Deactivating/activating PARKTRONIC Vehicles with AIRMATIC

The field of vision and other functions of the
reversing camera may be restricted due to
additional accessories on the rear of the vehi-
cle (e.g. licence plate holder, bicycle rack).
i The reversing camera is protected from
raindrops and dust by means of a flap.
When the reversing camera is activated,
this flap opens.
The flap closes again when:
R you have finished the manoeuvring proc-
ess
R you switch off the engine
R you open the boot
Observe the notes on cleaning

For technical reasons, the flap may remain
open briefly after the reversing camera has been deactivated.
Activating/deactivating the reversing

To activate: make sure that the key is in
position 2in the ignition lock.

COMAND Online; see the Digital Owner's
Manual.
X Engage reverse gear.
The reversing camera flap opens. The area
behind the vehicle is shown with guide lines
in the Audio 20/COMAND Online display.
The image from the reversing camera is
available throughout the manoeuvring
process.
X To change the function mode for vehi-
cles with trailer tow hitch: using the
Audio 20/COMAND controller, select sym-
bol :for the "Reverse parking" function or
symbol ;for "Coupling up a trailer".
The symbol of the selected function is high-
lighted.

To deactivate: the reversing camera deacti-
vates if you shift the transmission to Por after
driving forwards a short distance.
Messages in the Audio 20/COMAND
Online display The reversing camera may show a distorted
view of obstacles or show them incorrectly or
not at all. Obstacles are not shown by the
reversing camera in the following locations:
R very close to the rear bumper
R under the rear bumper
R in the area immediately above the tailgate
handle
! Objects not at ground level may appear to
be further away than they actually are, e.g.:
R the bumper of a parked vehicle
R the drawbar of a trailer

Activating Blind Spot Assist
X Make sure that Blind Spot Assist
(Y page 309) is activated in the on-board
computer.
X Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
Warning lamps :in the exterior mirrors
light up red until the engine is started.
Display in the assistance graphic When Blind Spot Assist is activated, grey
radar waves propagating backwards appear
next to the vehicle in the assistance display in the multifunction display. Above a speed of
30 km/h, the colour of the radar waves in the
assistance display changes to green ;. Blind
Spot Assist is then ready for use.
Towing a trailer
If you couple up a trailer, make sure that you
have correctly established the electrical con- nection. This can be accomplished by check-ing the trailer lighting. Blind Spot Assist is

the multifunction display. Lane Keeping Assist General notes
Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area in
front of your vehicle by means of camera
:
at the top of the windscreen. Lane Keeping
Assist detects lane markings on the road and
can warn you before you leave your lane unin-
tentionally.
This function is available in the range between
60 km/h and 200 km/h.
A warning may be given if a front wheel
passes over a lane marking. It will warn you by means of intermittent vibration through the
steering wheel for up to 1.5 seconds.
Important safety notes G
WARNING
Lane Keeping Assist cannot always clearly
identify lane markings.
In these cases, Lane Keeping Assist may:
R give an unnecessary warning
R not give a warning
There is a risk of an accident.
Always pay particular attention to the traffic
situation and keep in lane, especially if Lane
Keeping Assist alerts you. G
WARNING
The Lane Keeping Assist warning does not

Activating Active Blind Spot Assist
X Make sure that Active Blind Spot Assist is
activated in the on-board computer

X Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
Warning lamps :in the exterior mirrors
light up red for approximately 1.5 seconds. Grey radar waves propagating backwards
appear next to the vehicle in the assistance
display in the multifunction display.
Towing a trailer
If you couple up a trailer, make sure that you have correctly established the electrical con-
nection. This can be accomplished by check- ing the trailer lighting. Active Blind Spot Assist
is then deactivated. The radar waves next to
the vehicle are hidden in the assistance dis-

Active Lane Keeping Assist General notes
Active Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area
in front of your vehicle by means of camera
system :at the top of the windscreen. Var-
ious areas to the front, rear and side of your
vehicle are also monitored with the aid of the
radar sensor system. Active Lane Keeping
Assist detects lane markings on the road and
can warn you before you leave your lane unin-
tentionally. If you do not react to the warning, a lane-correcting application of the brakes
can bring the vehicle back into the original
lane.

Speed-/odometer: function on the on-board

Assist is activated starting at a speed of
60 km/h. If the miles milesdisplay unit is selected,
the assistance range begins at 40 mph.
Important safety notes
If you fail to adapt your driving style, Active
Lane Keeping Assist can neither reduce the
risk of an accident nor override the laws of
physics. Active Lane Keeping Assist cannot
take account of road and weather conditions. It may not recognise traffic situations. Active Lane Keeping Assist is only an aid. You are
responsible for the distance to the vehicle in
front, for vehicle speed, for braking in good
time, and for staying in lane.
Active Lane Keeping Assist cannot continu-
ously keep your vehicle in its lane. G
WARNING
Active Lane Keeping Assist cannot always
clearly detect lane markings.
In such cases, Active Lane Keeping Assist
can:
R give an unnecessary warning and then
make a course-correcting brake application
to the vehicle
R neither give a warning nor intervene
There is a risk of an accident.
Always pay particular attention to the traffic
situation and keep within the lane, especially
if Active Lane Keeping Assist alerts you. Ter-
minate the intervention in a non-critical driv-

The energy flow is indicated by arrows. The
arrows have a different colour depending on
the operating state:
R Green: energy recuperation
R White: normal energy consumption
R Red: increased energy consumption, provi-
ded by the vehicle's high-voltage electrical
system
Automatic engine switch-off The internal combustion engine and the elec-
tric motor are switched off.
The arrows for the energy flow are not shown.
The combustion engine is shown in dark grey.
The charge status of the high-voltage battery is shown when the key is in position 2in the
ignition lock.
Engine running while the vehicle is sta-
tionary The combustion engine is running while the
vehicle is stationary. The high-voltage battery
is not being charged.
The arrows for the energy flow are not shown. The combustion engine is highlighted.
Charging while the vehicle is stationary The internal combustion engine drives the
electric motor. The electric motor is operating
as an alternator. The high-voltage battery is
charging.

The vehicle is operational when READY indi-
cator :lights up.
Noiseless start The vehicle starts in electric mode without the
internal combustion engine. The internal
combustion engine starts only after the
power demanded by the driver exceeds the
available power that the electric motor can
currently provide.
Noiseless start operation is dependent on the
outside temperature and the operating tem-
perature of the internal combustion engine.
The vehicle is operational when READY indi-
cator :lights up. Pulling away
X Depress the brake pedal and keep it
depressed.
X Shift the transmission to position Dor R.
X Release the brake pedal.

AGILITY SELECT switch Driving programs
Use the AGILITY SELECT switch to change the
drive program. Depending on the drive pro-
gram selected, the following vehicle charac-
teristics will change:
R the drive (engine and transmission man-
agement)
R the suspension
R the steering R
the availability of the ECO start/stop func-
tion (Y page 279)
R the climate control settings
- THERMATIC (Y page 153)
- THERMOTRONIC (Y page 156)
R the rear window heating operation period
(Y page 164)
R the performance of the seat heating
(Y page 123)
If the ignition is switched off for less than four
hours, the previously selected drive program
is activated when the engine is next started. If the ignition is switched off for more than four
hours, drive program Cis activated when the
engine is next started. X
Push AGILITY SELECT switch :up or down
until the desired drive program is selected. The selected drive program appears in the
multifunction display. After five seconds
the display goes out and the status icon of
the selected drive program appears.
In addition, the current drive program set-
tings are displayed in the Audio 20/
COMAND Online display.

Pull release knob :until the ball coupling
unlocks.
The ball coupling folds down from under the rear bumper. The indicator lamp on the
release knob flashes.
Do not attempt to speed this process up by
applying additional pressure with your foot. The system could otherwise be mechani-
cally damaged. X
Press the ball coupling in the direction of
the arrow until it engages audibly behind
the bumper.
The indicator lamp on the release knob
goes out and the message in the multifunc-
tion display disappears. Trailer power supply
! You can connect accessories with a
power rating of up to 240 W to the perma-
nent power supply and with a power rating of up to 180 W to the power supply that is
switched on via the ignition lock. The trailer battery may not be charged from
the power supply.
When it leaves the factory, your vehicle's
trailer socket is equipped with a permanent
power supply and a power supply that is
switched on via the ignition lock.
The permanent power supply is supplied via
trailer socket pin 9.
The power supply that is switched on via the
ignition lock is supplied via trailer socket pin
10.
The trailer's permanent power supply is
switched off in the event of low vehicle supply
voltage and after six hours at the latest.
You can find more information about fitting
the trailer electrics at a qualified specialist
workshop.
X To switch the connected power supply
on or off: turn the key in the ignition lock to
position 2or 0respectively (Y page 181). Bulb failure indicator for LED lamps
If LED lamps are fitted in the trailer, an error
message may appear in the multifunction dis-
play even if there is no fault. The reason for
the error message may be that the current
has fallen below the minimum of 50 mA.
To ensure reliable operation of the bulb failure indicator, each LED chain in the trailer lighting
must be guaranteed a minimum current of
50 mA. Trailer with 7-pin connector

you can con-
nect to the 13-pin socket on the ball coupling
using an adapter or, if necessary, an adapter
cable. Both can be obtained at a qualified
