adaptive light*
When switched on, adaptive ligh t adap ts to
curves in the road depend ing on the vehicle
speed and the steering angle. This provides
better lighting through the curve. The system
operates at speeds between approximately
6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static corner ing light * (vehicles with adaptive
light) -the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn signal is activated. The
area to the s ide of the vehicle is illuminated
better whe n turn ing .
The adaptive light and the cornering light only
function when the switch is in the AUTO posi­
tion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING
-Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to ass ist
the driver . T hey do no t re lieve the driver
of his responsibility to chec k the head ­
lights and to t urn them on manua lly ac­
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For example, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So a lways
switch on the headlights
~D under these
weather conditions and when driving in
the dark .
- Cras hes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when yo u cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the head lights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the b ack.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lig hting sys tems described here.

The rear fog lights* should on ly be turned
on in accordance with t raff ic regulation, as
the lights are bright for following traffic. ..,.

@ Tips
- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted
c> page 44.
- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any articles of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang any clothing w ith hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle .
- To reduce the r isk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Read and fo llow all WARN INGS
¢ page 156, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision .
- T he coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks as this can in­
terfere with proper deployment of the
side curtain airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudde n stop.
- Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while driving to
reduce the risk of injury in the event of
sudden braking maneuvers or a col lision.

Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
aga inst the rear w indow cou ld damage the
heating wires for t he rear w indow defog­
ger.

-A vent slot is located between the shelf
and the rear w indow . Do not block the
vent with any items you may place on the
rear window she lf.
- Do not place bu lky items on the rear win­
dow shelf as they could restrict or block
the driver's vision in the rear view m irror.
Roof rack
Description and mounting location s
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof
luggage rack.

.,. Always read and follow the instructions pro­
vided by the roof rack manufacturer when
installing the roof rack system.
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the fo llowing:
- On ly use roof racks approved for your vehi­
cle. These approved roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system . Additiona l
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment. We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi original accessories program .
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it
is only mounted on the designated locations
on the roof ¢
fig. 63 .
-We recommend that you keep the installa­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together w ith your Owner's literature i n the
veh icle.

-
- The ski sack is intended only for the
transportation of skis and other light ob ­
jects . To reduce the risk of serious per­
sonal injury, never transport heavy or
pointed objects in the ski sack.
- When brak ing rapidly or during an acci­
dent, the load could be displaced and
ca use injury to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protect ion. Always fasten the belt
t ightly around the sack and its contents
¢ fig. 70.
-For safety reasons, do not transport
more than two pairs of skis in the ski
sack .
- You must sec ure the ski sac k with the
st rap after loading.
- Make su re that all objects you are t rans­
porting in the pass-through are secured.
Otherwise they cou ld slide around during
sudden braking maneuvers and cause in­
jur ies.
(D Tips
- Never stow the sk i sack away when it is
still wet or damp (for examp le, snow
melting from skis). Allow it to dry com­
plete ly before stowing it away.
- When transporting skis or snowboards, tighten the securing strap between the bindings.
- Position skis in the ski sack wit h the
pointed ends facing the front and ski
po les with the pointed ends facing the
rear.
- You can lock or un lock the pass-through
u sing the mechanical key. This prevents
any access to the luggage compartment
from the vehicle interior .
Parcel shelf
The parcel shelf behind the rear seatback can
be used to car ry light items of cloth ing .
8_ WARNING
No heavy or hard objects should be p laced
on the parcel shelf. They are a hazard to
the veh icle occupants during s udden brak­
i ng . The is a risk of injury .

Please make sure that the heating w ires
for the rear window defogger are not dam ­
age by abrasive objects .

To ensure problem-free ven tilation , the
vent ilation slots between the rear window
and the pa rcel she lf must not be covered .

We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C) .

Press the buttons to turn the funct ions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution . The
LED in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are disp layed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display .
In vehicles with a 3 -zone deluxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems*, the dr iver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately .
The settings are also displayed in the climate
control sys tem display.
IOFF I Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOFFI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off . It also switches on when you press the knob. Airflow from outside
is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off .
IAC I Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the windows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is below ze ro .
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi­
cle is c irculated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior . We recommend

km/h to 240 km/h). Settings can each be ad­
justed in intervals of

Cruise control
Switching on
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at
20 mph
(30 km/h).

The speed is kept constant by modifying en­
g ine power or through an active brake inter­
vention.
A WARNING
-- Always pay attent ion to the traffic
around you when the cruise control is in
operation. You are always responsible for
your speed and the distance between
your veh icle and other vehicles.
- For reasons of safety, cruise control
should not be used in t he city, in stop­
and-go traffic, on twisting roads and
when road conditions are poor (such as
ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydro­
p laning) -risk of accident .
- Turn off the cruise control temporarily
when entering turn lanes, highway exit
lanes or in constr uction zones .
- Please note that inadve rtently "resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal causes the cruise control not to brake. This is
because the cruise control is overridden
by the driver's acceleration.
- If a brake system malfunction such as
overheating occurs when the cruise con­
trol system is switched on, the braking
function in the system may be sw itched
off. The other cruise control functions re­
main active as long as the indicator light
II (US models)/ ... (Canadian models)
is on.
(D Tips
-Veh icles with manual transmiss ion: You
can attain the set speed only if the gear
th at is cur rently engaged will allow it, or
if it does not tax the engine and allows it
to run smoothly. Therefore shift into a
hig her or lower gear in a timely manner.
- Th e brake lights illuminate as soon as
the brakes apply automatically.
