Power easy entry function
Applies to vehicles: with power ad justable seats
The easy entry function makes it easier for
the rear passengers to enter and leave the ve­
hicle.

and hold the @ button until the seat has
reached the desired position.
When the front seats are moved forward,
their origina l posit ion is stored . When it is
moved back, the seat automatically stops in
this posit ion. To move the seat even further
back, you have to re lease the switch @ and re­
activate it .
Applies to vehicles w ith ad justab le head re­
straints : T he head restraints from the front
seats, dependi ng on the seat he ight that has
been set, are au tomatically retrac ted when
the seatbacks are folded down . They return to
thei r origina l posi tion aga in whe n the seat ­
ba cks f or th e fron t seat s are raised .

Seat symmetry fu ncti on, the pa s­
s enger 's seat c an be m oved to the sa m e po si­
tion as t he d river's seat . The settings for the
drive r's seat a re imported and set automati­
ca lly.

Emptying the a shtray
• To remove the inse rt, slide the latch to the
right

• To insta ll the insert, press it down into the
mount.
A WARNING
Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot
ashes or other hot objects in the ashtray
could set waste paper on fire.
Cigarette Lighter

• Press the cigarette l ighter in .
• Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops
out.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter only works when the
ignition is switched on. Incorrect usage
can lead to serious injuries or burns. For
this reason, children should never be left unattended in the vehicle because this in­
creases the risk of injury.

The cigarette lighter can be damaged if
you connect electrical accessories to it .
Storage
General overview
A WARNING
-Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not put away

could slide around inside the vehicle
while driving or when accelerat ing or
when applying the brakes or when driv­
ing around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter conso le or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake, dep ress the clutch or acce le r­
ate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up m ust not interfere wit h the dr iv­
er's view. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Neve r hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the a irbag is deployed -
these objects could i njure any passen­
ge rs inside the vehicle.

cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any articles of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang any clothing w ith hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle .
- To reduce the r isk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Read and fo llow all WARN INGS
¢ page 156, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision .
- T he coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks as this can in­
terfere with proper deployment of the
side curtain airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudde n stop.
- Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while driving to
reduce the risk of injury in the event of
sudden braking maneuvers or a col lision.

Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
aga inst the rear w indow cou ld damage the
heating wires for t he rear w indow defog­
ger.

-A vent slot is located between the shelf
and the rear w indow . Do not block the
vent with any items you may place on the
rear window she lf.
- Do not place bu lky items on the rear win­
dow shelf as they could restrict or block
the driver's vision in the rear view m irror.
Roof rack
Description and mounting location s
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof
luggage rack.

.,. Always read and follow the instructions pro­
vided by the roof rack manufacturer when
installing the roof rack system.
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the fo llowing:
- On ly use roof racks approved for your vehi­
cle. These approved roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system . Additiona l
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment. We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi original accessories program .
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it
is only mounted on the designated locations
on the roof ¢
fig. 63 .
-We recommend that you keep the installa­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together w ith your Owner's literature i n the
veh icle.

Warm and cold Climate controls
Description
Th e climate control sy stem warms, cools and
adds humidity to the a ir in the veh icle inter io r.
It is the most effect ive when the windows and
sunroof are closed . If the re is a build-up of
h eat inside the vehicle, ventilation can help to
speed up the cooling process .
I n all he ating mode functions except
defrost,
the blower on ly switches to a higher speed
once the engine coolant has reached a certain
temperature.
Condensat ion from the cooling sys tem can
d rip and form a puddle of water under the ve­
h icle. This is normal and does not mean there
is a leak .
Pollutant filter
The po llutant filte r removes po llutants such
as dus t and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filte r must be changed at
the intervals spec ified in you r Wa rra nty
&
M aintenance book let, so tha t the air condi­
tioner can prope rly work .
If you drive your vehicle in an area w ith h igh
a ir po llution, the fi lter may need to be
changed more frequent ly than specified in
your Aud i Warranty
& Ma intenance bookle t. If
in doubt, ask your authorized A udi Service Ad ­
v isor for advice .
Key coded settings
The clima te control sett ings are automat ically
stored and assigned to the remote co ntro l key
that is in use.
WARNING
Reduced vis ibili ty is dangero us and can
cause accidents.

-For safe driving it is very important that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con­
densat ion.
- Comp letely fam iliarize yourse lf with the
proper use and funct ion of the heat ing
and ve nti lation system and especially
how to defog and defrost the w indows.
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer
system in freez ing weather unt il you
have warmed the w indshield first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer sol ution may free ze o n the wind­
shie ld an d red uce visib ility.

- If you suspect that the air conditioner has been damaged, switch the system
off to avoid furt her damage and have it
i n spected by a q ua lified dea lership.
- Repairs to the Audi air condition er re­
quire specia l techni cal know ledge and
speci al tools. Contact an autho rized Aud i

@ For the sake of the environment
B y reduci ng the amou nt of f uel you use,
you also re duce the amount of pollu tan ts
emitted in to the a ir.

- Keep the air intake s lo ts ( in fro nt of the
w indshield) free from ice, snow and de­
br is in order to maintai n the proper f unc ­
tion of the climate control system.
- T he energy m anagement system may
switch the seat heating* or rear window
defroster off temporar ily . These systems
are available again as soon as the energy
balance has been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing
on the luggage compartment cover, en­
sure that the openings are not covered.

km/h to 240 km/h). Settings can each be ad­
justed in intervals of
6 mph (10 km/h).
Cruise control
Switching on
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at
20 mph
(30 km/h).

The speed is kept constant by modifying en­
g ine power or through an active brake inter­
vention.
A WARNING
-- Always pay attent ion to the traffic
around you when the cruise control is in
operation. You are always responsible for
your speed and the distance between
your veh icle and other vehicles.
- For reasons of safety, cruise control
should not be used in t he city, in stop­
and-go traffic, on twisting roads and
when road conditions are poor (such as
ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydro­
p laning) -risk of accident .
- Turn off the cruise control temporarily
when entering turn lanes, highway exit
lanes or in constr uction zones .
- Please note that inadve rtently "resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal causes the cruise control not to brake. This is
because the cruise control is overridden
by the driver's acceleration.
- If a brake system malfunction such as
overheating occurs when the cruise con­
trol system is switched on, the braking
function in the system may be sw itched
off. The other cruise control functions re­
main active as long as the indicator light
II (US models)/ ... (Canadian models)
is on.
(D Tips
-Veh icles with manual transmiss ion: You
can attain the set speed only if the gear
th at is cur rently engaged will allow it, or
if it does not tax the engine and allows it
to run smoothly. Therefore shift into a
hig her or lower gear in a timely manner.
- Th e brake lights illuminate as soon as
the brakes apply automatically.

Gearshift lever
Applies to vehicles: with manual transmission
The clutch pedal must be depressed all the
way before you can start the engine.
The manual transmission in your Audi is
equipped with an
interlock-feature .
• Depress the clutch pedal all the way.
• Start the engine with the gearshift lever in
Neutral and the clutch pedal depressed.
(D Note
Always depress the clutch pedal fully when
changing gears. Do not hold the vehicle on
a hill with the clutch pedal partially de­
pressed. This may cause premature clutch
wear or damage .
@ Tips
-Resting your hand on the gearshift lever
knob while driving will cause premature
wear in the transmission.
- The back-up lights go on when you sh ift
in to Reverse with the ignition on.

S tronic, tiptronic
Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with S tronic/tiptronic
T he automatic transmission is controlled elec­
tronically. The transmission upshifts or down­
shifts automatica lly depending on which drive
program is selected.
When a
moderate driving style is used, the
transmission selects the most economical
driving mode. It will then change up early and
delay the downshifts to give better fuel econ­
omy .
T he transmission switches to a sporty mode
after a kick-down or when the driver uses a
sporty driving style characterized by quick ac­
ce lerator pedal movements, heavy accelera­
tion, frequent changes in speed and traveling
at the maximum speed.
If desired, the driver can also select the gears
manually (tiptronic mode) c> page 86.
Various automatic transmissions may be in­
stalled, depending on the model:
S tronic transmission
The S tronic is a dual-clutch transmission.
Power is transferred using two clutches that
work independe ntly from one another. Th ey
replace the torque converter used in conven­
tional automatic transmissions and al low the
vehicle to acce lerate without a noticeable in­
terruption in tract ion.
tiptronic transmission
In the tiptronic transmission, power is trans­
f er red by a torque converter.

especially when the road is slippery.
- Once you have accelerated, yo u should
switch sport mode
off by pressing the
I ~ OFF I button.
@ Tips
- The transmission temperat ure may in ­
crease significantly after using the Launch Control Program. If that hap­
pens, the program may not be available
fo r a few minutes . It will be availab le
again afte r a cool-down period .
- When accelerating using t he Launch
Control program, all vehicle parts are
subject to heavy loads. This can res ult in
i nc reas ed wea r.
Transmission malfunction
Applies to vehicles: with S tronic/tiptronic
DI Transmi ssion : Pr ess brake pedal and se­
le ct gear again .
Press the brake pedal and se lect the des ired
se lecto r lever posit io n aga in. You can then
con tinue dr iv ing .
DI Transmi ssion overheating: Pleas e drive
conservatively .
The transmission temperature has increased
significantly due to the sporty driving ma nner .
Drive in a less sporty manner unt il the tem ­
pe rat ure retu rns to the no rmal range a nd the
i ndicator light sw itches of.
DI Transmiss ion malfunct ion: You can con­
tinue driving
There is a system ma lf u nction in the transmis­
sion. You may continue driving. Drive to your
author ized Audi dealer or qualified repair fa­
cility soon to have the malfunction corrected.
DI Transmission malfunction: Limited driv­
ing funct ionality
There is a system ma lf u nction in the transmis ­
sion. The transmission is switching to emer­
gency mode. Th is mode only shifts into cer­
tain gears or will no longer shift at a ll. The en- gine may sta
ll. Drive to your a uthorized Audi
dealer or qualified repair facility immediately
to have the mal function cor rected .
[O] lit Transmis sion malfunction : No reverse
You can continue driving
S t roni c tra nsmission: The re is a system mal­
f unc tion in the transm ission. The t ransmis ­
s io n is swi tching to emerge ncy mode. This
mode only shifts into ce rtain gea rs or will no
l o nger shift at a ll. The engine may stall. You
cannot engage the reverse gear . Dr ive to your
autho riz ed Aud i dea ler or qualified repa ir fa­
c ili ty immediately to have the malfunction
cor rected .
DI Transmission malfunction: Stop vehicle
and shift to park.
Do not continue dr iving. Se lect the P selector
lever positio n and see your authorized A udi
dealer or qualif ied repai r facility for assis ­
tance.

Introduction
App lies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise co ntrol
The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regulating vehicle speed and helping
to maintain a set distance to the vehicle
ahead, within the limits of the system .
If the
system detects a moving vehicle up ahead,
adaptive cruise control can brake and then ac ­
celerate your vehicle. This he lps to make driv­
ing more comfortable on long highway
stretches.
The braking guard system can warn you about
an impending collision and initiate braking
maneuvers

Adaptive cruise control and braking guard
have technical limitations that you must
know, so please read this section carefully, un­
derstand how the system works and use them
properly at all times.

The area that contains the radar senso r

other objects or obstructed with dirt, insects,
snow or ice that w ill interfere with the adap­
tive cruise control system and braking guard.

he function of the adaptive cruise contro l
system and braking guard is limited under
some condit ions:
- Objects can only be de tected when they are
within sensor range

-The system has a limited ability to detect
objects that are a short distance ahead, off
to the side of your vehicle or moving into
your lane.
- Some kinds of vehicles are hard to detect; for examp le motorcycles, vehicles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may
be detected when it is too late or they may
not be detected at a ll.

A WARNING
-
Always pay attention to traffic when adap-
tive cruise contro l is switched on and brak­
i ng guard is active. As the driver, you are
still respons ible for starting and for main­
tain ing speed and distance to other ob­
jects. Braking guard is used to assist you.
The dr iver must always take action to avoid
a col lision. The driver is always responsibl e
for braking at the correct time.
- Im proper use of adaptive cruise con trol
can cause collisions, other accidents and
serio us personal injury.
- Never let the comfort and convenience
that adaptive cruise control and braking
guard offer distract you from the need to
be alert to traffic conditions and the
need to remain in full control of your ve­
h icle at all times,
- Always remember that the adaptive
cru ise contro l and brak ing guard have
limits -they will not slow the vehicle
down or maintain the set distance when
you drive towards an obstacle or some ­
thing on or near the road that is not
mov ing, such as vehicles stopped in a
traffic jam, a stalled or disabled vehicle.
