The SmartKey now functions as follows:
X To unlock the driver's door: press the
000E button once.

The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as
follows:
X To unlock the driver's door: touch the
inner surface of the door handle on the
driver's door.
X To unlock centrally: touch the inner
surface of the front-passenger door handle.
X To lock centrally: touch the outersensor
surface on one of the door handles.
X To restore the factory settings: press
and hold down the 000Eand000D buttons
simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the battery chec klamp
flashes twice ( Ypage 85). Mechanical key
General notes If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the SmartKey, use the
mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door or the trunk lid, the
anti-thef talarm system will be triggered
(Y page 78). There are several ways to tur
noff the alarm:
X To turn the alarm off with the
SmartKey: press the000Eor000D button
on the SmartKey.
or
X Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
or
X To disarm the alarm with KEYLESS-GO:
press the Start/Stop button in the ignition
lock. The SmartKey must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The SmartKey must be outside the
vehicle.

SmartKey battery
Important safety notes G
WARNING
Batteries contain toxic and corrosive
substances. If batteries are swallowed, it can
result in severe health problems. There is a
risk of fatal injury.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children. If
a battery is swallowed, seek medical attention
immediately.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the batteries replaced at a qualified specialist
workshop.
Checking the battery X
Press the 000Dor000E button.
The battery is working properly if battery
check lamp 0002lights up briefly.
The battery is discharged if battery check
lamp 0002does not light up briefly.
X Change the battery (Y page 85).
i If the SmartKey battery is checked within
the signal reception range of the vehicle,
pressing the 000Dor000E button:
R locks or
R unlocks the vehicle
i You can get a battery at any qualified
specialist workshop. Replacing the battery You require a CR 2025 3 V cell battery.

palm until battery 0023falls out.
X Insert the new battery with the positive
terminal facing upwards. Use a lint-free

Problems with the SmartKey

the mechanical key. The SmartKey is faulty.

X Have the SmartKey checked at a qualified specialist workshop. You can no longer lock

using KEYLESS-GO. The SmartKey battery is discharged or nearly discharged.

necessary (Y page 85).
If this does not work:
X Lock (Y page 90) or unlock (Y page 90) the vehicle using
the mechanical key. There is interference from a powerful source of radio waves.
X Lock (Y page 90) or unlock (Y page 90) the vehicle using
the mechanical key. KEYLESS-GO is malfunctioning.
X
Lock/unlock the vehicle using the remote control function of
the SmartKey.
X Have the vehicle and SmartKey checked at a qualified specialist
workshop.
If the vehicle can also not be locked/unlocked using the remote
control function:
X Lock (Y page 90) or unlock (Y page 90) the vehicle using
the mechanical key.
X Have the vehicle and SmartKey checked at a qualified specialist
workshop. You have lost a
SmartKey. X
Have the SmartKey deactivated at a qualified specialist
workshop.
X Report the loss immediately to the vehicle insurers.
X If necessary, have the locks changed as well. SmartKey

If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could:
R open the doors, thus endangering other
people or road users.
R get out and disrupt traffic.
R operate the vehicle's equipment.
Additionally, children could set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:
R release the parking brake.
R shifting the automatic transmission out of
park position P
R Start the engine.
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children or animals unattended in the vehicle. Always keep the SmartKey out of
reach of children.

to prolonged exposure to extreme heat or
cold, there is a risk of injury, possibly even
fatal. Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.
You should preferably place luggage or loads
in the cargo compartment. Observe the

the battery is discharged or if the side
windows have iced up. It will then not be

X Switch on the hazard warning lamps
(Y page 138).
i When towing with the hazard warning
lamps switched on, use the combination
switch as usual to signal a change of
direction. In this case, only the turn signals
for the desired direction flash. After
resetting the combination switch, the
hazard warning lamps start flashing again.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal and keep it depressed.
X Shift the automatic transmission to
position N.
X Release the brake pedal.
X Release the parking brake. Transporting the vehicle
! You may only secure the vehicle by the
wheels, not by parts of the vehicle such as
axle or steering components. Otherwise,
the vehicle could be damaged. The towing eye can be used to pull the vehicle
onto a trailer or transporter for transporting
purposes.

Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Shift the automatic transmission to
position N.
As soon as the vehicle has been loaded:
X Prevent the vehicle from rolling away by
applying the parking brake.
X Shift the automatic transmission to
position P.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 0in the
ignition lock and remove the SmartKey
from the ignition lock.
X Secure the vehicle. Notes on 4MATIC vehicles
! Vehicles with 4MATIC must not be towed
with either the front or the rear axle raised,
as doing so will damage the transmission.
If the vehicle has transmission damage or
damage to the front or rear axle, have it
transported on a transporter or trailer.
In the event of damage to the electrical
system
If the battery is defective, the automatic
transmission will be locked in position P. To
shift the automatic transmission to position
N, you must provide power to the vehicle's
electrical system in the same way as when
jump-starting (Y page 334).
Have the vehicle transported on a transporter
or trailer. Tow-starting (emergency engine
starting)
! Vehicles with automatic transmission
must not be started by tow-starting. This
could otherwise damage the transmission. 338
