Important Ventilating
Information
If you stop your vehicle and the leave
the engine idling for long periods, we
recommend that you do one of the
following:
• Open the windows at least 1 inch(2.5 centimeters)
• Set your climate control to outside air.
ENGINE BLOCK HEATER (IF
EQUIPPED)
WARNINGS
Failure to follow engine block
heater instructions could result
in property damage or serious
personal injury.
Do not use your heater with
ungrounded electrical systems
or two-pronged adapters. There is a
risk of electrical shock.
Note: The heater is most effective
when outdoor temperatures are below
0°F (-18°C).
The heater acts as a starting aid by
warming the engine coolant. This
allows the climate control system to
respond quickly. The equipment
includes a heater element (installed
in the engine block) and a wire
harness. You can connect the system
to a grounded 120-volt AC electrical
source. We recommend that you do the
following for a safe and correct
operation:
• Use a 16-gauge outdoor extension
cord that is product certified by
Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) or
Canadian Standards Association
(CSA). This extension cord must
be suitable for use outdoors, in
cold temperatures, and be clearly
marked Suitable for Use with
Outdoor Appliances. Do not use an
indoor extension cord outdoors.
This could result in an electric
shock or become a fire hazard.
• Use as short an extension cord as possible.
• Do not use multiple extension cords.
• Make sure that when in operation, the extension cord plug and heater
cord plug connections are free and
clear of water. This could cause an
electric shock or fire.
• Make sure your vehicle is parked in a clean area, clear of
combustibles.
• Make sure the heater, heater cord and extension cord are firmly
connected.
• Check for heat anywhere in the electrical hookup once the system
has been operating for
approximately 30 minutes.

Starting and Stopping the Engine

Ford Motor Company produces a
towing manual for all authorized tow
truck operators. Have your tow truck
operator refer to this manual for
proper hook-up and towing
procedures for your vehicle.
It is acceptable to have your
front-wheel drive vehicle towed from
the front if using proper wheel lift
equipment to raise the front wheels
off the ground. When towing in this
manner, the rear wheels can remain
on the ground.
Front-wheel drive vehicles must have
the front wheels placed on a tow dolly
when towing your vehicle from the
rear using wheel lift equipment. This
prevents damage to the transmission.
Towing an all-wheel drive vehicle
requires that all wheels be off the
ground, such as using a wheel lift and
dollies or flatbed equipment. This
prevents damage to the transmission,
all-wheel drive system and vehicle.TOWING THE VEHICLE ON

Emergency Towing
You can flat-tow (all wheels on the
ground, regardless of the
powertrain/transmission
configuration) your disabled vehicle
(without access to wheel dollies,
car-hauling trailer, or flatbed transport
vehicle) under the following
conditions:
• Your vehicle is facing forward soyou tow it in a forward direction.
• You place the transmission in position N. If you cannot place the
transmission in position N, you
may need to override it. See
Transmission (page 167).
• Maximum speed is 35 mph (56 km/h).
• Maximum distance is 50 miles (80 kilometers).
Recreational Towing
Note: Put your climate control system
in recirculated air mode to prevent
exhaust fumes from entering the
vehicle. See Climate Control (page
128).
Follow these guidelines if you have a
need for recreational (RV) towing. An
example of recreational towing would
be towing your vehicle behind a
motorhome. These guidelines are to
make sure you do not damage the
transmission during towing.

Tire Quality Grading

Tire Quality Grades apply to new
pneumatic passenger car tires.
The Quality grades can be found
where applicable on the tire
sidewall between tread shoulder
and maximum section width. For
example: Treadwear 200
Traction AA Temperature A.
These Tire Quality Grades are
determined by standards that the
United States Department of
Transportation has set.
Tire Quality Grades apply to new
pneumatic passenger car tires.
They do not apply to deep tread,
winter-type snow tires,
space-saver or temporary use
spare tires, light truck or LT type
tires, tires with nominal rim
diameters of 10 to 12 inches or
limited production tires as defined
in Title 49 Code of Federal
Regulations Part 575.104 (c)(2). U.S. Department of
Transportation Tire quality
grades:
The U.S. Department of
Transportation requires Ford
Motor Company to give you the
following information about tire
grades exactly as the government
has written it.
Treadwear
The treadwear grade is a
comparative rating based on the
wear rate of the tire when tested
under controlled conditions on a
specified government test course.
For example, a tire graded 150
would wear 1 ½ times as well on
the government course as a tire
graded 100. The relative
performance of tires depends
upon the actual conditions of their
use, however, and may depart
significantly from the norm due to
variations in driving habits, service
practices, and differences in road
characteristics and climate.
Traction AA A B C
WARNING
The traction grade assigned
to this tire is based on
straight-ahead braking traction
tests, and does not include
acceleration, cornering,
hydroplaning or peak traction
characteristics.

This system uses a four-corner
strategy to provide quick access to

The touchscreen provides easy
interaction with your cellular phone,
multimedia, climate control and
navigation system. The corners
display any active modes within those
menus, such as phone status or the

while your vehicle is moving.

control audio features for 30 minutes
