adaptive light*
When switched on, adaptive ligh t adap ts to
curves in the road depend ing on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le. This provides
better lighting through the curve. The system
operates at speeds between approximately 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Sta tic corner ing light * (vehicles with adaptive
light) -the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/ h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn signal is activated. The
area to the s ide of the vehicle is illuminated
better whe n turn ing .
The adaptive light and the cornering light only
function when the switch is in the AUTO posi­
tion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING
-Daytime running lights and automatic
headlights* are only intended to ass ist
the driver . T hey do no t re lieve the driver
of his responsibility to chec k the head ­
lights and to t urn them on manua lly ac­
cording to the current light and visibility
conditions. For examp le, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors*. So a lways
switch on the headlights

weather conditions and when driving in
the dark .
- Cras hes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the head lights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please obey all laws when using the
lig hting sys tems described here.

- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted

- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and setting the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C) .

Press the buttons to turn the funct ions on or
off. Use the d ials to adjust the temperature,
the blower speed and the a ir distribution . The
LED in a button will light up when the func­
tion is switched on. The settings are disp layed
for a few seconds in the radio or MMI* display.
In vehicles with a 3 -zone deluxe automat ic cl i­
mate control systems*, the dr iver and front
passenger side can be adjusted separately .
The settings are also displayed in the climate
control sys tem display.
IOFF I Switching the climate control
system on/off
The IOFFI button switches the climate control
sys tem on or off . It also switches on when you press the knob. Airflow from outside
is
blocked when the climate control system is
switched off .
IAC I Switching cooling mode on/off
The air is not coo led and humidity is not re­
moved when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the windows. Cooling
mode switches off automatically when the
outside temperature is below ze ro .
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In recircu lation mode, the air inside the vehi­
cle is c irculated and filtered. This prevents the
unfiltered air outside the vehicle from enter­
ing the vehicle interior . We recommend

The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph
(30 km/h).

The speed is kept constant by modifying en­ gine power or through an active brake inter­
vention.
A WARNING
- Always pay attention to the traffic around you when the cruise control is in
operation . You are always responsib le for
your speed and the distance between
your vehicle and other vehicles.

-For reasons of safety, cruise control
should not be used in the city, in stop­
and-go traffic, on twisting roads and
when road conditions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydro­
plan ing) - risk of accident .
- Turn off the cruise control temporarily when enter ing turn lanes, highway exit
lanes or in construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertently ''resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is
because the cruise control is overridden
by the driver's acceleration.
- If a brake system malfunction such as
overheating occurs when the cruise con­
trol system is switched on, the braking
function in the system may be switched off . The other cruise contro l functions re­
main active as long as the indicator light
Ill (US models) !l'I (Canadian models)
is on.

The brake lights illuminate as soon as the
brakes app ly automatically .
Changing speed
.,. To increase/decrease the speed in incre­
ments, tap the lever in the
0 10 direction

010 direction until the de­
sired speed is displayed .
You can also press the accelerator pedal down
to increase your speed, e.g. if you want to pass someone. The speed you saved earlier
will resume as soon as you let off of the acce l­
erator pedal.
If, however , you exceed yo ur saved speed by
6 mph (10 km/h) for longer than S minutes,
the cru ise control will be turned off tempora­
rily. The green symbol in the display turns
white. The saved speed remains the same.

-Never use abrasive cleaning materials
or alcohol to clean the camera lens.

- Never use gasoline, stain remover, ben-
zene, paint thinner or other solvents to

only in one direction and not back and
forth .
- Never remove snow or ice from win­
dows and mirrors using warm or hot
water because this cou ld cause cracks
to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear window
defogger, do not apply any stickers on
the heating wires on the inside of the
w indow.

- Never use chrome care or cleaning
products.

- To reduce the risk of sc ratches, the ve-
hicle must be free of dirt and dust be ­
fore polishing or waxing.
- To prevent paint damage, do not polish
or wax the vehicle in direct sunlight .
- To reduce the risk of paint damage, do
not polish away rust film.
- Di spla ys
- To avoid scratches, do not use dry
cleaning methods on displays.
- Cont rols
- Make sure that no flu ids enter the con-
trols, because this cou ld cause dam­
age.
- Safe ty belt s
-Do not remove the safety belts to clean
them .
- Never clean safety belts or their com­
ponents chemically or with corrosive
fluids or solvents and never allow sharp objects to come into contact

with the safety belts . This could cause
damage to the belt webbing.
- If there is damage to the webbing, the
connections, the retractors or the buck­
les , have them replaced by an author­
ized Audi dealer or qualified workshop.

- Never treat V inyl/Alcantara w ith leath-
er care products , solvents, floor polish,
shoe polish, stain remover or s imilar
p roducts.
- To avoid damage, have stubborn stains
removed by an autho rized Audi dea le r

- Neve r use steam cleaners, brushes,
hard sponges, etc. when cleaning.
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry
the seat.
- Objects w ith sharp edges such as zip­
pers, rivets on clothing or be lts can
cause damage to the surface.
- Open hook and loop fastene rs, for ex­
ample on cloth ing, can damage seat
covers. Make sure hook and loop fas­
teners are closed .
-Natural leath er
- Never treat leather with solvents, floor
polish, shoe polish, stain remover or
similar products.
- Objects with sharp edges such as zip­
pers, rivets on clothing or be lts can
cause damage to the surface.
- Never use steam cleaners, brushes,
hard sponges, etc. when cleaning.
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry
the seat.
- To help prevent the leather from fad­
ing, do not leave the vehicle in d irect
sunlight for long periods of time . If
leaving the vehicle parked for long pe­
riods of time, you should cover the
leather to protect it from d irect sun­
light .

Battery
General information
Under normal operating conditions, the bat­
tery in your Audi does not need any mainte ­
nance. With
high outside temperatures or
long daily dr ives we recommend that you have
the electro lyte level checked by an authorized
Aud i dealer or qualified workshop . The elec­
trolyte leve l should also be checked each time
the battery is charged ¢
page 219.
Have the battery checked when you take your
ve hicle in for service . Yo u are well adv ised to
replace a battery that is older than 5 yea rs .

Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle functions (power w indow regu­
lators , for example) are lost if the battery ter­
m inals a re d isconnected. These func tions have
to be re lea rned after the batte ry term inals a re
connected agai n. T o prevent this , the bat tery
should only be d isconnec ted from the vehicle
e lec tric al system when absolu tely necessa ry
for repairs .
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If you do not drive you r vehicle over a period
of severa l days or weeks, elec trical compo­
nen ts are gr adually cut b ack o r swi tched off .
This redu ces energy cons umption and main­
tains starting capab ility over a longer per io d

turn o n the ign ition and start the engine.
Winter operation
D ur ing the w inte r mon ths, bat tery capa city
tends to dec rease as tempera tures drop . This
is beca use more power is a lso consumed wh ile
starting, and the headlights, rear window de­
fogge r, etc., are used more often.
Avoid unnecessary powe r consumpt ion, pa r­
ticular ly in city traffic or when traveling only
sho rt distances. Let yo ur autho rized A udi
dealer check the capacity of the vehicle bat ­
tery before w inter sets in

charged battery will no t on ly prevent star tin g
problems w hen the weather is cold, but w ill
also last longer .
@ Tips
If your vehicle is left standing for seve ral
weeks at extremely low temperatures, the
vehicle battery s hou ld be removed and
stored where it will not freeze . This will
p revent it from be ing damaged and having
to be repla ced .
Working on the battery
Be especially careful when working on or near
the bat tery.
The battery is located in the luggage compar t­
ment under the floor . B efo re you che ck any­
thi ng in the luggage compartment,
read and
heed all WARNINGS
