WINDSHIELD WIPERS
Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers.
Note:Make sure you switch off thewindshield wipers before entering a carwash.
Note:Clean the windshield and wiperblades if they begin to leave streaks orsmears. If that does not resolve the issue,install new wiper blades.
Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washers before wiping a drywindshield.

Note:Wet or winter driving conditions withice, snow or salty road mist can causeinconsistent and unexpected wiping orsmearing.
In these conditions, you can do thefollowing to help keep your windshieldclear:
•Lower the sensitivity of the autowipersto reduce the amount of smearing.
•Switch to normal or high-speed wipe.
•Switch the autowipers off.

The autowipers feature uses a rain sensor.You will find it in the area around theinterior mirror. The rain sensor monitorsthe amount of moisture on the windshieldand automatically turns on the wipers. Itwill adjust the wiper speed by the amountof moisture that the sensor detects on thewindshield. You can turn this feature onand off in the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 87).
Use the rotary control to adjust thesensitivity of the rain sensor. Set thecontrol to low sensitivity, and the wiperswill turn on when the rain sensor detectsa large amount of moisture on thewindshield. Set the control to highsensitivity, and the wipers will turn on whenthe rain sensor detects a small amount ofmoisture on the windshield.
Keep the outside of the windshield clean.The rain sensor is very sensitive. If the areaaround the mirror is dirty, then the wipersmay operate if dirt, mist or insects hit thewindshield.
WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
To operate the washers and spray thewindshield, pull the lever toward you.
A wipe will occur a few seconds afterwashing to clear any remaining washerfluid. This feature can be switched on oroff in the information display. See GeneralInformation (page 87).

When the headlamp switch is in theAutolamps position, the windshield wiperactivated exterior lamps will turn on within10 seconds when you switch thewindshield wipers on. The exterior lampswill turn off approximately 60 secondsafter you switch the windshield wipers off.
This feature does not turn on the exteriorlamps:
•during a mist wipe
•while the wipers are on to clear washerfluid during a wash condition
•if the wipers are in automatic orintermittent modes.
Note:If you have autolamps andautowipers switched on the low beamheadlamps will turn on automatically whenthe windshield wipers operate continuously.
Note:You may have to manually switchthe headlamps on in severe weatherconditions.
Note:If you have autolamps switched onyou can only switch the high beamheadlamps on once the system has turnedthe headlamps on.

Power Distribution Box
WARNINGS
Always disconnect the battery beforeservicing high-current fuses.
To reduce risk of electrical shock,always replace the cover to thepower distribution box beforereconnecting the battery or refilling fluidreservoirs.
The power distribution box is located inthe engine compartment. It hashigh-current fuses that protect yourvehicle's main electrical systems fromoverloads.
If the battery has been disconnected andreconnected, some features will need tobe reset. See Changing the 12V Battery(page 245).

•Cover the battery, power distributionbox, and air filter assembly to preventwater damage when cleaning theengine.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS AND
WIPER BLADES
Car wash chemicals and environmentalfallout can result in windshield and wiperblade contamination. Dirty windshield andwipers will result in poor windshield wiperoperation. Keep the windshield and wiperblades clean to maintain windshield wiperperformance.
To clean the windshield and wiper blades:
•Clean the windshield with anon-abrasive glass cleaner.
•For windshields contaminated withtree sap, chemicals, wax or bugs, cleanthe entire windshield using steel wool(no greater than 0000 grade) in acircular motion and rinse with water.
•Clean the wiper blades with isopropylrubbing alcohol or windshield washerfluid.
Note: Do not use razor blades or othersharp objects to clean or remove decalsfrom the inside of the heated rear window.The vehicle warranty does not coverdamage caused to the heated rear windowgrid lines.
CLEANING THE INTERIOR
WARNINGS
Do not use cleaning solvents, bleachor dye on the vehicle’s safety belts,as these actions may weaken thebelt webbing.
WARNINGS
On vehicles equipped withseat-mounted airbags, do not usechemical solvents or strongdetergents. Such products couldcontaminate the side airbag system andaffect performance of the side airbag in acollision.
For fabric, carpets, cloth seats, safety beltsand seats equipped with side airbags:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Remove light stains and soil withMotorcraft Professional StrengthCarpet & Upholstery Cleaner.
•If grease or tar is present on thematerial, spot-clean the area first withMotorcraft Spot and Stain Remover. InCanada, use Motorcraft Multi-PurposeCleaner.
•If a ring forms on the fabric after spotcleaning, clean the entire areaimmediately (but do not oversaturate)or the ring will set.
•Do not use household cleaningproducts or glass cleaners, which canstain and discolor the fabric and affectthe flame retardant abilities of the seatmaterials.
