The meters and displa y illuminate when
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode. ■
The brightness of the instrument panel lights
When the tail lights are turned on, the me ter’s brightness will be reduced slightly
unless the meter brightness level adjustment is set to the brightest setting.
If the tail lights are turned on when the surroundings are dark, the meter’s bright-
ness will be reduced slightly. However, wh en the surroundings are bright, such as
during the daytime, the meter’s brightness will not be reduced even if the tail lights
are turned on.
NOTICE■
To prevent damage to the engine and its components ●
Do not let the indicator needle of the ta chometer enter the red zone, which indi-
cates the maximum engine speed. ●
The engine may be overheating if the engine coolant temperature gauge is in the
red zone (“H”). In this case, immediatel y stop the vehicle in a safe place, and
check the engine after it has cooled completely. ( P. 8 7 3 )■
Vo l t m e t e r
When the voltmeter indicates 19 V or higher or 9 V or lower while the engine is
running, there may be a battery or chargi ng system malfunction. Have the vehicle
inspected at your Lexus dealer. ■
Engine oil pressure gauge
When the value of the engine oil pressure gauge drops while the engine is running,
stop the vehicle in a safe place immediately and check the amount of engine oil.

When the oil pressure drops even though the engine oil amount has not decreased,
or if the oil pressure does not increase when engine oil is added, contact your Lexus
dealer, as there may be a problem with the lubrication system.

With the engine at operating temperat ure and turned off, check the oil
level on the dipstick.
■ Checking the engine oil
Park the vehicle on level grou nd. After warming up the engine
and turning it off, wait more th an 5 minutes for the oil to drain
back into the bottom of the engine.
Hold a rag under the end and pull
the dipstick out.NOTICE■
After installing an engine compartment cover
Make sure that the cover is securely installed in its original position.

Used engine oil ●
Used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin
disorders such as inflammati on or skin cancer, so care should be taken to avoid
prolonged and repeated contact. To remove used engine oil from your skin, wash
thoroughly with soap and water. ●
Dispose of used oil and filters only in a safe and acceptable manner. Do not dis-
pose of used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the ground. Call
your Lexus dealer, service station or auto parts store for information concerning
recycling or disposal. ●
Do not leave used engine oil within the reach of children.
NOTICE■
To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on regular basis. ■
When replacing the engine oil ●
Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components. ●
Avoid overfilling, as the engine could be damaged. ●
Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle. ●
