For safety reasons, the cruise control system
must not be used in city traffic, stop-and-go
traffic, on roads with a Lot of bends or in dif­
ficult or slippery driving conditions (such as
ice, fog, Loose grit or gravel, heavy rain, etc.)
- risk of accident!
- When you take a turn-off, drive along a mo-
torway exit Lane or pass through roadwork
sections, please temporarily switch off the
cruise control system.
- Make sure you do not unintentionally rest
your foot on the accelerator -this will over­
ride the cruise control system which, as a re­
sult, will not brake the vehicle.
- The automatic braking function may be de­
activated if a system fault occurs in the
brake system (e.g. if the brakes overheat)
while the cruise control system is activated.
All the other cruise control functions remain
activated as Long as the indicator Lamp ii is
Lit.
CD CAUTION
Before driving down a Long, steep gradient, it
is advisable to reduce speed and move these­
lector Lever to a Lower gear. In this way you
will make use of the engine braking effect and
relieve the Load on the brakes.
w) Note
- Vehicles with manual gearbox: The set
speed cannot be reached if the currently se­
lected gear is too high or too Low or if the
engine would overrev or fail to run smoothly
at the target speed. Make sure to change up
or down a gear in good time.
- The brake Lights come on when the system
brakes the vehicle.
Adjusting the speed
Applies to vehicles: with cruise control system
• To increase or reduce the cruising speed in
steps of 1 km/h, briefly push the Lever one Lev­
el upwards or downwards towards 010
¢ page 80, Fig. 85.
• To increase or reduce the cruising speed in
steps of 10 km/h, briefly push the Lever two Driver assist
systems

• To increase or reduce the speed gradually, hold
the Lever towards GY0 until you reach the de­
sired cruising speed.
Overruling the set speed
You can use the accelerator pedal to increase
speed in the normal way, for example to overtake
another vehicle. Once you release the accelerator,
the system will revert to the speed you stored ini­
tially.
However, if the vehicle exceeds the programmed
speed significantly for a Long time, the cruise
control system will be deactivated temporarily.
The indicator Lamp ii in the instrument cluster
will go out, but the programmed speed will re­
main stored.
Pre-selecting a speed
Applies to vehicles: with cruise control system
You can pre-select a desired speed while the ve­
hicle is stationary.
• Switch on the ignition.
• Pull the Lever to position (D ¢ page 80, Fig. 85.
• Press the Lever up towards 0 or down towards
0 in order to increase or reduce the cruising
speed setting.
This function allows you to enter the desired
cruise control setting speed ahead of time, for
example before joining a motorway. Once you are
on the motor way, you can activate the cruise con­
trol system by pulling the Lever to position (D.

The speed setting will remain stored after the
system is temporarily deactivated. To resume the
programmed cruising speed, release the clutch or
brake pedal and pull the lever to position (!).
The stored speed will be deleted once the igni­
tion is switched off.
_& WARNING
Do not resume the programmed cruising
speed if this is too high for the traffic condi­
tions -this can cause accidents.

© -When the accelerator pedal is pressed to the
kick-down position, the function is deactivated
and the speed limiter is switched off. The letters
� @flash as soon as the set speed is exceeded.
_& WARNING
Always switch the speed limiter off after use
to prevent it from being activated uninten­
tionally.
- Even when using the speed limiter, the driv­
er maintains full responsibility for control­
ling the vehicle's speed.
- Using the speed limiter in adverse weather
is dangerous and can result in a serious acci­
dent if you encounter heavy rain, snow, ice,
wet leaves etc. You should only use the
speed limiter if the road conditions and
weather allow you to do so safely.
- Only accelerate quickly or use the kick-down
feature when the visibility and weather con­
ditions are suitable, and when the road and
traffic conditions allow you do do so safely.
CD CAUTION
Before driving down a long, steep gradient, it

Electro-mechanical
power steering
Electro-mechanical power steering assists the
driver when steering.
The degree of power assistance is adapted elec­
tronically, depending on the speed.
If the power steering should fail at any time or
the engine is switched off (for instance when be­
ing towed), the car can still be steered. However,
substantially more effort than normal will be re­
quired to turn the steering wheel.
Warning/indicator lamps and driver
messages
• Steering: fault. Please stop vehicle
If the warning lamp lights up permanently and
the message appears, there may be a power
steering failure.
Do NOT drive on. Obtain professional assistance.
• Steering: fault. Please stop vehicle
There is a malfunction in the electronic steering
lock. The ignition can no longer be switched on.
Do not have the vehicle towed away, because you
won't be able to steer it. Obtain professional as­
sistance.

If the indicator lamp lights up, the steering re­
sponse may be heavier or lighter than usual. In
addition, it is possible that the steering wheel
will be off centre when driving in a straight line.
Drive slowly to a qualified workshop and have the

Brakes
New brake pads
New brake pads do not give full braking effect for
the first 400 km, they must first be "bedded in".
However, you can compensate for the slightly re­
duced braking effect by applying more pressure
on the brake pedal. Avoid placing a heavy load on
the brakes during the running-in period.
Wear The rate of wear on the brake pads depends a
great deal on how you drive and the conditions in
which the vehicle is operated. Negative factors
are, for instance, city traffic, frequent short trips
or hard driving with abrupt starts and stops.
Noises Brake noise may develop in certain situations, de­
pending on the speed, braking force and ambient
conditions (such as temperature and relative hu­
midity).
Effect of moisture and salt
In certain conditions, such as in heavy rain, or af­
ter washing the car or driving through water, the
full braking effect can be delayed by moisture (or
in winter by ice) on the discs and brake pads. The
brakes should be "dried" by pressing the pedal to
restore full braking effect.
When you are driving at higher speeds with the
windscreen wipers on, the brake pads are very
briefly brought into contact with the brake discs.
This automatic process which goes unnoticed by
the driver is carried out at regular intervals and is
intended to improve braking response in wet con-
ditions. ..,..

.. Adjust the longitudinal position of the steering
wheel so that your arms are slightly bent and
you can read the dials and instruments easily.
.. Make sure that you can comfortably reach the
top of the steering wheel.
.. Fasten
your seat belt correctly ¢ page 204 .
.. Keep both feet in the footwell so that you are in
full control of the vehicle at all times.

A WARNING
A driver who is not sitting in the correct posi­
tion or who is not wearing a seat belt can be
fatally injured if the airbag is triggered.
- Adjust the driver's seat and steering wheel
so there is a distance of at least 25 cm be­
tween your breastbone and the centre of the
steering wheel¢ Fig. 172.
- While driving, always hold the steering
wheel with both hands on the outside of the
rim at about the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tion. This reduces the risk of injury if the
driver's airbag inflates.
- Never hold the steering wheel at the 12
o'clock position, or with your hands inside
the rim or on the steering wheel hub. This
could result in serious injuries to the arms,
hands and head if the driver's airbag in­
flates.
- To reduce any risk of injury to the driver dur­
ing a sudden brake application or in an acci­
dent, never drive with the backrest tilted
too far back. The airbag system and seat
belts can only provide proper protection
when the backrest is in an upright position
and the driver is wearing the seat belt in the
correct position. The further the backrest is
tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due
to incorrect positioning of the belt webbing
or an incorrect sitting position.
194 Correct
position for the front passenger
The front seat passenger must sit at least 25 cm
away from the dash panel so that the airbag has
enough room to inflate and give maximum pro­
tection in an accident.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
adjusting the front passenger's seat as follows:
.. Adjust the backrest to an upright position so
that your back remains in contact with the up­
holstery .
.. Keep both feet in the footwell in front of the
seat.
.. Fasten your seat belt correctly ¢ page 206.
In exceptional cases you can disable the front
passenger's airbag via the key-operated switch*
¢page 211.
For detailed information on how to adjust the
front passenger's seat, see ¢ page 46, Seats and
storage.
A WARNING
A passenger who is not sitting in the correct
position or who is not wearing a seat belt can
be fatally injured if the airbag is triggered.
- Adjust the front passenger's seat so there is
a distance of at least 25 cm between your
breastbone and the dash panel.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when the
vehicle is moving; never rest them on the in­
strument panel, out of the window or on the
seat. If you sit in an incorrect position, you
increase your risk of injury in the event of
sudden braking or an accident. If the airbag
is triggered, you could sustain potentially
fatal injuries by sitting out of position.
- To reduce the risk of injury to the front pas­
senger in the case of sudden braking or an
accident, the passenger should never travel
in a moving vehicle with the backrest re­
clined. The airbag system and seat belt can
only provide proper protection when the
backrest is in an upright position and the
passenger is wearing the seat belt in the
correct position. The further the backrest is

Releasing the tank flap manually
The tank flap can be released manually if the
tank unlocking system should fail to operate.

Em ission control
systems
Catalytic converter
Applies to vehicles with petrol engine: The vehi­
cle must only be used with unleaded petrol; oth­
erwise the catalytic converter will be irreparably
damaged.
Never allow the fuel tank to run completely dry,
as the irregular supply of fuel can cause misfir­
ing. This allows unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust
system, which can cause overheating and dam­
age to the catalytic converter.
Diesel particulate filter
Applies to vehicles with diesel engine: The die­
sel particulate filter can filter out almost all soot
particles contained in the exhaust gas. In normal
driving conditions the filter is self-cleaning.
Should the self-cleaning function of the filter not
be able to operate, e.g. when the vehicle is con­
tinuously used only for short trips, the filter be-

obstructed with soot and the symbol Cl
for the diesel particulate filter lights up
¢page 15.
A WARNING
The exhaust system is very hot when the vehi­
cle is being driven and after the engine has
been switched off.
- Never touch the tailpipes when they are hot
- risk of burns!
- Because of the high temperatures which can
occur in the emission control system (cata­
lytic converter or diesel particulate filter),
do not park the vehicle where the exhaust
can come into contact with flammable ma­
terials under the car (e.g. on grass or at the
forest edge) -risk of fire!
- Do not apply any undersea[ agents in the
area around the exhaust system -risk of
fire!
Engine compartment
Working on components in the engine
compartment
Extra caution is necessary when working on com­
ponents in the engine compartment.
Always be aware of the danger of injury and
scalding as well as the risk of accident or fire
when working in the engine compartment (e.g.
when checking and refilling fluids). Always ob­
serve the warnings listed below and follow all
normal safety precautions. The engine compart­
ment of any motor vehicle is a potentially haz­
ardous area ¢ .,&.
A WARNING
- Switch off the engine.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Pu t the gear lever in neutral or selector in P.
- Wait for the engine to cool down.
- Keep children away from engine compart-
ment.

Checking brake fluid level
The brake fluid Level must be between the MIN
and MAX marks on the reservoir ¢ page 222,
Fig. 211.
If the Level goes down noticeably in a short time,
or drops below the MIN mark, there may be a
Leak in the brake system. Obtain professional as­
sistance. The brake fluid Level is also monitored
via a warning Lamp on the infotainment display
¢page 11.
In right-hand drive vehicles the brake fluid reser­
voir is on the other side of the engine compart­
ment.
Changing brake fluid
Your vehicle's Service Schedule will tell you the
regular intervals at which the brake fluid is due
for renewal. We recommend that you have the
brake fluid changed by a qualified workshop dur­
ing a service.
A WARNING
- Brake fluid is poisonous; it must be stored in
the sealed original container in a safe place
out of the reach of children.
- Heavy use of the brakes may cause a vapour
Lock if the brake fluid is left in the system
for too Long. This would seriously affect the
efficiency of the brakes and the safety of the
car -risk of accident!

CAUTION
Brake fluid must not be allowed to come into
contact with the vehicle's body, otherwise it
will attack the paintwork.
Battery General notes
ALL work on batteries requires specialist knowl­
edge.
The battery is virtually maintenance-free. It is
checked as part of the Inspection Service.
When an airbag is triggered, the battery will, un­
der certain circumstances, be disconnected from
the on-board power supply for safety reasons
¢ .&.. in General notes on airbag system on
page 209.
Disconnecting the battery
The battery should always be Left connected. If
the battery is disconnected, some of the vehicle's
functions will become inoperative (e.g. electric
windows). These functions will require resetting
after the battery is reconnected. For this reason,
the battery should only be disconnected from the
vehicle's electrical system when absolutely nec­
essary.
If the vehi cle is not used for long periods
If you do not drive your vehicle for a period of
several days or weeks, the power management
will gradually shut off the on-board systems one
by one, or reduce the amount of current they are
using. This Limits the amount of power consumed
and helps to ensure reliable starting even after a
Long period ¢ page 106. Certain convenience fea­
tures, such as interior Lighting or electric seat ad­
justment, may not be available. These functions
will be restored when you switch on the ignition
and start the engine. Even though some systems
are deactivated automatically, certain electrical
equipment continues to draw current even when
the ignition is off. If the vehicle is Left standing
for several months, this can result in total bat-
tery discharge. If the battery is allowed to dis­
charge completely, an internal chemical reaction

of accident!
- To avoid cutting yourself on sharp metal
parts, always wear suitable protection when
cleaning the underside of the car or inside
the wheel arches.
- After the car has been washed, the full brak­
ing effect can be delayed by moisture (or in
winter by ice) on the discs and brake pads -
risk of accident! The brakes should be dried
by pressing the pedal to restore full braking
effect.
CD CAUTION
- Before washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash, please make sure to retract the
exterior mirrors and, if necessary, retract
the automatic rear spoiler* to prevent dam­
age. Always use the electrical power control
to fold the mirrors in/out on vehicles with
electrically retractable exterior mirrors*.

you have a flat tyre, you should park the car on
a level surface. Be particularly careful if you are

The luggage compartment is specifically de­
signed to hold only the warning triangle supplied
as an Audi Genuine Accessory. Mobility

The first-aid kit is located in a compartment next
to the right side rear seat.
Fire extinguisher
Applies to vehicles: with fire extinguisher
The factory-fitted fire extinguisher is located in
the footwell on the front passenger's side (se­
cured in a holder).
... Remove the fire extinguisher by pressing on the
tab marked "PRESS".
... To secure the fire extinguisher, put it in the
holder and fasten the securing belt.
Check how the fire extinguisher works before you
need to use it. The instructions for use are shown
on the fire extinguisher.
A WARNING
If the fire extinguisher is not secured properly
it could be catapulted through the vehicle
during driving and braking manoeuvres or in
the event of an accident. This poses a risk of
injur y to occupants.
� Note
The fire extinguisher must comply with legal
requirements. Observe the expiry date of the
fire extinguisher.
