tion was not in P.
→ To turn off the hybrid system,
first shift the shift position to P
and then turn the power switch
off.

key was still inside the vehicle.
• An attempt was made to lock either front door by opening a
door and putting the inside lock
button into the lock position, then
closing the door by pulling on the

→ Retrieve the electronic key
from the vehicle and lock the
doors again.

Pull the insertion key out of the kit.
Place the kit with the bottom facing
upward.
Peel off the label, and push in the inser-
tion key until a click is heard.
Return the kit to an upright position
and make sure that the compressor
switch is off.
Use the kit with the top facing upward.
Connect the power plug to the

When trouble arises
If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* ( → P. 565)
●There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( →P. 76 )
●There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (→ P. 7 9 )
●There may be a malfunction in the shift control system.* (→ P. 1 8 0 , 5 7 7 )
●The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical problem such
as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However, depending on
the type of malfunction, an interim measure is available to start the hybrid sys-
tem. ( →P. 5 6 4 )
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( →P. 5 6 7 )
●The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
(→ P. 4 6 3 )
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
●The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( →P. 5 6 7 )
●One or both of the 12-volt battery terminals may be disconnected. ( →P. 463)
Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional if the problem cannot be repaired, or if repair procedures
are unknown.
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on the situation.
Check the following and perform the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting proce-
dure is being followed. ( →P. 177)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not sound or
sounds at a low volume.
The interior lights and he adlights do not turn on, or the horn does not
sound.

When trouble arises
If the electronic key does not operate properly
Use the mechanical key ( →P. 1 1 5 ) i n
order to perform the following opera-
tions:
Locks all the doors
Closes the windows
* (turn and hold)
Unlocks all the doors
Opens the windows
* (turn and hold)
*: These settings must be customized at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Depress the brake pedal.
Touch the Lexus emblem side of the
electronic key to the power switch.
If any of the doors is opened or closed
while the key is being touched to the
switch, an alarm will sound to indicate
that the start function cannot detect the
electronic key.
Press the power switch within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, keeping the
brake pedal depressed.
In the event that the hybrid system still cannot be operated, contact any autho-
rized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted ( →P.
130) or the electronic key cannot be us ed because the battery is depleted, the
smart entry & start system and wireless remote control cannot be used. In such
cases, the doors can be opened and the hybrid system can be started by following
the procedure below.

■Stopping the hybrid system
Set the parking brake, shift the shift position to P and press the power switch as you nor-
mally do when stopping the hybrid system.
■Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the electronic
key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. (→P. 4 8 3 )
■Alarm (if equipped)
Using the mechanical key to lock the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set, the alarm
may be triggered. ( →P. 8 5 )
■Changing power switch modes
Within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, release the brake pedal and press the power
switch.
The hybrid system does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is
pressed. ( →P. 1 7 8 )
WA R N I N G
■When using the mechanical key and operating the power windows
Operate the power window after checking to make sure that there is no possibility of
any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the window.
Also, do not allow children to operate the mechanical key. It is possible for children and
other passengers to get caught in power window.
