AdBlue ®
additive
for Blue HDi Diesel engines
To ensure respect for the environment, without altering per formance or penalising the fuel consumption of its Diesel engine, CITROËN has taken the
decision to equip its vehicles with an effective system for the treatment of exhaust gases, by associating the particle emissions filter (PEF) and the
treatment of nitrous oxides (NOx) through the use of the AdBlue
® additive.
In this way CITROËN meets the EURO 6 regulations which impose a sharp reduction of these gases on Diesel engines.
Presentation of the
SCR system
Your vehicle is equipped with SCR (Selective
Catalytic Reduction) technology in order to
conver t the pollutant gases (nitrous oxides,
referred to as NOx) into water vapour and
nitrogen, which is harmless to health.
The AdBlue
®
is held in an separate and
specific tank (located externally under
the boot floor) with a capacity of about
17 litres.
During the ser vicing of your vehicle in the dealer
network or by a qualified workshop, the AdBlue
®
additive tank is completely refilled in order to
allow the correct operation of the SCR system.
At around 12 500 miles (20 000 km), a top-up the
AdBlue
® is needed.

If the AdBlue ®
additive is spilt outside
of the tank, wash the spillage using
cold water to avoid crystallisation of the
product and damage to surrounding
materials.
If the AdBlue
®
additive has already
formed crystals, wipe them of with a
sponge and hot water.
As soon as the "UREA" warning lamp comes on,
you must fill or top up the additive tank as soon
as possible.
For filling of the AdBlue
®
tank, it is recommended
that you contact a franchised dealer or a
qualified workshop.
This refilling operation forms part of the routine
ser vicing of your vehicle (refer to the ser vicing
booklet).
If the AdBlue
®
additive is completely used up
("starting prevented" or "No start on 0 km"
message), you will not be able to restart the
vehicle.
To allow starting, you can top-up yourself,
adding at least 3.8 litres of the AdBlue
® additive
(equivalent to around 3 000 miles (5 000 km) of
range for the AdBlue
® additive) before making an
appointment with a dealer as soon as possible to
have the AdBlue
® tank filled. If you have to top-up yourself, ensure that the
vehicle is on a flat and level sur face (not over a
kerb or on a slope, ...) so as to ensure correct
filling.
Do not fill the tank when the ambient temperature
is below -10°C.

3Practical information
AdBlue ® additive and SCR system
for Blue HDi Diesel engines
To assure respect for the environment and conformity with the new Euro 6 emissions standard, without adversely affecting the per formance or fuel consumption of Diesel
engines, CITROËN has taken the decision to equip its vehicles with an effective system that associates SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) with a particle emissions filter (PEF) for the treatment of exhaust gases.
Presentation of the SCR system
Using an additive called AdBlue ® containing urea, ® containing urea, ®
a catalytic converter turns up to 85% of nitrous oxides (NOx) into nitrogen and water, which are harmless to health and the environment.
The AdBlue ® additive is held in a special ® additive is held in a special ®
tank located under the boot at the rear of the vehicle. It has a capacity of 17 litres: this provides a driving range of about 12 500 miles
(20 000 km), after which an alert is triggered warning you when the reserve remaining is enough for just 1 500 miles (2 400 km).
During each scheduled service of your vehicle by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop, the AdBlue ® additive tank is refilled in order to ® additive tank is refilled in order to ®
allow normal operation of the SCR system.
If the estimated mileage between two services is greater than 12 500 miles (20 000 km), we recommend that you go to a dealer to have the necessary top-up carried out.
Once the AdBlue ® tank is empty, ® tank is empty, ®
a system required by regulations prevents starting of the engine.
If the SCR is faulty, the level of emissions from your vehicle will longer meet the Euro 6 standard: you vehicle becomes polluting. In the event of a confirmed fault with the SCR system, you must go to a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop as soon as possible: after a running distance of 650 miles (1 100 km), a system will be triggered automatically to prevent engine starting.
9Practical information
Never store bottles of AdBlue ® in your ® in your ®
vehicle.
Before topping-up, ensure that the vehicle is parked on a flat and level sur face. In wintry conditions, ensure that the temperature of the vehicle is above -11°C. Otherwise, by freezing, the AdBlue ® cannot ® cannot ®
be poured into its tank. Park your vehicle in a warmer area for a few hours to allow the top-up to be carried out.
Procedure
Press the START/STOP button to switch off the engine. Raise the boot floor for access to the AdBlue ® tank. Use an object, such as a ® tank. Use an object, such as a ®
bag, to keep the left part up.
Recommendations on storage
AdBlue ® freezes at about -11°C and ® freezes at about -11°C and ®
deteriorates above 25°C. It is recommended that bottles be stored in a cool area and protected from direct sunlight. Under these conditions, the additive can be kept for at least a year. Additive that has been frozen can be used once it has thawed out.
11Practical information
After emptying the bottle, wipe away any
spillage around the tank filler using a damp cloth.
Refit the blue cap to the tank and turn it a 6 th of a turn clockwise, to its stop. Refit the black plastic blanking plug, clipping it in place. Lower the boot floor and close the tailgate.
Important: if your vehicle's AdBlue ®
tank is completely empty - which is confirmed by the alert messages and the impossibility of starting the engine - you must add at least 3.8 litres, so two 1.89 litre bottles. If any additive is split or splashed, wash immediately with cold water or wipe with a damp cloth. If the additive has crystallised, clean it off using a sponge and hot water.
Important: when topping up after running out of additive , signalled by the message "Top up emissions additive: Starting prevented", you must wait for approximately 5 minutes before switching on the ignition, without opening the driver's door, unlocking the vehicle, placing the key of the "Keyless Entr y and Star ting" system inside the vehicle or inser ting the electronic key in the reader. Switch on the ignition, wait for 10 seconds, then start the engine.
Never dispose of AdBlue ® additive ® additive ®
bottles in the household waste. Place them in a special container provided this purpose or take them to your dealer.
