WARNING LIGHTSY51D-V-E01-E4342973-71E9-450C-94D9-9EA3FA5505E2
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) warning
light (if so equipped)
Y51D-V-E01-753690F1-01C5-46AF-A68E-329F2E1AAB37Thewarning light comes on when the
ignition switch is pushed to ON. It turns off
soon after the engine is started.
If the Intelligent AWD system malfunctions,
or the diameter of the front and the rear
wheels are different, the warning light will
either remain illuminated or blink. (See
“Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD)” (P.5-
93).)
CAUTION
. If the warning light comes on while
driving there may be a malfunction in
the Intelligent AWD system. Reduce the
vehicle speed and have your vehicle
checked by an INFINITI retailer as soon
as possible.
. If the AWD warning light blinks on when
you are driving:
—blinks rapidly (about twice a sec-
ond):
Pull off the road in a safe area, and
idle the engine. The driving mode will change to 2WD to prevent the AWD
system from malfunctioning. If the
warning light turns off, you can drive
again.
—blinks slowly (about once every 2
seconds):
Pull off the road in a safe area, and
idle the engine. Check that all tire
sizes are the same, tire pressure is
correct and tires are not worn.
. If the warning light is still on after the
above operations, have your vehicle
checked by an INFINITI retailer as soon
as possible.
orAnti-lock Braking
System (ABS) warning light
Y51D-V-E01-BEE15A76-E254-45AA-8D27-5170CF592A69When the ignition switch is in the ON
position, the Anti-lock Braking System
(ABS) warning light illuminates and then
turns off. This indicates the ABS is opera-
tional.
If the ABS warning light illuminates while
the engine is running, or while driving, it
may indicate the ABS is not functioning
properly. Have the system checked by an
INFINITI retailer. If an ABS malfunction occurs, the anti-lock
function is turned off. The brake system
then operates normally, but without anti-
lock assistance. (See
“Brake system”(P.5-
98).)
Automatic transmission check
warning light
Y51D-V-E01-079F889E-A850-497A-9531-8C17CCCB810EWhen the ignition switch is pushed to the
ON position, the light comes on for 2
seconds. If the light comes on at any other
time, it may indicate the transmission is
not functioning properly. Have your INFINITI
retailer check and repair the transmission.
orBrake warning lightY51D-V-E01-27E62D81-74AA-402A-ADDC-A48DD1FF9DA9This light functions for both the parking
brake and the foot brake systems.
Parking brake indicator:
GUID-CA441E56-2FD0-4540-A74C-DB510E9F7AE0When the ignition switch is in the ON
position, the light comes on when the
parking brake is applied.
Low brake fluid warning light:
GUID-CA441E56-2FD0-4540-A74C-DB510E9F7AE0When the ignition switch is in the ON
position, the light warns of a low brake
fluid level. If the light comes on while the
engine is running with the parking brake
not applied, stop the vehicle and perform
the following:
Instruments and controls2-11
Condition:
Black plate (407,1)
[ Edit: 2013/ 10/ 21 Model: Y51-D ]
The hill start assist system automatically
keeps the brakes applied to help prevent
the vehicle from rolling backwards in the
time it takes the driver to release the brake
pedal and apply the accelerator when the
vehicle is stopped on a hill.
The hill start assist system will operate
automatically under the following condi-
tions:
.The transmission is shifted to a forward
or reverse gear.
. The vehicle is stopped completely on a
hill by applying the brake.
The maximum holding time is 2 seconds.
After 2 seconds the vehicle will begin to
roll back and the hill start assist system
will stop operating completely.
The hill start assist system will not operate
when the transmission is shifted to the N
(Neutral) or P (Park) position or on a flat
and level road.
Y51D-V-E01-001CE61A-44FC-4E4D-95F7-8EE61107147D
FREEING A FROZEN DOOR LOCKY51D-V-E01-5EBECC5D-B5CD-4CE7-A4D7-6E52DD8EBEECTo prevent a door lock from freezing, apply
deicer through the key hole. If the lock
becomes frozen, heat the key before
inserting it into the key hole or use the
Intelligent Key system.
ANTIFREEZEY51D-V-E01-7CABC06B-2D45-45D5-A042-B13E6F03CC5EIn the winter when it is anticipated that the
outside temperature will drop below 328F
(08C), check antifreeze to assure proper
winter protection. For additional informa-
tion, see “Engine cooling system” (P.8-12).
BATTERYY51D-V-E01-48005E45-813C-44A5-8D41-9521223F2001If the battery is not fully charged during
extremely cold weather conditions, the
battery fluid may freeze and damage the
battery. To maintain maximum efficiency,
the battery should be checked regularly.
For additional information, see “Battery”
(P.8-20).
DRAINING OF COOLANT WATERY51D-V-E01-A0F702CC-5DF7-4D12-BDDC-B53438BDF4C1If the vehicle is to be left outside without
antifreeze, drain the cooling system, in-
cluding the engine block. Refill before
operating the vehicle. For details, see
“Engine cooling system” (P.8-12).
TIRE EQUIPMENTY51D-V-E01-B6FA169D-58DD-435F-9AD5-F0E503886684SUMMER tires have a tread designed to
provide superior performance on dry pave-
ment. However, the performance of these
tires will be substantially reduced in snowy
and icy conditions. If you operate your
vehicle on snowy or icy roads, INFINITI
recommends the use of MUD & SNOW or
ALL SEASON tires on all four wheels.
Consult an INFINITI retailer for the tire
type, size, speed rating and availability
information.
For additional traction on icy roads,
studded tires may be used. However, some
U.S. states and Canadian provinces prohi-
bit their use. Check local, state and
provincial laws before installing studded
tires.
Skid and traction capabilities of studded
snow tires, on wet or dry surfaces, may be
poorer than that of non-studded snow
tires.
Tire chains may be used. For details, see
“Tire chains”(P.8-43).
For all-wheel driveY51D-V-E01-52FA104E-DAD0-44AC-B200-A57E40801427If you install snow tires, they must also be
the same size, brand, construction and
tread pattern on all four wheels.

Underbody:The underbody is frequently
exposed to corrosive substances such as
those used on icy roads or to control dust.
It is very important to remove these
substances, otherwise rust will form on
the floor pan, frame, fuel lines and around
the exhaust system. At the end of winter,
the underbody should be thoroughly
flushed with plain water, being careful to
clean those areas where mud and dirt may
accumulate. For additional information,
see “Cleaning exterior” (P.7-2).
Windshield washer fluid*: Check that there
is adequate fluid in the reservoir.
Y51D-V-E01-239C92D7-82C6-4E8E-B4CA-4F36484B9DCBWhen performing any inspection or main-
tenance work on your vehicle, always take
care to prevent serious accidental injury to
yourself or damage to the vehicle. The
following are general precautions which
should be closely observed.
WARNING
. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply
the parking brake securely and block the
wheels to prevent the vehicle from
moving. Move the shift lever to P (Park).
. Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF
or LOCK position when performing any
parts replacement or repairs.
. Never connect or disconnect the battery
or any transistorized component while
the ignition switch is in the ON position.
. Never leave the engine or automatic
transmission related component har-
nesses disconnected while the ignition
switch is in the ON position.
. If you must work with the engine
running, keep your hands, clothing, hair
and tools away from moving fans, belts
and any other moving parts. .
It is advisable to secure or remove any
loose clothing and remove any jewelry,
such as rings, watches, etc. before
working on your vehicle.
. Always wear eye protection whenever
you work on your vehicle.
. If you must run the engine in an
enclosed space such as a garage, be
sure there is proper ventilation for
exhaust gases to escape.
. Never get under the vehicle while it is
supported only by a jack. If it is
necessary to work under the vehicle,
support it with safety stands.
. Keep smoking materials, flame and
sparks away from fuel tank and the
battery.
. Your vehicle is equipped with an auto-
matic engine cooling fan. It may come on
at any time without warning, even if the
ignition key is in the OFF position and
the engine is not running. To avoid
injury, always disconnect the negative
battery cable before working near the
fan.
. The fuel filter or fuel lines should be
serviced by an INFINITI retailer because
the fuel lines are under high pressure
