Memory functions
Storing settings
GWARNING
If you use the memoryfunctiononthe driver's
side while driving, you could lose control of
the vehicle as a result of the adjustments
being made. There is a risk of an accident.
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary.
GWARNING
When the memory function adjusts the seat,
you and other vehicle occupants–particularly
children–could become trapped. There is a
risk of injury.
While the memory function is making
adjustments, make sure that no one has any
body parts in the sweep of the seat. If
somebody becomes trapped, immediately
release the memory function position button.
The adjustmentprocess is stopped.
GWARNING
Children could become trapped if they
activate the memory function, particularly
when unattended.There isarisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
With the memory function, you can store up
to three different settings, e.g. for three
differentpeople.
The following settings are stored as a single
memory preset:
Rposition of the seat, backrest and head
restraint
Rdriver's side: position of the exterior
mirrors on the driver's and front-passenger
sides
XAdjust the seat (Ypage 93).
XAdjust the exterior mirror on the driver's
side (Ypage 97).
XBriefly press theMmemory button and
then press storage position button1,2or
3within three seconds.
The settings are stored in the selected
preset position.Atone sounds when the
settings have been completed.

Exterior lighting
General notes
For reasons of safety, Mercedes-Benz
recommends that you drive with the lights
switched on even during the daytime. In some
countries, operation of the headlamps varies
due to legal requirements and self-imposed
obligations.
Driving abroad
Conversion to symmetrical low beam
Switch the headlamps to symmetrical low
beam in countries in which traffic drives on
the opposite side of the road from the country
where the vehicle is registered. This prevents
glare to oncoming traffic. When using
symmetrical lights, the edge of the road is not
lit as widely and as far ahead as normal.
Have the headlamps converted at a qualified
specialist workshop as close to the border as
possible before driving in these countries.
Conversion to asymmetrical low beam
after returning
Have the headlamps converted back to
asymmetrical low-beam headlamps at a
qualified specialist workshop as soon as
possible after crossing the border again.

Ropen the driver's door with the SmartKey
in position0.

Automatic headlamp mode
GWARNING
When the lightswitch is set to, the low-
beam headlamps may not be switched on
automatically if there is fog, snow or other
causes of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is a risk of an
accident.
In such situations, turnthe light switch to
.
The automatic headlamp feature is only an
aid. The driver is responsible for the vehicle's
lighting at all times.
is the favored light switch setting. The
light setting is automatically selected
according to the brightness of the ambient
light (exception: poor visibility due to weather
conditions such as fog, snow or spray):
RSmartKey in position1in the ignition lock:
the parking lamps are switched on or off
automatically depending on the brightness
of the ambient light.
RWith the engine running: if you have
activated the daytime running lamps
function via the on-board computer, the
daytime running lamps or the low-beam
headlamps and parking lamps are switched
on or off automatically depending on the
brightness of the ambient light.
XTo switch on automatic headlamp
mode:turn the light switch to.
The daytime running lamps improve the
visibility of your vehicle during the day. The
daytime running lamps function is required by
law in Canada.
When the engine is running and the vehicle is
stationary: if you move the selector lever from
a drive position toP, the daytime running
lamps/low-beam headlamps go out after
three minutes.
When the engine is running, the vehicle is
stationary and in high ambient light: if you
turn the light switch to, you turn on the
daytime running lamps and parking lamps.
If the engine is running and you turn the light
switch to, the manual settings take
precedence over the daytime running lamps.
Low-beam headlamps
Even if the light sensor does not detect that
it is dark, the parking lamps and low-beam
headlamps switch on when the ignition is
switched on and the light switch is set to the
position. This is a particularly useful
function in the event of rain and fog.
XTo switch on the low-beam headlamps:
turn the SmartKey in the ignition lock to
position2or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to.
The greenindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster lights up.
Front fog lamps
In conditions where visibility is poor due to
fog, snow or rain, the fog lamps improve
visibility as well as making it easier for other
road users to see you. They can be operated
together with the parking lamps or together
with the parking lamps and low-beam
headlamps.
XTo switch on the front fog lamps:turn
the SmartKey in the ignition lock to position
2or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch toor.
XPress the\rbutton.
The green\rindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster lights up.
XTo switch off the front fog lamps:press
the\rbutton.
The green\rindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster goes out.
Only vehicles with front fog lamps are
equipped with the "fog lamp" function;
information on the fog lamp function for
vehicles with Intelligent Light System
(Ypage 108).

Rear fog lamp
The rearfog lamp improves visibility of your
vehicle for the traffic behind in the event of
thick fog. Please take note of the country-
specific regulations for the use of rear fog
lamps.
XTo switch on the rear fog lamps:turn the
SmartKey in the ignition lock to position2
or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch toor.
XPress thebutton.
The yellowindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster lights up.
XTo switch off the rear fog lamp:press the
button.
The yellowindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster goes out.
iWhen the rear fog lamp is switched on,
the center brake lamp in the tail lamp
switches off due to a legal requirement.
Parking lamps
!If the battery has been excessively
discharged, the parking lamps or standing
lamps are automatically switched off to
enable the next engine start.Always park
your vehicle safely and sufficiently lit
according to legal standards. Avoid the
continuous use of theparking lamps
for several hours. If possible, switch on the
right or theleft standing lamp.
XTo switch on:turn the light switch to
.
The greenindicator lamp in the
instrumentcluster lights up.
Standing lamps
Switching on the standinglamps ensures the
corresponding side of the vehicle is
illuminated.
XTo switch on the standing lamps:the
SmartKey is not in the ignition lock or it is
in position0.
XTurn the light switch to(left-hand side
of the vehicle) or(right-hand side of
the vehicle).

In theposition, the high-beam
headlamps are only switched on when it is
dark and the engine is running.
The blueindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster lights up when the high-
beam headlamps are switched on.
XTo switch off the high-beam
headlamps:move the combination switch
back to its normal position.
The blueindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster goes out.
iVehicles with Adaptive Highbeam Assist:
when Adaptive Highbeam Assist is active,
it controls activation of the high-beam
headlamps (Ypage 108).
High-beam flasher
XTo switch on:turn the SmartKey in the
ignition lock to position1or2or start the
engine.
XPull the combination switch in the direction
of arrow".
Hazard warning lamps
The hazard warning lamps automatically
switch on if:
Ran air bag is deployed
Rthe vehicle decelerates rapidly from a
speed of more than 45mph(70 km/h) and
comes to a standstill
XTo switch on the hazard warning lamps:
press button.
All turn signals flash. If you now switch on
a turn signal using the combination switch,
only the turn signal lamp on the
corresponding side of the vehicle will flash.
XTo switch off the hazard warning
lamps:press button.
The hazard warning lamps switch off
automatically if the vehicle reaches a speed
of over 6mph (10km/h) again after a full
brake application.
iThe hazard warning lamps still operate if
the ignition is switched off.
Headlamp cleaning system
The headlamps are cleaned automatically if
the "Wipe with washer fluid" function is
operated five times while the lights are on and
the engine is running (Ypage 115). When you
switch off the ignition, the automatic
headlamp cleaning system is reset and
counting is resumed from 0.
Cornering light function
The cornering light function improves the
illumination of the road over a wide angle in
the direction you are turning, enabling better
visibility in tight bends, for example. The
cornering light function can only be activated
whenthe low-beam headlamps are switched
on.

Important notes
In order to prevent the vehicle's battery from
discharging, the interior lighting functions are
automatically deactivated after some time
unless the SmartKey is in position2in the
ignitionlock.
The brightness of the ambient lighting may be
set using the on-board computer
(Ypage 207).
Automatic interior lighting control
XTo switch on:set the switch to center
position .
XTo switch off:set the switch to the
position.
The interior lighting automatically switches
on if you:
Runlock the vehicle
Ropen a door
Rremove the SmartKey from the ignition
lock.
The interior light is activated for a short while
when the SmartKey is removed from the
ignition lock. You can activate this delayed
switch-off using the on-board computer
(Ypage 208).
Manual interior lighting control
XTo switch the front interior lighting on:
set the switch to theposition.
XTo switch the interior lighting off:set the
switch to theposition or (if the door
is closed) to the center position.
XTo switch the interior lighting on/off:
press the
button.
XTo switch the reading lamps on/off:
press thebutton.

XBrake lamp/rear fog lamp/backup
lamp:remove the corresponding bulb from
the bulb holder.
XInsert the new bulb into the bulb holder.
XTurn signal lamp:lightly press the bulb
into the bulb holder, turn it counter-
clockwise and remove it from bulb holder.
XInsert the new bulb into the bulb holderand
turn it clockwise.
XReinsert the bulb holderand engage on
retaining clips.
XRe-establish contact with the connector.
XClose the side trim panel (Ypage 114).
Windshieldwipers
Switching the windshield wipers on/
off
!Do not operate the windshield wipers
when the windshield is dry, as this could
damage the wiper blades. Moreover, dust
that has collected on the windshield can
scratch the glass if wiping takes place when
the windshield is dry.
If it is necessary to switch on the windshield
wipers in dry weather conditions, always
use washer fluid when operating the
windshield wipers.
!If the windshield wipers leave smears on
the windshield after the vehicle has been
washed in an automatic car wash, wax or
other residues may be the reason for this.
Clean the windshield using washer fluid
after washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash.

windshield becomes dirty in dry weather
conditions, the windshield wipers may be
activated inadvertently. This could then
damage the windshield wiper blades or
scratch the windshield.
For this reason, you should always switch
off the windshield wipers in dry weather.
Vehicles witharain sensor:in the

position, the appropriate wiping
frequency is automatically set according to
the intensity of the rain. In theposition,
the rainsensor is more sensitive than in
the
position, causing the windshield
wipers to wipe more frequently.
If the wiper blades are worn, the windshield
will no longer be wiped properly. This could
prevent you from observing the traffic
conditions.Replace the wiper blades twice a
year, ideally in spring and fall.

Replacing the wiper blades
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the windshield wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you could
be trapped by the wiper arm.There is a risk
of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
ignition before changing the wiper blades.
!To avoid damaging the wiper blades,
make sure that you touch only the wiper
arm of the wiper.
!Never open the hood if a windshield wiper
arm has been folded away from the
windshield.
Never fold a windshield wiper arm without
a wiper blade back onto the windshield.
Hold the windshield wiper arm firmly when
you change the wiper blade. If you release
the windshield wiper arm without a wiper
blade and it falls onto the windshield, the
windshield may be damaged by the force of
the impact.
Mercedes-Benzrecommends that you have
the wiper blades changed ataqualified
specialist workshop.
