The purpose of the air bag warning
light in your instrument panel is to
alert you of a potential problem with
your air bag - Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS).
When the ignition switch is turned
ON, the warning light should illumi-
nate for approximately 6 seconds,
then go off.
Have the system checked if:
The light does not turn on briefly
when you turn the engine
start/stop button to the ON posi-tion. The light stays on after illuminating
for approximately 6 seconds.
The light comes on while the vehi- cle is in motion.
The light blinks when the engine start/stop button is in ON position.
WARNING
Extreme Hazard! Do not use a rearward facing child restraint
on a seat protected by an air
bag in front of it!
Never put a child restraint in the front passenger’s seat. If
the front passenger air bag
inflates, it can cause serious
or fatal injuries.
When children are seated in the rear outboard seats of a
vehicle equipped with side
and/or curtain air bags, be
sure to install the child
restraint system as far away
from the door side as possi-
ble, and securely lock the
child restraint system in posi-
tion. Inflation of side and/or
curtain air bags could cause
serious injury or death to an
infant or child.

The SRS consists of the following components:
1. Driver's front air bag module
2. Passenger's front air bag module
3. Side air bag modules
4. Curtain air bag modules
5. Retractor pre-tensioner assem-blies
6. Air bag warning light
7. SRS control module (SRSCM)
8. Front impact sensors
9. Side impact sensors 10. Driver’s knee air bag module
11. Driver’s and front passenger’s
seat belt buckle sensors.*

The SRSCM continually monitors all SRS components while the engine
start/stop button is ON to determine
if a crash impact is severe enough to
require air bag deployment or pre-
tensioner seat belt deployment.
The SRS air bag warning light " "
on the instrument panel will illumi-
nate for about 6 seconds after the
engine start/stop button is turned tothe ON position, after which the SRS
air bag warning light " " should goout.

If any of the following condi-
tions occurs, this indicates a
malfunction of the SRS. We rec-ommend that the system be
inspected by an authorized Kia
dealer.

Driver's and passenger's front air
bag
Your vehicle is equipped with a
Supplemental Restraint (Air Bag)System and the lap/shoulder belts at
both the driver and passenger seat-
ing positions. The indications of the system's pres-
ence are the letters "SRS AIR BAG"
embossed on the air bag pad cover
in the steering wheel and/or on the
cover of the driver's side knee bolster
located below the steering wheel andthe passenger's side front panel pad
above the glove box.

The SRS can function only
when the ignition key is in the
ON position. If the SRS air bagwarning light does not illumi-
nate, or continuously remains
on after illuminating for about6 seconds when the ignition
key is turned to the ON posi-
tion, or after the engine is
started, comes on while driv-
ing, the SRS is not working
properly.
If this occurs, we recommend that the system be inspected
by an authorized Kia dealer.
Before you replace a fuse or disconnect a battery terminal,
turn the engine start/stop but-
ton to the OFF position. Never
remove or replace the air bagrelated fuse(s) when the
engine start/stop button is in
the ON position. Failure toheed this warning will cause
the SRS “ ” warning light to
illuminate.

Carrying the smart key, you may lock
and unlock the vehicle doors and
trunk.
Locking
1. Carry the smart key.
2. Close all doors.
3. Press the button of the outsidedoor handle.
4. The hazard warning lights will blink once (the engine hood and
trunk must be closed).
Also, the outside rearview mirror will
automatically fold when the outside
rearview mirror folding switch is in
the AUTO position (if equipped).
5. Make sure that doors are locked by pulling the outside door handle.
✽✽ NOTICE
 The button will only operate when the smart key is within 0.7 m (28
in.) from the outside door handle.
 Even though you press the outside door handle button, the doors will
not lock and the chime will sound for
3 seconds if any of following occur:- The smart key is in the vehicle.
- The engine start/stop button is in ACC or ON position.
- Any door except the trunk is opened.
Unlocking
1. Carry the smart key.
2.Press the button of the front out- side door handle.
3.All doors will unlock and the hazard warning lights will blink twice.
Also, the outside rearview mirror
will automatically unfold when the
outside rearview mirror folding
switch is in the AUTO position (ifequipped).
✽✽ NOTICE
 The button will only operate when the smart key is within 0.7 m (28
in.) from the outside door handle.
 When the smart key is recognized in the area of 0.7 m (28 in.) from
the front outside door handle, other
people can also open the doors.
 After unlocking all doors, the doors will lock automatically
unless a door is opened within 30
seconds.

Immobilizer system
Your vehicle may be equipped with
an electronic engine immobilizer sys-
tem to reduce the risk of unautho-
rized vehicle use.
Your immobilizer system is com-
prised of a small transponder in the
key and electronic devices inside the
vehicle.
Whenever the engine start/stop but- ton is changed to the ON position,
the immobilizer system checks and
verifies if the key is valid or not.
If the key is valid, the engine will
start.
If the key is invalid, the engine will not
start.To deactivate the immobilizersystem
Change the engine start/stop button to the ON position.
To activate the immobilizer system
Change the engine start/stop button
to the OFF position. The immobilizer
system activates automatically.
Without a valid smart key for your
vehicle, the engine will not start.
WARNING
In order to prevent theft of your
vehicle, do not leave spare keys
anywhere in your vehicle. Your
immobilizer password is a cus-
tomer unique password and
should be kept confidential. Do
not leave this number anywhere
in your vehicle.
CAUTION
• Keep the smart key away from water or any liquid. If the key-less entry system is inopera-tive due to exposure to wateror liquids, it will not be cov- ered by your manufacturer’svehicle warranty.
Keep the smart key away from electromagnetic materials thatblocks electromagnetic waves to the key surface.

When starting the engine, do not use
the key with other immobilizer keys
around. Otherwise the engine may
not start or may stop soon after it
starts. Keep each key separate in
order to avoid a starting malfun-

your keys, we recommend that you
consult an authorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
The transponder in your ignition key is an important part of the immobilizer system. It isdesigned to give years of trou-ble-free service, however you should avoid exposure to mois-ture, static electricity and roughhandling. Immobilizer systemmalfunction could occur.
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust the immobilizer system because itcould cause the immobilizer sys-tem to malfunction. We recom- mend that the system be serv-iced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Malfunctions caused by improp-er alterations, adjustments ormodifications to the immobilizer system are not covered by yourvehicle manufacturer warranty.
CAUTION
Do not put metal accessoriesnear the ignition switch.
The engine may not start for themetal accessories may interruptthe transponder signal from normally transmitting.

Engine off door unlock system
All doors will automatically unlock
when the engine start/stop button is
turned to the ACC or OFF position.
Shift lever door lock/unlock sys-tem
All doors will automatically lock when the shift lever is moved out of
P (Park).
All doors will automatically unlock when the shift lever is moved into P
(Park).
You can activate or deactivate the
auto door lock/unlock features in the
vehicle. Refer to "LCD display" in thissection. Child-protector rear door lock
The child safety lock is provided to
help prevent children from accidental-ly opening the rear doors from inside
the vehicle. The rear door safety locks
should be used whenever children
are in the vehicle.
1. Open the rear door.
2. Push the child safety lock (1) to
the lock ( ) position. When the
child safety lock is in the lock posi-tion, the rear door will not open
even though the inner door handleis pulled. 3. Close the rear door.
To open the rear door, pull the out-
side door handle.
Even though the doors may be
unlocked, the rear door will not open
by pulling the inner door handle (2)
until the rear door child safety lock is
unlocked.
WARNING
- Rear door
locks
If children accidentally open the
rear doors while the vehicle is
in motion, they could fall out
and be severely injured or
killed. To prevent children from
opening the rear doors from the
inside, the rear door safety
locks should be used whenever
children are in the vehicle.

Closing the trunk
To close the power trunk, do one of
the following:
Press the close button of the power
trunk main switch until the power
trunk is closed securely (Type A).
The chime will sound twice.
Press the power trunk main switch until the power trunk is closed
securely (Type B). The chime will
sound twice.
Press the power trunk close button.
Press the power trunk lock button when all doors and engine hood
are closed with the smart key in
your possession. After closing, all
doors and trunk lock automatically.
✽✽ NOTICE
The chime sound will operate if you
press the power trunk lock button
when:
- Any door is open.
- The engine start/stop button is not in the OFF position.
- The smart key is in the vehicle.
Power trunk non-opening condi-
tions
The power trunk will not open or
close automatically, when the vehicle
is moving more than 3 km/h (2 mph).
✽✽ NOTICE
If there are obstacles such as snow
on the power trunk, it may not open
automatically. After remove the
obstacle, try to open it again. ✽

NOTICE
 The power trunk can be operated when the engine is not running.
However the power trunk opera-
tion consumes large amounts of
vehicle electric power. To prevent
the battery from being discharged,
do not operate it excessively e.g.:
more than approximately 10 times
repeatedly.
 To prevent the battery from being discharged, do not leave the power
trunk in the open position for a
long lime.
 Do not apply excessive force while operating the power trunk. This
could cause damage to the power
trunk.
 Do not modify or repair any part of the power trunk by yourself. We
recommend that the system be
serviced by an authorized Kia
dealer.
 When jacking up the vehicle to change a tire or repair the vehicle,
do not operate the power trunk.
This could cause the power trunk
to operate improperly.
CAUTION
The chime will sound 10 times if
you drive over 3km/h(2mph)with the trunk opened. Stop your vehicle immediately at asafe place and check if yourtrunk is opened.
