.&_ WARNING
-
- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not . Keep in mind
that road surfaces, especially bridges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature above
41 °F (+5 °().
- Always remember, even if the "snow­
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the display, black ice could be on
the road.
- Always reduce your speed and drive with
special care in cold weather conditions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
@ Tips
- At temperatures below 14 °F (+ 5 °C) a
snowflake symbol appears ahead of the
temperature display. It is intended to re­
mind the driver to pay special attention
to
ice on the road ¢ ,&. . If the vehicle is
stationary, or if you are driving at a very
low speed, the temperature shown in the
display might be slightly higher than the
actual outside temperature . This is
caused by the heat being radiated from
the engine .
- You can select the units used for temper­
ature, speed and other measurements in
the MMI.
- For information on the audio/video and
navigation* functions, refer to the sepa­
rate MMI owner's manual.
Operation
The driver information system is operated us­
ing the buttons on the multifunction steering
wheel.

A visual and audio signal will follow.
The settings in the MMI determine if the rear lid can be opened using the handle ¢
page 35.
Opening will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the button
l"" I on the remote con-
trol master key, or
- You press the button
l"" I in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the button
l.:::s ! in the driver's door,
or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons ~now, the
rear lid will either open or close, depending on
its angle .
Closing will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the button
l"" I in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the button
l""I on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons ~now, the
rear lid will either close or open, depending on

You can manually stop the automatic open­ ing/closing of the rear lid. The automatic clos­
ing process begins if you push down on the
rear lid.
A WARNING
-After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving .
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed while driv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the lug­
gage area, because then the rear lid can­
not be fully closed.

- Never leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecially with the rear lid left open. A
child could crawl into the car through the luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out . To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your vehicle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the vehicle doors closed when not
in use.
- Never close the rear lid inattentively or
without checking first. Although the
closing force of the rear lid is limited,
you can still seriously injure yourself or
others .
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges and the up­
per and lower edges - fingers or hands
can be pinched .
- Never try to interfere with the rear lid or
help it when it is being opened or closed
automatically .
(D Note
The rear lid can bump into objects such as
the garage ceiling when opening and be­
come damaged.
(D Tips
-Audio signals are given when you close
the rear lid using the
l a! button in the
driver's door.
- If there is a mechanical problem with au­
tomatic closing for the rear lid or there is
an obstruction, it opens again immedi­
ately . Check to see why the rear lid could
not be closed before attempting to close
it again .
- The following applies to vehicles equip­
ped with the Convenience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug­
gage compartment, luggage compart­
ment will automatically unlock itself af­
ter you lock the vehicle. This prevents
you from unintentionally locking your
key in the luggage compartment. .,.

right rear door, press the left/right button

a two-position function :
Opening the windows

tion.

.,&_ WARNING
-When you leave your vehicle - even if on­
ly briefly - always take the ignit ion key
with you. This applies particularly when children remain in the vehicle. Otherwise
the children could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equipment (e.g. power
windows). The power windows are func­
tional until the driver's door or passeng­
er's doo r has been opened.
- Be careful when closing the w indows.
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serio us injury could result!
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency .
{D Tips
-When you open the doors, the windows
automatically lower abo ut 10 mm.
- When the window in the driver's or pas­
senger's door is complete ly open, it will
raise approximately 25 mm when the
door is opened. The window will lower
again when you close the door.
- After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can sti ll be opened or
closed for about 10 minutes. The power
windows are not switched off until the
dr iver's door or passenger's door has
been opened .
What to do after a malfunction
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery has been discon­
nected.

Installing the head restraints
.. Slide the posts on the head restraint down
into the guides until you feel the posts lock
into place .

should not be able to pull the head restraint
out of the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be pushed down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied.
A WARNING
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat. Install the head restra int again im­
mediately once the child seat is removed.
Driving without head restraints or with
head restraints that are not properly ad­
justed increases the risk of serious or fa­
tal neck injury dramat ica lly.

Seat memory
Description
Applies to veh icles: w it h memory f unction
The memory function allows you to quickly
and easily store and recall personal seating profiles for the driver and front passenger*.
T he memory function is operated through the
master key and the memory buttons in the
driver's/front passenger's* doors.
The driver's seating profile is stored and as­
s ig ned to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. The seating profile is recalled auto­
matically when the vehicle is unlocked. If two
people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own"
master key .
Two seating profiles can be stored in each of
the driver's/front passenger's* doors. Once
stored, these seat ing profiles can be recalled
at any time.

The memory buttons are located in the driv­
er's/fro nt passenger's* door .

A WARNING
- F or safety reasons, the seat setting
should only be recalled when the veh icle
is stationary -otherwise you risk having
an accident.
- If necessary, you stop the process by
pressing the
I OFF ! button or any of the
memory buttons.
Adjusting the front passenger seat in
the MMI

The driver can adjust the position of the front
passenger seat.

system on/off
T he IOFF ! button sw itches the cli mate con trol
s ystem on or off.

o utside is blocked when the climate co ntro l
system is switched off .
IACI Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is n ot coo led and hu midity is not re­
moved when coo ling mode is swi tched off .
T his can ca use fog on the windows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically w hen t he
outside temperat ure is be low ze ro.

l The windshield and side windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possib le. The maximum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents be low the windshield.
Recirculation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture should be set to 72 °F (22 °C) or higher.
The
IAU TOI button switches the defroster off.
l(lii) REAR I Switching rear window heater
on/off
The rear window heater on ly operates when
the engine is running.
It switches off auto­
matica lly after a few minutes, depending on
the outside temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
lil button for more than 2 seconds. This
remains stored unti l the ignition is switched
off.
[ii Adjusting seat heating
Pressing the button switches the seat heating
on at the highest setting ( leve l 3). The LEDs
indicate the temperature level. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again. To
switch the seat heating off, press the button
repeatedly unt il the LED turns off .
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from leve l 3 to level 2.
The seat heating for both outer rear seats* is
adjusted using the buttons in the center con­
sole.

Air vents
You can open or close the center and outer
vents in the cockpit and the vents in the rear
center console using the ridged thumbwheels.
The levers adjust the direction of the airflow
from the vents.
The air temperature in the rear can be adjust­
ed so that it is warmer or co lder by turning
the knob to the red or blue area.
A WARNING
- Do not use the recirc ulation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle. If the windows fog up, press the air
recirc ulat ion button aga in immed iately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion or select defrost.
- I ndividuals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pa in or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function. To
red uce the risk of injury, these individu­
als sho uld not use seat heating.
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.
