Adding engineoil
GWARNING
If engineoil comes intocontactwithhot
componentsintheenginecompartment, it
may ignite. There isariskoffireand injury.
Makesurethatengineoil is notspilled next
to the filler neck. Let the enginecool down
and thoroughly clean the engineoil off the
componentsbefore starting the engine.
HEnvironmental note
When adding oil, take care not to spill any. If
oil enters the soil or waterways, it is harmful
to the environment.
!Only use engineoils and oil filtersthat
have been approved for vehicles with a
servicesystem. You can obtainalist of the
engineoils and oil filterstested and
approved in accordance with the
Mercedes-Benz Specificationsfor Service
Productsatany Mercedes-Benz Service
center.
Damage to the engineorexhaust system is
caused by the following:
Rusing engineoils and oil filtersthat have
not been specifically approved for the
servicesystem
Rreplacing engineoil and oil filtersafter
the interval for replacementspecified by
the servicesystem has been exceeded
Rusing engineoil additives.
!Do not add too much oil. adding too much
engineoil can result in damage to the
engineortothe catalytic converter. Have
excess engineoil siphoned off.
Example: engineoil capXTurn cap counter-clockwise and remove
it.
XAdd engineoil.
If the oil level is at or below the MIN mark
on the oil dipstick, add 1.1 US qt(1.0 liter)
of engine oil.
XReplace cap on the fillerneck and turn
clockwise.
Ensurethatthe cap locks into place
securely.
XCheck the oillevel againwith the oil
dipstick (Ypage 307).

GWARNING
The engine cooling system is pressurized,
particularly when the engine is warm. When
opening the cap, you could be scaldedbyhot
coolantspraying out. There isarisk of injury.
Let the enginecool down before openingthe
cap. Wear eye and hand protection when
openingthe cap. Open the cap slowly half a
turn to allow pressure to escape.

Maintenance and care
The tire pressure monitor hasayellow
warning lamp in the instrument cluster for
indicatingapressure loss or malfunction.
Whether the warning lamp flashes or lights up
indicates whetheratire pressure is too low or
the tire pressure monitor is malfunctioning:
Rif the warning lamp is lit continuously, the
tire pressure on one or more tires is
significantly too low. The tire pressure
monitor is not malfunctioning.
Rif the warning lamp flashes for around a
minute and then remains lit constantly, the
tire pressure monitor is malfunctioning.
If the tire pressure monitor is malfunctioning,
it may take more than ten minutes for the tire
pressure warning lamp to inform you of the
malfunction by flashing for approximately one
minute and then remaining lit. When the
malfunction has been rectified, the tire
pressure warning lamp goes out afterafew
minutes of driving.
The tire pressure values indicated by the on-
board computer may differ from those
measured atagas station withapressure
gauge. The tire pressures shown by the on-
board computer refer to those measured at
sea level. At high altitudes, the tire pressure
values indicated byapressure gauge are
higher than those shown by the on-board
computer.Inthis case, do not reduce the tire
pressures.
The operation of the tire pressure monitor can
be affected by interference from radio
transmitting equipment (e.g. radio
headphones, two-way radios) that may be
being operated in or near the vehicle.

monitor automatically detects new wheels or
new sensors. As long asaclear allocation of
the tire pressure value to the individual
wheels is not possible, theTire Pressure

instead of the tire pressure display. The tire
pressures are already being monitored.
iIf an emergency spare wheel is mounted,
the system may continue to show the tire
pressure of the wheel that has been
removed forafew minutes. If this occurs,
note that the value displayed for the
position where the spare wheel is mounted
is not the same as the current tire pressure
of the emergency spare wheel.
