■For the shift positions
●When the power switch is off, the shift position cannot be changed.
●When the power switch is in ON mode (the hybrid system is not operating), the shift
position can only be changed to N. The shif t position will be changed to N even if the
shift lever is shifted to D or R and held in that position.
●When the “READY” indicator is on, the shift position can be changed from P to D, N or
R.
●When the “READY” indicator is flashing, the shift position cannot be changed from P to
another position even if the shift lever is operated. Wait until the “READY” indicator
changes from a flashing to a solid light, and then operate the shift lever again.
●The shift position can only be changed to B directly from D.
In addition, if an attempt is made to change the shift position by moving the shift lever or
by pressing the P position switch in any of the following situations, the buzzer will sound
and the shifting operation will be disabled or the shift position will automatically change
to N. When this happens, select an appropriate shift position.
●Situations where the shifting operation will be disabled:
• When an attempt is made to change the shift position from P to another position by moving the shift lever without depressing the brake pedal.
• When an attempt is made to change the shift position from P or N to B by moving
the shift lever.
●Situations where the shift position will automatically change to N:
• When the P position switch is pressed while the vehicle is running.
*1
• When an attempt is made to select the R position by moving the shift lever when the
vehicle is moving forward.
*2
• When an attempt is made to select the D position by moving the shift lever when thevehicle is moving in reverse.
*3
• When an attempt is made to change the shift position from R to B by moving the shiftlever.
*1: Shift position may be changed to P when driving at extremely low speeds.
*2: Shift position may be changed to R when driving at low speeds.
*3: Shift position may be changed to D when driving at low speeds.
■Reverse warning buzzer
When shifting into R, a buzzer will sound to info rm the driver that the shift position is in R.
■About engine braking
When shift position B is selected, releasing the accelerator pedal will apply engine brak-
ing.
• When the vehicle is driven at high speeds, compared to ordinary gasoline-fueled vehi-
cles, the engine braking deceleration is felt less than that of other vehicles.
• The vehicle can be accelerated even when shift position B is selected.
If the vehicle is driven contin uously in the B position, fuel efficiency will become low. Usu-
ally, select the D position.

Opening the fuel tank cap
●Close all the doors and windows, and turn the power switch off.
●Confirm the type of fuel.
■Fuel types
EU area:
Unleaded gasoline conforming to European standard EN228, Research Octane Num-
ber of 95 or higher
Except EU area:
Unleaded gasoline, Research octane number 95 or higher
■Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Lexus allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content is up to 10%.
Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a Research Octane Number
that follows the above.
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap:
Before refueling the vehicle
WA R N I N G
■When refueling the vehicle
Observe the following precautions while refueling the vehicle. Failure to do so may
result in death or serious injury.
●After exiting the vehicle and before opening the fuel door, touch an unpainted metal
surface to discharge any static electricity. It is important to discharge static electricity
before refueling because sparks resulting fr om static electricity can cause fuel vapors
to ignite while refueling.
●Always hold the grips on the fuel tank cap and turn it slowly to remove it.
A whooshing sound may be heard when the fuel tank cap is loosened. Wait until the
sound cannot be heard before fully removing the cap. In hot weather, pressurized fuel
may spray out of the filler neck and cause injury.
●Do not allow anyone that has not discharged static electricity from their body to come
close to an open fuel tank.
●Do not inhale vaporized fuel.
Fuel contains substances that are harmful if inhaled.
●Do not smoke while refueling the vehicle.
Doing so may cause the fuel to ignite and cause a fire.
●Do not return to the vehicle or touch any person or object that is statically charged.
This may cause static electricity to build up, resulting in a possible ignition hazard.

Driving mode select switch
Normal mode
Eco drive mode
Suitable for improving the fuel economy,
because the torque corresponding to
the accelerator pedal depression
amount can be generated more
smoothly than it is in normal conditions
and the operation of the air conditioning
system (heating/cooling) will be mini-
mized.
When the driving mode select switch is
turned left, the “ECO MODE” indicator
comes on in the instrument cluster.
Press the switch to change the driving mode to normal mode.
Sport mode
Use when high levels of response and fee ling are desirable, such as when driving in
mountainous regions or when overtaking.
When the driving mode select switch is turned right, the “SPORT MODE” indicator
comes on in the instrument cluster.
Press the switch to change the driving mode to normal mode.
■Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
Eco drive mode controls the heating/cooling operations and fan speed of the air condi-
tioning system to enhance fuel efficiency ( →P. 415, 422). To improve air conditioning
performance, adjust the fan speed or turn off Eco drive mode.
■Sport mode automatic deactivation
Sport mode is automatically deactivated if th e power switch is turned off after driving in
sport mode.
The driving modes can be selected to suit driving conditions.

Hybrid vehicle driving tips
◆Using Eco drive mode
When using Eco drive mode, the torque corresponding to the accelerator
pedal depression amount can be generated more smoothly than it is in normal
conditions. In addition, the operation of the air conditioning system (heating/
cooling) will be minimized, improving the fuel economy. (
→P. 2 3 7 )
◆Use of Hybrid System Indicator
The Eco-friendly driving is possible by keeping the indicator needle of Hybrid
System Indicator within Eco area. ( →P. 9 8 )
◆Shift lever operation
Shift the shift position to D when stopped at a traffic light, or driving in heavy
traffic etc. Shift the shift position to P when parking. When using the N posi-
tion, there is no positive effect on fuel consumption. In the N position, the gas-
oline engine operates but electricity cannot be generated. Also, when using
the air conditioning system, etc., the hybrid battery (traction battery) power is
consumed.
◆Accelerator pedal/brake pedal operation
●Drive your vehicle smoothly. Avoid abrupt acceleration and deceleration.
Gradual acceleration and deceleration will make more effective use of the
electric motor (traction motor) without having to use gasoline engine
power.
●Avoid repeated acceleration. Repeated acceleration consumes hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery) power, resulting in poor fuel consumption. Battery
power can be restored by driving with the accelerator pedal slightly
released.
◆When braking
Make sure to operate the brakes gently and in a timely manner. A greater
amount of electrical energy can be retained when slowing down.
For economical and ecological driving, pay attention to the following points:

2524-6. Driving tips
CT200h_OM_OM76135E_(EE)
◆Delays
Repeated acceleration and deceleration, as well as long waits at traffic lights,
will lead to bad fuel economy. Check traffic reports before leaving and avoid
delays as much as possible. When driving in a traffic jam, gently release the
brake pedal to allow the vehicle to move forward slightly while avoiding over-
use of the accelerator pedal. Doing so can help control excessive gasoline
consumption.
◆Highway driving
Control and maintain the vehicle at a constant speed. Before stopping at a toll
booth or similar, allow plenty of time to release the accelerator and gently
apply the brakes. A greater amount of electrical energy can be regenerated
when slowing down.
◆Air conditioning
Use the air conditioning only when necessary. Doing so can help reduce
excessive gasoline consumption.
In summer: When the ambient temperature is high, use the recirculated air
mode. Doing so will help to reduce the burden on the air conditioning system
and reduce fuel consumption as well.
In winter: Because the gasoline engine will not automatically cut out until it
and the interior of the vehicle are warm, it will consume fuel. Fuel consumption
can be improved by avoiding overuse of the heater.
◆Checking tire inflation pressure
Make sure to check the tire inflation pressure frequently. Improper tire infla-
tion pressure can cause poor fuel economy.
Also, as snow tires can cause large amounts of friction, their use on dry roads
can lead to poor fuel economy. Use tires that are appropriate for the season.
◆Luggage
Carrying heavy luggage will lead to poor fuel economy. Avoid carrying
unnecessary luggage. Installing a large roof rack will also cause poor fuel
economy.

◆Warming up before driving
Since the gasoline engine starts up and cuts out automatically when cold,
warming up the engine is unnecessary. Moreover, frequently driving short dis-
tances will cause the engine to repeatedly warm up, which can lead to excess
fuel consumption.
