The tachometer
1
» Fig. 19 on page 28 or » Fig. 20 on page 28 shows the ac-
tual engine speed per minute.
The beginning of the red scale range of the tachometer indicates the maxi-
mum permitted engine speed of a driven-in and operating warm engine.
You should shift into the next highest gear before the red scale of the revolu- tion counter is reached or select mode D on the automatic gearbox.
The gear recommendation is important to note in order to maintain the opti-
mum engine speed » page 39.

The display » Fig. 22 provides information about the engine coolant tempera-
ture.
The display only works if the ignition is switched on.
Cold range
The pointer in the left of the scale indicates that the engine has not yet
reached its operating temperature. Avoid high speeds, full throttle and high
engine loads. This prevents possible damage to the engine.

High temperature range
The coolant temperature is too high if the pointer reaches the red area of the
scale.
CAUTION
■ Additional headlights and other attached components in front of the air inlet
impair the cooling efficiency of the coolant.■
Never cover the radiator - there is a risk of the engine overheating.

The display provides information on the fuel level in the container.
The display only works if the ignition is switched on.
The fuel tank has a capacity of about 45 litres.
The reserve zone is indicated by the red area of the scale » Fig. 23 -

displaying only the last two segments of the scale » Fig. 23 -
in the magnify-
ing glass.
The warning light lights up when the fuel level reaches the reserve range
» page 35 .
CAUTION
Never drive until the fuel tank is completely empty! The irregular supply of fuel
can cause misfiring. This can result in considerable damage to parts of the en-
gine and the exhaust system.Note■ After filling up, it can occur that during dynamic driving (e.g. numerous
curves, braking, driving downhill and climbing a steep hill) the fuel gauge indi-
cates approx. a fraction less. When stopping or during less dynamic driving, the
fuel gauge displays the correct fuel level again. This is not a fault.■

The warning lights in the instrument cluster indicate certain functions or
faults.
Some warning lights can be accompanied by acoustic signals and messages in
the display of the instrument cluster.
After switching on the ignition, some warning lights light up briefly as a func-
tion test.
If the tested systems are OK, the corresponding warning lights go out a few
seconds after switching on the ignition or after starting the engine.
Warning lights in the display

minate along with some of the warning lights in the list with the warning
lights

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine WARNING■Ignoring illuminated indicator lights and related messages or instructions
in the instrument cluster display may lead to serious personal injury or
damage to the vehicle.■
If you have to stop for technical reasons, then park the vehicle at a safe
distance from the traffic, switch off the engine and activate the hazard
warning lights system » page 63. The warning triangle must be set up at
the prescribed distance - observe the national legal provisions when doing
so.
■
The engine compartment of your car is a hazardous area. While working in
the engine compartment, be sure to observe the following warnings
» page 149 , Engine compartment .
Handbrake

illuminates - the hand brake is applied.
An acoustic signal will sound if you drive the vehicle above 5 km/h while the
handbrake is still on.
Release the handbrake!

Stop the vehicle, switch off the engine, and check the level of the brake fluid.
WARNING■ If warning light illuminates simultaneously with warning light
» page 33 , Anti-lock braking system (ABS) , do not continue your
journey! Seek help from a specialist garage.■
A fault to the ABS system or the braking system can increase the vehi-
cle's braking distance – there is a risk of an accident occurring!
Seat belt warning light
Read and observe
on page 32 first.
illuminates - the driver or front passenger has not fastened the seat belt.
At a speed of more than approximately 30 km/h the warning light
flashes
and an audible warning sounds at a time.
If the seat belt is not fastened by the driver or front passenger during the next
approx. 2 seconds, the warning signal is deactivated and the warning light
lights up permanently.
Power Steering / steering lock (engine start push-button)
Read and observe
on page 32 first.
Fault in the power steering
illuminates - this indicates a complete failure of the power steering and the
steering assist has failed (significantly higher steering forces).
illuminates - this indicates a partial failure of the power steering and the
steering forces can be greater.
Seek help from a specialist garage.
Steering lock defective (engine start push-button)
An audible signal sounds as a warning.
flashes
Steering lock faulty. Stop!
STOP VEHICLE STEERING FAULTY
Park the vehicle, and
stop driving . After switching off the ignition, it is no
longer possible to lock the steering, to activate the electrical components (e.g.

quired.
Disconnecting the vehicle battery
If the vehicle's battery has been disconnected and reconnected, the indicator
light
comes on after switching on the ignition.
The warning light should go out after driving a short distance.
If, after the motor is restarted and a short drive, the indicator light does not go
out, there is a system error.

the ASR is fully functional again.
Disconnecting the vehicle battery
If the vehicle's battery has been disconnected and reconnected, the indicator
light comes on after switching on the ignition.
The warning light should go out after driving a short distance.
If, after a short drive, the indicator light does not go out, there is a system er-
ror.
