Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area in
front of yourvehicle with camera,which is
mounted at the top of the windshield. Lane
Keeping Assist detects lane markings on the
road and warns you before you leave your
lane unintentionally.
If you have chosen the functionDisplay
Unit Speed-/Odometer:(Ypage 229)and
selected the display unitkmin the on-board
computer, Active Lane Keeping Assist
supports you fromaspeed of 60 km/h.If the
milesdisplay unit is selected, the assistance
range begins at 40 mph.
Awarning may be given ifafront wheel
passesoveralane marking. It willwarn you
by means of intermittent vibration in the
steering wheelfor up to 1.5 seconds.
Switching on Lane Keeping Assist
XSwitch on Active Lane Keeping Assist using
the on-board computer; to do so, select
StandardorAdaptive(Ypage 229).
If you drive at speedsabove 40 mph
(60 km/h) and lane markings are detected,
the lines in the assistance graphics display
(Ypage 227) are shown in green. Lane
Keeping Assist is ready for use.
Standard
IfStandardis selected, no warning vibration

The brightness of the indicator/warning
lamps is adjusted automatically accordingto
the ambient light.
Visual and acoustic collision warning
If you switch on the turn signals to change
lanes andavehicle is detected in the side
monitoring range, you receiveavisual and
acoustic collision warning. You then hear a
double warning toneand red warning
lampflashes. If the turn signal remains on,
detected vehicles are indicated by the
flashing of red warning lamp.There are no
further warning tones.
Course-correcting brake application
GWARNING
Acourse-correctingbrake application cannot
alwayspreventacollision. There isarisk of
an accident.
Always steer, brake or accelerate yourself,
especially if Active Blind Spot Assist warns
you or makesacourse-correcting brake
application. Always maintainasafe distance
at the sides.
If Active Blind Spot Assist detectsarisk of a
lateral collision in the monitoring range, a
course-correcting brake application is carried
out. This is meant to assist you in avoiding a
collision.
Ifacourse-correcting brake application
occurs, red warning lampflashes in the
exterior mirror andadual warning tone
sounds. In addition, the display shown in the
lower image appears in the multifunction
display.
In very rare cases, the system may make an
inappropriate brake application. An
inappropriate course-correcting brake
application may be interrupted at any time if
you steer slightly in the opposite direction or
accelerate, for example.
The course-correcting brake application is
available in the speed range between
20 mph (30 km/h) and 120 mph (200 km/h).
Either no braking application, oracourse-
correcting brake application adapted to the
driving situation occurs if:
Rthere are vehicles or obstacles, e.g. crash
barriers, located on both sides of your
vehicle.
Ravehicle approaches you too closely at the
side.
Ryou have adoptedasporty driving style with
high cornering speeds.
Ryou clearly brake or accelerate.
Radriving safety system intervenes, e.g.
ESP®or PRE-SAFE®Brake.
RESP®is switched off.
Raloss of tire pressure oradefectivetire is
detected.
Switching on Active Blind Spot Assist
XMake sure that the radar sensor system
(Ypage 232) and Active Blind Spot Assist
(Ypage 228) are activated in the on-board
computer.

Lane Keeping Assist detectslane markings on

Important safetynotes
If you fail to adapt your driving style, Active
Lane Keeping Assist can neither reduce the
risk of accidentnor override the laws of
physics. Active Lane Keeping Assist cannot
take into account road, weather or traffic
conditions. It cannot detect possible road and
traffic conditions. Active Lane Keeping Assist
is only an aid. You are responsible for the
distance to the vehicle in front,for vehicle
speed, for braking in good time and for
staying in your lane.
Active Lane Keeping Assist cannot
continuously keep your vehicle in its lane.
GWARNING
Active Lane Keeping Assist cannot always
clearly detect lane markings.
In such cases, Active Lane Keeping Assist
can:
Rgive an unnecessary warning and then
makeacourse-correcting brake application
to the vehicle
Rnot giveawarning or intervene
There isarisk of an accident.
Always pay particular attention to the traffic
situation and keep within the lane, especially
if Active Lane Keeping Assist alerts you.

The system may be impaired or may not
function if:

insufficient illumination of the road, or due
to snow, rain, fog or spray
Rthere is glare, e.g. from oncoming traffic,

GWARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured sufficiently, they could slip, tip
over or be flung around and thereby hit vehicle
occupants.There isarisk of injury,
particularly in the eventofsudden braking or
asuddenchange in direction.
Always store objectssothat they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggageor
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey.
GWARNING
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the
trunk lid is open when the engine is running,
especially if the vehicle is in motion. There is
arisk of poisoning.
Always switch off the engine before opening
the trunk lid. Never drive with the trunk lid
open.
The handling characteristics ofaladen
vehicle are dependent on the distribution of
the load within the vehicle. For this reason,
you should observe the following notes when
transportingaload:
RNever exceed the maximum permissible
gross vehicle weight or the gross axle
weight rating of the vehicle (including
occupants). The values are specified on the
vehicle identification plate on the B-pillar of
the driver's door.
RThe trunk is the preferred place to carry
objects.
RPosition heavy loads as far forwards as
possible and as low down in the trunk as
possible.
RThe load must not protrude above the
upper edge of the seat backrests.
RAlways place the load against the rear or
front seat backrests. Make sure that the
seat backrests are securely locked into
place.
RAlways place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
RUse the cargo tie down rings and the parcel
nets to transport loads and luggage.
RUse cargo tie-down rings and fastening
materials appropriate for the weight and
size of the load.
RSecure the load with sufficiently strongand
wear-resistant tie-downs. pad sharp edges
for protection.

Checking tire pressures manually
To determine and set the correct tire
pressure, proceed as follows:
XRemove the valve cap of the tire that is to
be checked.
XPress the tire pressure gauge securely onto
the valve.
XRead the tire pressure and compare it with
the recommended value on the Tire and
Loading Information placard (Ypage 338).
XIf the tire pressure is too low, increase it to
the recommended value.
XIf the tire pressure is too high, release air
by pressing down the metal pin in the valve.
Use the tip ofapen, for example. Then,
check the tire pressure again using the tire
pressure gauge.
XScrew the valve cap onto the valve.
XRepeatthese steps for the other tires.
Tire pressureloss warning system
(Canada only)
General notes
While the vehicle is in motion, the tire
pressure loss warning system monitors the
set tire pressure using the rotational speed of
the wheels. This enables the system to detect
significant pressure loss inatire. If the speed
of rotation ofawheel changes asaresult of
aloss of pressure,acorresponding warning
message will appearinthe multifunction
display.
You can recognizethe tire pressure loss
warning by theRun Flat Indicator
Active Press 'OK' to Restartmessage
which appears in theServ.menu of the
multifunction display. Further information on
the message displaycan be found under
"Restarting the tire pressure loss warning
system" section (Ypage 342).
Important safety notes
The tire pressure warning system does not
warn you of an incorrectly set tire pressure.
Observe the notes on the recommended tire
pressure (Ypage 338).
The tire pressure loss warning does not
replace the need to regularly check the tire
pressure. An even loss of pressure on several
tires at the same time cannot be detected by
the tire pressure loss warning system.
The tire pressure monitor is not able to warn
you ofasudden loss of pressure, e.g. if the
tire is penetrated byaforeign object.Inthe
event ofasudden loss of pressure, bring the
vehicle toahalt by braking carefully. Avoid
abrupt steering maneuvers.
The function of the tire pressure loss warning
system is limited or delayed if:
Rsnow chains are mounted on your vehicle's
tires.
Rroad conditionsare wintry.
Ryou are driving on sand or gravel.

one or more tires has dropped suddenly
and the tires must be checked.
Observe the instructions and safety notes in
the display messages in the "Tires" section
(Ypage 258).
iIf the wheel positions on the vehicle are
rotated, the tire pressures may be
displayed for the wrong positions for a
short time. This is rectified afterafew
minutes of driving, and the tire pressures
are displayed for the correctpositions.
Restarting the tire pressuremonitor
When you restart the tire pressure monitor,
all existingwarning messages are deleted and
the warning lamps go out. The monitor uses
the currently set tire pressures as the
reference values for monitoring. In most
cases, the tire pressure monitor will
automatically detect the new reference
values after you have changed the tire
pressure. However, you can also define
reference values manually as described here.
The tire pressure monitor then monitors the
new tire pressure values.
XSet the tire pressure to the value
recommended for the corresponding
driving situation on the Tire and Loading
Information placard on the B-pillar on the
driver's side (Ypage 338).
Additional tire pressure values for different
loads can also be found on the tire pressure
table on the inside of the fuel filler flap
(Ypage 338).
XMake sure that the tire pressure is correct
on all four wheels.
XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position
2in the ignition lock.
XPress the\norbutton on the
steeringwheel to select theServ.menu.
XPress theorbutton to select
Tire Pressure.
XPress thebutton.
The multifunction display shows the
current tire pressure for each tire or the
Tire pressures will be displayed

After driving forafew minutes, the system
checkswhether the current tire pressures
are within the specified range. The new tire
pressures are then accepted as reference
values and monitored.
If you wish to cancel the restart:

The tire pressure values stored at the last
restart will continue to be monitored.
Loading the vehicle
Instruction labels for tires and loads
GWARNING
Overloaded tires can overheat, causing a
blowout. Overloaded tires can also impair the
steering and driving characteristics and lead
to brake failure. There isarisk of accident.
Observe the load rating of the tires. The load
rating must be at least half of the GAWR of
your vehicle. Never overload the tires by
exceeding the maximum load.
Two instruction labels on your vehicle show
the maximum possible load.
(1) The Tire and Loading Information placard
is on the B-pillar on the driver's side. The
Tire and Loading Information placard

Total load limit

number of seats in the vehicle.
Changingawheel
Flat tire
You can find information on whattodointhe
event ofaflat tire in the "Breakdown
assistance" section (Ypage 321).
Information on driving with MOExtended tires
in the event ofaflat tire can be found under
"MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
characteristics" (Ypage 321).
Vehicle with emergency sparewheel:in
the event ofaflat tire, the emergencyspare
wheel is mounted as described under
"Mountingawheel" (Ypage 358).
Rotating the wheels
GWARNING
Interchangingthe front and rear wheels may
severely impair the driving characteristics if
the wheels or tires have different dimensions.
The wheel brakes or suspension components
may also be damaged. There isarisk of
accident.
Rotate front and rear wheels only if the wheels
and tires are of the same dimensions.
!On vehicles equipped withatire pressure
monitor, electronic components are
located in the wheel.
Tire-mounting tools should not be used
near the valve. This could damage the
electronic components.
Only have tires changed ataqualified
specialist workshop.
Always observe the instructions and safety
notes in the "Mountingawheel" section
(Ypage 358).
The wear patternsonthe front and rear tires
differ, depending on the operating conditions.
Rotate the wheels beforeaclear wear pattern
has formed on the tires. Front tires typically
wear more on the shoulders and the rear tires
in the center.
If your vehicle's tire configuration allows, you
can rotate the wheels according to the
intervals in the tire manufacturer's warranty
book in your vehicle documents. If this is not
available, the tires should then be replaced
every 3,000 to 6,000 miles (5,000 to
10,000 km), or earlier if the tire wear requires
this. Do not change the direction of wheel
rotation.
Cleanthe contact surfaces of the wheel and
the brake disc thoroughly every timeawheel
is interchanged. Check the tire pressure and,
if necessary, restart the tire pressure loss
warning system or the tire pressure monitor.
Direction of rotation
Tires withaspecified direction of rotation
have additional benefits, e.g. if there isarisk
of hydroplaning. You will only gain these
benefits if the correct direction of rotation is
maintained.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tire indicates
its correct direction of rotation.
Storing wheels
Storewheels that are not being used inacool,
dry and preferably dark place. Protect the
tires from oil, grease, gasoline and diesel.
Cleaningthe wheels
