■Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system uses weak radio waves. In the following situations,
the communication between the electronic key and the vehicle may be affected,
preventing the smart entry & start system, wireless remote control and immobilizer
system from operating properly.
(Ways of coping: →P. 5 9 1 )
●When the electronic key battery is depleted
●Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large display,
airport or other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical noise
●When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone, cordless phone or other wire-
less communication device
●When the electronic key is in contact with, or is covered by the following metal-
lic objects
• Cards to which aluminum foil is attached
• Cigarette boxes that have aluminum foil inside
• Metallic wallets or bags
•Coins
• Hand warmers made of metal
• Media such as CDs and DVDs
●When multiple electronic keys are in the vicinity
●When another wireless key (that emits radio waves) is being used nearby
●When carrying the electronic key together with the following devices that emit
radio waves
• Another vehicle's electronic key or a wireless key that emits radio waves
• Personal computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs)
• Digital audio players
• Portable game systems
●If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to the rear
window

■If the smart entry & start system does not operate properly
●Locking and unlocking the doors: Use the mechanical key. (→P. 5 9 1 )
●Starting the engine: →P. 5 9 2
■Electronic key battery depletion
●The standard battery life is 1 to 2 years. (The card key battery life is about a year
and a half.)
●If the battery becomes low, an alarm will sound in the cabin when the engine
stops. (→P. 5 6 3 )
●As the electronic key always receives radio waves, the battery will become
depleted even if the electronic key is not used. The following symptoms indicate
that the electronic key battery may be depleted. Replace the battery when nec-
essary. (→P. 5 0 1 )
• The smart entry & start system or the wireless remote control does not oper-
ate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key surface does not turn on.
●To avoid serious deterioration, do not leave the electronic key within 1 m (3 ft.) of
the following electrical appliances that produce a magnetic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and battery chargers
• Recharging cellular phones or cordless phones
• Induction cookers
• Table lamps

Canceling the power back door system (vehicles with a power back door)
Turn off the main switch in the glove box to disable the power back door
system.

The back door cannot be operated
even with the wireless remote con-
trol or power back door switch.
■The power back door can be operated when (vehicles with a power back door)
●The back door is unlocked.
●The power back door main switch is on.
●To open the power back door when the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in
IGNITION ON mode, the power back door main switch must be on, the vehi-
cle speed must be lower than 3 km/h (1 mph) and the shift lever must be in P.
(When using the back door opener button only)
●The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned off. (When using the wireless
remote control only)

Linking driving position memory with door unlock operation (driver’s side only)
Record your driving position to button “1”, “2” or “3” before performing
the following.
Carry only the key (including the card key) to which you want to link the
driving position. If 2 or more keys are in the vehicle, the driving position
cannot be linked properly.
Shift the shift lever to P and close the driver's door. Turn the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch to IGNITION ON mode.
Press the desired button (“1”, “2” or
“3”) to recall the position. Then,
while keep pressing the button,
press the driver's door lock
switches (either lock or unlock)
until the signal beeps.
The driving position is recalled
when the driver's door is unlocked
using the entry function or wireless
remote control and the driver's
door is opened.

■Door lock linked window operation
●The power windows can be opened and closed using the mechanical key.
(→P. 5 9 1 )
●The power windows can be opened and closed using the wireless remote con-
trol if customized at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional. (→P. 5 3 )
■Window close suggestion mode
If the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned off with the windows open, a sug-
gestion to close all the windows is shown on the multi-information display.

■When the battery is disconnected
The window lock switch is disabled. If necessary, press the window lock switch after
reconnecting the battery.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. linked door lock operation) can be changed.

CAUTION
■Closing the windows
Observe the following precautions.
Failing to do so may result in death or serious injury.
●Check to make sure that all passengers do not have any part of their body in a
position where it could be caught when a window is being operated.
●Do not allow children to operate the power windows.
Closing a power window on someone can cause death or serious injury.
The driver is responsible for instructing children not to operate the power win-
dows.
■Jam protection function
●Never use any part of your body to intentionally activate the jam protection func-
tion.
●The jam protection function may not work if something gets caught just before
the window fully closes. Also, the jam protection does not operate when the
power window switch is pulled up continually to close the windows.
