.
Tone settings From Tone settings , sound features
can be setup differently according to the FM, AM or DAB radio and each
audio player's functions.

■ Disconnect the connected USBstorage device when the vehicle
ignition is turned off. If the ignition
is turned on while the USB storage
device is connected, the USB
storage device may be damaged or may not operate normally in some
cases.
■ USB storage devices can only be connected to this product for the
purpose of playing music files.
The product's USB terminal should
not be used to charge USB
accessory equipment since the
heat generation using the USB
terminal may cause performance
issues or damage to the product.
■ When the logical drive is separated
from a USB mass storage device,
only the files from the top-level
logical drive can be played for USB
music files. This is why the music
files to be played should be stored
in the top-level drive of the device.
Music files, in particular USB
storage devices, may also not benormally played if an application is
loaded by partitioning a separate
drive inside the USB device.
■ Music files to which DRM (Digital Right Management) is applied
cannot be played.
■ This product can support USB storage devices that are up to
16 Gigabytes in capacity with a limit of 999 files, 512 folders, and
10 stages of folder structure.
Normal usage cannot be
guaranteed for storage devices that
exceed this limit.
Cautions for using USB music files ■ Damaged music files may be cut off
during playback or may not be
played at all.
■ Folders and music files are displayed in the order of Symbol →
Number → Language.
■ A maximum of 64 characters can be recognised for folder or file
names written in the Joliet file
system.About MP3 (WMA) music files
■ The MP3 files that can be played are the following:
◆ Bit rate: 8kbps ~ 320kbps
◆ Sampling frequency: 48kHz, 44.1kHz, 32kHz (for
MPEG-1)
24kHz, 22.05kHz, 16kHz (for
MPEG-2)
■ This product displays MP3 (WMA) files with the mp3, .wma (lower
case letters) or .MP3 or .WMA
(capital letters) file name
extensions.
■ This product can display ID3 tag (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4)
information about album, artist, etc. for MP3 files.
■ The file/folder names that can be used according to the storage type
are the following, including the four
character file name extension
(.mp3):

controls are used to play iPod music
files.

Press the button repeatedly when the
iPod is connected to select the iPod
play mode.

current item or current mode.

Connecting the iPod player
Connect the iPod device in which the
music files are stored to the USB
connection terminal.
■ The iPod product models that are connected/supported by this
product are the following:
◆ iPod 2G Nano/iPod 3G Nano/ iPod 4G & 5G Nano
◆ iPod 120GB & 160GB Classic
◆ iPod 1G, 2G, & 3G Touch
◆ iPhone 3G & 3GS
■ Only connect the iPod to this product with connection cablessupported by the iPod products.
Other connection cables cannot be
used.
■ In some cases, the iPod product may be damaged if the ignition is
turned off when it is connected to
the product.
When the iPod product is not being used, keep it separately from this

■ Once the product finishes reading the information on the iPod device,
it will automatically play from track
1 or the previously played track.
■ If a non-readable iPod device is connected, then the relevant errormessage will appear and the
product will automatically switch to
the previously used function or the FM radio function.
If the iPod device to be played is
already connected, repeatedly press
the AUX button to select the iPod
player.
■ It will automatically play from the previously played point.
■ The playback functions and the information display items of the
iPod player used with this product
may be different from the iPod in terms of play order, method, andthe information displayed.
Afterwards, the functions to play the
iPod are operated similarly to CD/
MP3 playback.
Log-off the iPod playback
To end the playback, press the
RADIO/BAND or the CD button to
select other functions.
Using the iPod Menu
From the iPod Menu , the instructions
for Shuffle songs /Repeat /Search...
(including Audiobooks and
Composers ) are similar to the CD/
MP3 player's CD menu; only the Eject
iPod item has been added. Refer to
each item of CD/MP3 for use.iPod Menu → Eject iPod
From the iPod mode, press the
multifunction knob to display the iPod
Menu .
Turn the multifunction knob to move
to Eject iPod , and then press the
multifunction knob to display the
message notifying you that it is safe
to remove the device.
Separate the iPod device from the
USB connection terminal.
