2404-5. Using the driving support systems
PRIUS +_OM_OM47888E_(EE)■
Automatic cancelation of vehicle -to-vehicle distance control
Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control driving is automatically canceled in the fol-
lowing situations:
● Actual vehicle speed falls below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
● VSC is activated.
● The sensor cannot operate correctly because it is covered in some way.
● The windshield wipers are operating at high speed (when the wiper switch is
set to the AUTO mode or the high speed wiper operation position).
If vehicle-to-vehicle distance control driving is automatically canceled for any
other reason, there may be a malfunction in the system. Contact any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
■ Automatic cancelation of constant speed control
The cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in the following situ-
ations:
● Actual vehicle speed is more than approximately 16 km/h (10 mph) below
the set vehicle speed.
At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
● Actual vehicle speed falls below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
● VSC is activated.
■ Radar sensor and grille cover
Always keep the sensor and grille cover clean to ensure that the vehicle-to-
vehicle distance control operates properly. (Some obstructions, such as
snow, ice and plastic objects, cannot be detected by the obstruction sensor.)
Dynamic radar cruise control (vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode) is
canceled if an obstruction is detected. (Constant speed control mode can be
used.)
■ Warning lights, warning messages and buzzers for dynamic radar cruise
control
Warning lights, warning messages and buzzers are used to indicate a system
malfunction or to inform the driver of the need for caution while driving.

WARNING
■ When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the engine compartment. Doing so may
cause the electrical components etc. to catch fire.
■ When cleaning the windshield (vehic les with rain-sensing windshield
wipers)
● When the upper part of the windshield where the raindrop sensor is
located is touched by hand
● When a wet rag or similar is held close to the raindrop sensor
● If something bumps against the windshield
● If you directly touch the raindrop sensor body or if something bumps into
the raindrop sensor
■ Precautions regarding the exhaust pipe
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust pipe to become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipe until it has
cooled sufficiently, as touching a hot exhaust pipe can cause burns.
Set the wiper switch to off.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the wip-
ers may operate unexpectedly in the fol-
lowing situations, and may result in
hands being caught or other serious inju-
ries and cause damage to the wiper
blades.

Indicates a malfunction in the shift control systemIn this situation, there is a possibility that the
parking lock mechanism will not work. When
parking, park the vehicle on a flat surface and
apply the parking brake securely. Also, it may
not be possible to turn the power switch off. If
this happens, applying the parking brake will
enable the switch to be turned off. A buzzer
also sounds.
→ Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional.
Indicates a malfunction in the hybrid system
A buzzer also sounds.
→ Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place
and contact any authorized Toyota dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
Indicates that the hybrid battery (traction battery)
is low
A buzzer also sounds.
→ When stopping the vehicle for a long
period of time, shift the shift position to P.
The battery cannot be charged with the
shift position in N.
(If equipped)
Indicates that the radar cruise control sensor is
dirty or covered with ice
A buzzer also sounds.
→ Clean the sensor.
(If equipped)
Indicates that the dynamic radar cruise control
system is unable to judge vehicle-to-vehicle dis-
tance
A buzzer also sounds.
→ If the windshield wipers are on, turn them
off or set them to either intermittent or slow
mode.
